Generally I'm glad it was a huge new game with plot and side missions. As from the first Assassin in those years it surpassed more in mass content and gameplay. This story is also shocking in many ways.
The game is already 30 hours but passed only by a quarter and impressions positive huge.

Absolutely amazing AC game. There's absolutely no grind like in Odyssey, if you actually want to play this game. If you want to play it as sony story simulator, then this game is not for you. Highly recommended to people who actually enjoy playing video games!

Seems like certain type of haters are trying to manipulate people with their pathetic lies that this game has more bugs than Cyberpunk 2077. What a joke. I feel like some people still live in past or something. But for example Cyberpunk was not only half delivered and misses tons of promised content, but it's so broken and buggy, has 2001 NPC's and driving and they still haven't fixed it. So my bottom lines is that anyone who tries to tell that Valhalla is extremely buggy/unplayable and in worse state than Cyberpunk 2077, is simply pathetic hater who is spreading lies and nothing else. The game is not filled with copy&paste quests that require you to travel to the other side of the map. Side quests actually vary and are more creative. Combat is more engaging than in Odyssey. Parkour finally requires a bit of thought. Basically this game is what Odyssey failed to be and Origins tried to be. Stealth mechanics returned and some new ones have been added like sliding on ground that you can perform to quickly escape and hide again. Ubisoft has put effort into story cutscenes and more is happening on screen. This is almost pefect AC. Only missing big cities to perform smooth parkour :) Expand

Probably the best of the "modern" AC games.

    Story & Writing:
The story, both in and out of the Animus makes sense again, with clear motives for all the characters involved. The writing is interesting, consice, and manages to create intrigue throughout the playtime without ever beoming absurd, like it did with Odyssey. That being said, some of the plot twists were... less than surprising. The dialogues felt natural, and the voice acting, especially that of male Eyvor was on point. Most importantly however, for the first time since AC Black Flag, Valhalla managed to make me feel connected to the characters in the game. Eyvor, as well as those around him, felt like real people, with real desires, fears, and ideologies.
The somewhat unorthodox structure of the story, being essentially split into small, unrelated chapters, that eventually tie up to the main plot, may be a turn-off for some, but for me, it helped keep the story on-point and unbloated.
Finally, it needs to be mentioned that Assassins and Templars are a thing again. Both organizations have finally reached their recognizable forms in the Animus timeline, thus helping Valhalla feel like an actual Assassin's Creed game.

    Gameplay:
The most striking thing about the gameplay in Valhalla, is that it's no longer a looter game. Instead of being drowned in loot with only incremental differences in stats, the loot is now way more rare, and therefore way more valuable.
Actual stealth has made a return, enabling you to feel like an Assassin again, with sneaking on rooftops, blending into crowds, and strategically avoiding guards being a big part of the gameplay.
Combat has been toned down to a degree, doing away with some of the trademarks of the "modern era AC" combat, like elemental effects on weapons and armor. While it may seem like a negative to some, as far as I'm concerned, it helped keep the game grounded and more realistic.
Sidequests have been essentially replaced by "mysteries", short (about 10 min long) quests that don't even get marked in the quest log. This was a huge improvement, as one of AC's major problems were the overly long and yet overly similar sidequests that 99% of the time amounted to "go there and kill X number of bad guys". This shorter format allows for more experimentation, and it doesn't feel like it's ever pulling you away from the main plot.

    Graphics:
Easily the best looking AC game so far. While some assets have indeed been re-used from Odyssey, it's not to an overwhelming degree.

    Performance:
Maintained above 60 FPS for most of the game, with very few noticable drops, however there were plenty of crashes. Valhalla actually crashed more times for me than Cyberpunk 2077 did, and that really says something.

    Overall:
I may be a bit biased since I'm a Vikings nerd, and medieval England is a setting that I've always adored, but Valhalla is an absolute gem in my eyes. A solid return to form gameplay-wise, while maintaining the good parts of Origins and Odyssey, combined with a great story, and even better presentation.

AC is completely different game series and way deeper and more meaningful than any souls games has ever been. If you don't like it, go play something else. Nobody is forcing anyone to play AC games. There can be and should be different kind of games, that have different combat style. That's normal and always has been normal. Assassin's Creed actually got good starting with Black Flag, everything before it had this nonsense Desmond modern day stuff and awful mission structure. Black Flag and Unity made stuff way better. Valhalla is decent, but lacks lots of stuff that made Unity and Black Flag great. Ironically some people think that Mirage will be like AC1, while it will clearly be more like Unity. I guess nostalgic people have forgotten how outdated combat and parkour was in these earlier games. Unity was huge leap forward in terms of graphics, parkour and combat and that's the game Mirage takes inspiration from. Sure it has similar outfits, like in AC1, but there will be obviously countless of different outfits and outfit colors just like in Unity. Negatives : You can't craft arrows, no giant squids (at least i haven't found any).

Progress was one of the things that kept me with this series, Black Flag had huge world to explore in 2013, Paris looked absolutely stunning in 2014, Syndicate wasn't perfect, but London was still really nice location, Origins was even bigger game and obvious next step, while Valhalla perfected flaws of Origins and Odyssey. I really hope these leaks are not true, but if they are, i refuse to buy or support this next game. If they really go back to AC1-AC3 style then i'm done with this series and as of right now that seems to be the case. I'm almost certain that these awful leaks are true and they really do that. It' sad, but nothing lasts forever i guess. All i have to say that, thank you Ubisoft for these amazing games and this series once meant to me A LOT. Expand

Overall: While at first it looked really nice graphically, i'm not extremely happy with this game. Water looks kind of weird at times, idk what it is, but some weird graphics effect. Another complaint would be that ocean feels really empty, there's hardly anything in the ocean, compared to Odyssey that had sunken temples and whales, sharks, sunken shipwrecks. Maybe i just haven't looked enough, but so far it seems that there's nothing to explore in the ocean in Valhalla and that's a shame. I was hoping for giant squids and stuff, because it's the correct region where they actually live in real life, but i guess Ubisoft didn't want to take that risk, because "giant squid too scary, whore cares that it actually exists". But negatives out of the way, it's still really solid Assassin's creed game. Not better than Black Flag, but overall it can be fun. I was just expecting little bit more. Hopefully next game will be this huge leap, but Valhalla is still okay. But it fixes so many things that Odyssey lacked, like solid story, more interesting map, not grindy anymore. There's room for improvement, like adding more legacy outfits, adding something to ocean?? Please Ubisoft?? Unless it was always meant to have empty ocean, but it's just weird idk. But like i said it's still way better than Odyssey, even with it's flaws.
Ranking: My 4th favorite Ac game.

Valhalla is different, you have all the classic AC elements back and while parkour leaves much to be desired, it's still better than Odyssey's non-existing parkour. Graphics are really good, obviously best on PC, but solid on consoles as well. I would advise ignoring very low reviews, because they clearly don't understand what makes this game fun and i would have almost missed this game thanks to negative reviews. By the way, just for you knowledge, it's mostly youtube comments section hate, in reality this game has millions of fans all over the world and sold more than Ubisoft ever imagined. To see that, go under any new AC Valhalla video comment section and you see bunch of people whining and complaining how "bad Valhalla is", it's usually 200-300 comments, so in other words, meaningless number, while video itself has thousands of views and thousand of likes. So it's very clear that most people actually like this game. Expand

Is it as good as Unity or Black Flag? Nope. But it's still more Assassin's Creed game than Odyssey was. At least it has this actual AC feel. Graphics are nice, story is fine (nothing special sadly), combat is fun. I think best parts of this game are actually still coming - Ireland and Paris DLC's look extremely promising, but even without these, it's very solid game!

Interesting game. Cities feel full of life and danger. Large landscapes give you feeling of absolute freedom. Combat is more brutal than ever. Some missions are fun, some are boring, but it's like that with every game ever. Overall impressions are very positive, can't wait for DLC's.

Until Resident Evil Village comes out, it's literally only 2020 game that is still worth playing. Doom

Until Resident Evil Village comes out, it's literally only 2020 game that is still worth playing. Doom Eternal got old very fast and i'm not gonna play Tony Hawk 1+2 Remake 24/7. Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the biggest fails of all time. Resident Evil 3 Remake was too short and boring. Last of Us 2 is one of the worst games ever made. Watch Dogs Legion is pathetic. Final Fantasy VII Remake has no reason to play again, even tho good game. Ghost of Tsushima has one of the worst camera angles in any video game ever, so i just can't play it, but it doesn't seem very interesting anyway. Marvel's Avengers is a joke. Mafia 1 Remake had good story, but has one of the emptiest open-worlds ever, there's absolutely nothing to do or explore.

So what's left? Literally only one game - Assassin's Creed Valhalla! It's not best game ever / not best AC game, but at least it's fun enough and DLC's almost look more interesting than main game, so i'm hyped. There's obviously always option to play older games (i do that literally all the time), but this review is for people who want something new.

There's so many people from past who would have given anything to play these kinds of locations in video game, but they never could, because these types of games didn't exist before year 2007 and that was just the beginning. They would have loved to climb realistic Notre Dame in 1790s Paris (AC Unity) or Pyramids in Egypt (AC Origins). Modern people finally can do that and that's big deal, very big deal. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a great-looking open-world game with impressive landscapes and cinematography. However, the checklist collectible open-world still needs some work to feel truly engaging, and combat is too tedious and too frequent to be compelling. As a lapsed fan of Assassin's Creed trying to see if I can click with the series once again, Valhalla didn't quite hook me as I was hoping it would.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a lot of fun and easy to sink dozens of hours into. It is the best entry in the more recent trilogy and genuinely elevates the gameplay mechanics. Content could be considered somewhat bloated still, but it is diverse enough and the setting and story is solid most of the way through.

Sneaking is fun, fighting is fun, walking through the great outdoors is so much fun. Sightseeing too! Valhalla is free minded and could be innovative, but lacks skills to persuade its players about that. [Issue#308]
