Absolutely stunning graphics. If you love ancient Greece, you will love just exploring the wilds and cities displayed here. The acting is fine by me, I kinda like the main character's voice. The best part is the combat. I don't miss the old AC style one bit. Archery is amazing, you can freaking control arrows in mid-flight. The weapons feel good. It's just a fun, gorgeous, if slightly underwhelming on the quest side romp through ancient Greece. Definitely don't miss this game.

It appears you may need to lose attachment to previous AC games however, looking at the low ratings. This game does not deserve low ratings and all of them are coming from people looking to disgrace the company by giving low ratings rather than rating the game for what it is. Shameful practice.

This game is kind of a soulless mashup of popular elements from other games, combined with some poorly thought out systems, so I will just give it a real quick review:

Graphics: 7/10 It looks fantastic. However, the world building and level design is very unimaginative, with a lot of copypasting going. What's the point of having all those high quality assets if you don't do anything

It looks fantastic. However, the world building and level design is very unimaginative, with a lot of copypasting going. What's the point of having all those high quality assets if you don't do anything special with them? Also in terms of performance, this seems like a real bad console port.

    Sound: 5/10
Sounds alright. Nothing special though. Also some pieces seem oddly familiar from other well known open world games...

    Story: 1/10
It has a story, alright. But it's beyond stupid to needlessly wrap that story up in another frame story of time traveling historians or whatever, which ultimately is just some pointless filler. The world has tons of empty space, with little incentive for exploring and while the Setting is nice, it has been only superficially implemented. And whatever happened to the Assassin thing? Also lots of historical revisionism.

    Gameplay: 0/10
    Yeah, no.
The combat system is a joke. The RPG system couldn't be any more lackluster. There is no Assassin going on at all. Little point in exploration. Horrible pacing. Constant, pointless Cutscenes. Nothing innovative at all about this game. Cash Shop for a single player game.
Normally I would go more into detail, but this is just too horrible.
    Just make it stop.

    Overall: 3/10
Though what's the point of 3/10 if the most important components, gameplay and story, suck this hard? It might as well be 0/10 and nothing would change about it. Just really makes one wonder why the people working on that became developers at all, if they create soulless empty husks like this. Don't even get me started on the obvious bought reviews...

Gameplay is ok, but it doesn't fit with AC, magic powers and teleporting, i thought ac was trying to be historicaly accurate. The story is a regular one, but it's not an AC, you have 2 or 3 moments that you have to farm COMPULSARY, that ruins completely the pace of the story and the optimization is bad. I don't give it less note because i think it's a fun game after all.

It's definitely not Assassin's Creed. Just ubisoft trying to make an RPG (and failed) and using AC franchise to promote it. The game is just a repetition since the beginning.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game has pretty solid graphics, decent parkour, and at times good boss fights. You can see a lot of initial concepts here that might be solid if they were handled better. However Ubisoft fails to learn from it's RPG inspiration like the Witcher 3, and creates a confusing web of side quests, grinding, and empty boring characters. As per usual in Ubisoft's recent games, shock value takes priority over character development, with characters being killed off seemingly just to anger you, or to make you feel like theres some bigger picture, when in truth the vast majority of what you doesn't matter whatsoever.
This game is no longer assassin's creed (which is disappointing but no a deal breaker), until you realize you won't be having a hidden blade unless you buy DLC. Oh and the illusion of choosing your own relationships? Yeah that goes out the window too, because you're going to have to have a kid despite Layla not needing ancestors dna to make her animus work, JUST SO THEY CAN MAKE KASSANDRA THE ANCESTOR OF AYA.
That's another thing, instead of leaving it as "well the history isn't clear and their DNA is similar so either one of them could've been the eagle bearer", they tell anyone who choose Alexios you're character isn't Canon.
On top of all that you can't turn level scaling off so even enemies like bears will be on tier to stomp your butt into the floor despite any mythical gear you may have or divine power within you.
The final nail in the coffin is the twist that the Eagle bearer is alive the whole time and gives Layla the staff of Hermes. So not only are we going to have to deal with a crappy character, we could've had a much more interesting story playing as Alexios/Kassandra in modern day instead of being stuck in the one note character that is Layla.
If Valhalla doesn't drastically improve on all elements of its story, RPG mechanics, gameplay depth and variety, cutting down on the grindy gameplay, and enhancing the sense of effecting the world and characters around you, then avoid this series for the foreseeable future.

This game isn't the same as the older Assassin's Creed games and it feels different to play it, but I wouldn't say it's a bad thing. If you don't expect the game to be a 1:1 copy of older AC games, you will really enjoy this one. It happened to be one of my most favourite games of all time.

    Pros :

    - It has an amazing story. From start, it really stucks you to game.
    - Parrying sistem is awesome. Origins shield sistem was absolute sh*t.
    - Open world is fantastic. In every island, there is a side-quest chain waits for you.
    - Voice actors did a perfect job. Both characters are awesome.
    - Fort attacking is the most enjoyable thing in the game. You can be a strategist, assassin or warrior.
    - DLCs are perfect. The Fate of Atlantis one is really perfect. Stucks you to game until you finish it.
    - New Game+ is very efficient. I played the game again because of it. And even playing it again, it still feels good.
    - You can change the auto level scaling to light if you want to play only the story. Stop saying that.

    Cons :
    - There is not much "different" quests. Always go and stab some people.
    - You can't decide will you be Athenian or Spartan. I mean, there is sometimes a street war between them, you wanna join the fight but you can attack them both, or they'll attack you. ( Naval fights are more ridiculous )
    - It says " RPG " but in the DLCs, every answer gets you to same ending.
    - Horse riding is not very good, it's sh*t.
    - There's no assassin in this game, only assassin is Darius :D I mean it's called "Assassin's Creed" isn't it?

    Summary :

This game is 60$. It costs 0.5dollar / hour for me. Guys stop being a dickhead, Ubisoft made it
perfect. But yeah some more details to game would be perfect. I reeaaally wanted to wear a spartan helmet and get into a spartan fort. Or a little bit more different quests.

I only played the game this year (2021), and it's easily the most enjoyable one this year so far. There is nothing really revolutionary about it. In fact, it looks like it has been inspired by successful aspects of quite a few other games: it's improving on a massive eye-candy open world of its predecessor (AC Origins), features stealth-clearing forts and camps like in the Far Cry series, cut-scenes and witty dialogs like we've seen in Witcher 3, combat mechanics and animation that resembles of Middle Earth: Shadow of War. Nevertheless, it's a masterpiece in its own right and so much fun to play - which is what counts in the end.

To me it's really mixed bag to be fair and i have almost hard time describing how i feel about it. Graphics? Beautiful, Main characters? Both were decent. Map design? Solid. Best Ocean of any AC game, full of stuff to explore. Now this game has three main problems. Story is kind of weak, you have to grind way too much to progress in story and you can't one-hit assassinate enemies. Now it still has nice enough architecture, huge statues, most of islands of Greece. Ocean is really cool, sunken shipwrecks, sunken temples, sharks, whales etc. So basically get got many things right with this game, but also tons of stuff was just bad or weak. Thankfully most of these things were fixed in Valhalla, but Valhalla is not perfect either. Basically there's still room for Ubisoft to improve. Overall Odyssey is solid, but flawed game. But here's the thing, i'm an Assassin's Creed fan and i need to have one-hit assassinations. Now maybe someone who doesn't care about this, might enjoy this game more. But i still want to give it relatively positive score, because after all it's still part of one of the greatest video game series of all time and it obviously got tons of hate from people who hate AC games in general, so even just for that i have to give it higher score. And i'm one of these players who can literally spend hours underwater exploring ocean. I can't even count how long i spent underwater in GTA 5 for example and with Odyssey they made ocean really interesting. This was huge step-back in Valhalla, because for some weird reason Valhalla ocean is kind of empty. So bonus points for good ocean design in Odyssey. Expand

"We are evil robbers, let's go and kill someone, because we are very evil!" in what universe will real robbers say something like this at a rest stop? This is not a fairy tale for small children. With realism in General, everything is very bad. Absolutely linear plot, sometimes it feels like the player is just being bullied when you choose a dialogue option that the developer does not like, and then it outputs the same result. Absolutely one-sided black-and-white presentation of some worldview dilemmas.

When this game was released and I've played about 15hours I posted review and said that this game is worth buying. I was sooooo dumb, sooooo damn wrong.

This ♥♥♥♥ing game is complete and total disaster. There is NOTHING GOOD about it apart graphics. Boring, empty, dead map, sh*t story, terrible combat system (dodging feels like your character is skiing all the time), horrible voice acting (that accent....oh my god.....it makes me want to rip my ears off, that's how horrible voice acting in this game is) and story line that is worth sh*t.

Bear in mind, that everything I've said above was said in polite version. So, I hope you can understand now how bad, how terrible this "game" is.

And before fanboys-kids incoming - let me mention few simple points, so you could visualize the image of what REAL game you are buying. Few simple things:

Imagine - you're getting new quest and you have to go in some unexplored spot, so you travel around 300-800 meters to that point (by foot or with horse), through empty, dead map (with only few bigger cities), or by sea with ship around 4000-6000 meters, by holding ONLY ONE KEY - "W" (of course sometimes pressing "A" and "D" to avoid obstacles). So when you get to that new points, you go and talk with new NPC (listening that terrible BS voice acting), then going in some other spot, killing few enemies (with terrible skiing-dodging or ultra-unrealistic counter combat system), gather some loot, watch few cutscenes, that's it, quest completed. Of course at some point you can't do anymore quests because your lvl is too low, so you gotta go grind for hours, and hours, and hours, and hours (trust me, I mean that), you will be forced to do boring side missions ("go to point A - kill bandits, pick some loot, return to NPC, missions completed" that kind of BS quest system), to level up and continue with main story.

And you will be doing this over and over again till you get bored. And also remember that 80 percent of the time while playing this game you only will be traveling from point A to point B, by holding only one key like I mentioned before "W".

So tell me, how normal, rationally thinking people can find this "game" fun and entertaining?...

    This is beyond my understanding....

This game is definetely not worth buying, it is worth sh*t. ♥♥♥♥ you ubisoft again for some ♥♥♥♥ed up product you brought for us, proper gamers.

AC is dead forever now, all that's left from it is ubisoft's greed, cash-grabbing, worthless piece of junk, without any immersion.

It's a 6 for me. Big, pretty, open world with very repetitive side stuff that's mandatory so you don't get level gated from the main story. Interesting story with some lame dialogue. I've seen some reviewers stating this game is a rival to The Witcher 3 which just proves they never played it. The excess of microtransactions in a single player game also get the score down for me.

(it's why metacritic users scores are so ignored by people). This is clearly a good game. Goodness... And claiming this in an Origins DLC makes me believe you've played neither. Just wow/LOL

Shallow and boring combat mechanics with no feel in it. Movement and climbing are... how to put it mildly, as if they take place on a land of butter. Our hero/heroine can move, jump with no real effort without moving any muscle. Thinking of the years old AC3 had better mechanics than this game is just unbelievable. if you think old AC games have the same grinding missions going on forever, well try this one for an ultimate bore-fest. just adding tons of empty quests and meaningless exploration areas doesn't make it a good open world game, amd going one step forward and calling this game an AAA title is not fair while there are games like Witcher, GOW,GTA and RDR.

Believe me there are lots of things to say (bad) about this game ... but shortly it is a generic open world game. And if you have played Sleeping Dogs, Shadow of Mordor, Batman Arkham Series and even the Mad Max this game will taste cheesy and you will not find the will to play this game to the end, knowing u have already played better games than this years ago.

The only good thing about this game is our heroine Kasandra, but combat and movement is so cheap and generic she alone couldn't save the game from getting refunded.

PS. I have fully completed all the previous Assassin's Creed titles to this day except the copycat of this game (Origins). As Odyssey and Origins are basically the same games with different skins on them, so no need to buy and play both of them. And yet playing none of them is a better choice.

They need to rethink some of the approaches to game making. Specifically, in the case of this game and other games like this one, I would like to make a couple of points. This game does not quite work for the following reasons: First, there's a bit too much grind, and you cannot escape the ugly feeling of doing too much of the same. Some grind in a game is quite ok, but too much can ruin the game. Second, this is poor implementation of RPG+Open World combination. The game forces you to follow the linear path of the story in an Open World game?!!? How so? Well, if you go astray from the main story line and try to explore the game world away from the main story you cannot, because literally every creature you encounter is too powerful for you. You just end up running away from everyone and everything, in stead of exploring or doing quests. A minute ago, in the main story, I defeated powerful warriors and generals, and the next minute I run from ordinary wolves, boars, and peasants, only because I am in the area I'm not supposed to be in yet, and everyone is couple of levels or more above me. The game doesn't even show you the level of creatures with too high a level. There's only a red skull indicator telling you not to even bother fighting. That's ridiculous, and it defeats the whole Open World concept. RPG could work in the Open World concept, but a few tweaks are necessary. Ordinary creatures and characters everywhere should be less powerful than the game protagonist from the beginning. Only major bosses through the story line should be allowed to be significantly more powerful, and I have to level up or find better gear to be able to defeat them. There could be other tough characters, but I should be able to defeat them right from the beginning, albeit with more difficulty. Next, I don't care how tough an opponent is, three direct hits with a sword or spear should end the fight. If you want to create grind and make certain fights last longer, make blocking or dodging more frequent than hits, depending on the level of opponent of course. I feel silly banging on an opponent for 3 or 4 minutes, with every swipe a direct hit, and my enemy refuses to die because he's level 25, and I am level 22. Next, if you want to make certain areas more difficult than other you can populate it with more enemies, who are more vigilant, and with a few characters who are more powerful than average, but I should still be able to defeat them. Third, make quests more versatile, with variety of interesting tasks. This requires imagination and diligence. Game developers must not be complacent and just keep pumping out the same stuff all the time. They have to get better all the time. Fourth, and this is closely related to the previous point, if you're making a true RPG game that includes dialogues with choices, then you have to make dialogue interesting, engaging, and meaningful. This is a very difficult thing to do, and few RPGs ever have actually succeeded in this. Dialogues are usually tedious, or even dumb, and a waste of time. But games should progress towards true AI. I can't wait for the day when we'll see games writing themselves as you play them, depending on the way you play them, where no one knows what comes next, and how they might end. We're a long way from that, I know, but it could be better than this. Dialogues and choices seem to be of no consequence at all, except for a few key choices, and the level of freedom is actually the same as in the games from 10 or 15 years ago. Expand

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, Ubisoft Quebec's first attempt at an RPG set in the Assassin's Creed Universe. Led by Ubisoft Kiev's studio, the effort of taking AC: Odyssey from the console platforms to then "tailor the experience" for PC users was a disaster.

Ubisoft Quebec and Kiev *fail* to grasp one simple concept: Functionality.

The PC version of AC: Odyssey is barely functional and the reason why, is not shocking; Ubisoft as a corporation have built a reputation for disappointing their customer base. The failure I refer to, is the blatant disregard for intel i5 and i7 CPUs. Taken from a Ubisoft product tester: "The games are tested on systems with 1050tis @30 FPS, very little testing is done at 60 FPS or higher."

This is a massive disappointment. The content of AC:O is, fundamentally, fantastic. The RPG elements can be lazy at times, like the uninspired lack of 'smart loot' (wherein the loot pool will adjust its parameters to meet the class of the player) yet it's addictive and enjoyable. All of this is cut short when CPU usage spikes to ridiculous percentages, seen in the 50-80s, which is absolutely unacceptable, to the astounding 100% cap. This goes beyond unacceptable. This is the hallmark of an incompetent studio doing nothing to improve the performance of their game, instead focusing on adding more content and leaving PC consumers in the dark.

This is a damn shame, as I actively enjoy playing AC:O; until my CPU starts complaining, causing stuttering as soon as it spikes to 100%. We all have begged Ubisoft Quebec and Kiev to fix this fatal error and they've done nothing to address it. Even a simple statement from them saying "Unfortunately, we're too inexperienced to optimize the PC version of AC:O." would give us a heads up, to avoid purchasing their future products. They have not done this, angering the PC customer base and disappointing long-time fans of the franchise.

It is with a heavy heart that I must push future consumers away from such a beautiful mess. For those consumers, I would instead suggest: NioH, The Witcher 1 -3, the Mass Effect trilogy (excluding Andromeda), Dragon Age: Origins, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2, Warframe, Dragon's Dogma, The Division 1 (TD2 is just as garbage as AC:O in terms of CPU rape) and any other looter that isn't developed by Ubisoft.

To Ubisoft Quebec and Kiev, I say this: PC enthusiasts build rigs like ours to play current generation games at 1080p and/or 1440p at 60/240fps. Forcing us to cap our frame rates to 30fps so that we halve the CPU usage is the reason why we have consoles. If you cannot build a game that runs at 60fps at a CPU Usage of 40% (50 maximum), do not sell a "Tailored Experience" to PC consumers. In fact, don't even attempt it unless you meet this basic, bare minimum, requirement.

The pathetic excuse for gamers these days is unbelievable, millennials have no idea what a gaming experience is about, we grew up with 2D side scrollers and they were classed as A rated games and the big things about them were finding the glitches and mistakes from the developers which added more fun to the games.

Games today have huge open worlds to explore and i suppose the big problem with all new gamers is the aspect you may also learn something along the way, you seem to expect the game to feed you in a way that i would like to see you do better, go back to the first AC title then come back to this one to see the massive changes the franchise has made, to hate on a business for doing what they do which is MAKE GAMES is so stupid it boggles the mind you have no idea the man hours that go into making something that is designed for fun.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is easily one of the best games of 2018 without a shadow of a doubt, it has great aspects from Origins and then added more and set in a beautiful recreation of Greece, and if anyone listened during history at school or educated themselves has such a captivating focus on the history of Greece, from the Diplomacy of Athens created by Pericles to the fall of the city due to the plague and tainted grain from Sparta.

The game also lets you explore rather than spoon feed you all the missions (it's how i found the Minotaur by pure fluke) which makes it a fantastic adventure.

The Helix credits... i have bought non and guess what you can still enjoy the game, these things are put there for players who like to add something to their games but not at any point does it feel forced or pushed on you to do, and the grind is not bad at all, if anything its lesser than Witcher 3 in that respect.

Unless you're playing on a potato this game plays flawlessly i play on
    Ryzen 5 1600 (3.8ghz)
    AMD rx470 8gb
    16gb RAM (3000mhz)
    Windows 10 Pro
even running the game on an old HDD
it plays fine on my 4K monitor with no tearing stuttering or fps drops, i think the worst i had was 40fps which is still non noticeable during game play this generation needs to get over that more fps = better as your eye can't see or notice anything higher than 60fps in most cases as the majority of monitors refresh at 60hz which is 60 fps tops a game may tell you you're getting 120+fps but you monitor isn't refreshing at anything higher than it's designed to, even movies play around 27-30fps and nobody **** about that.

I have sunk over 66 hours into this game and i am only 61% complete, my advice for this game is to explore, take in the vast lands and surprise yourself with what you can find, if you bought this game to mash a button in fights and to be told how to play then you bought the wrong game, stop following the bandwagon of being told what to like and what to hate, i bought this game for £35.99 with Ubisoft discount which i earned through gaming which is 20% off... on release, say what you will but nobody rewards you 20% off with a made up currency you earn by enjoying yourself.

The fighting is challenging as you have to think about what you're doing or you will die to simple soldiers with shields or dual wielding swords, it takes a little time but not hard to master, even higher rated mercenaries can be bested.

The map is huge, fast travel is there if you want it, it is filled with bandits wild life and events you can only find by exploring, you can find some awesome items just by exploring.

    Pros:
    Stunning visuals
Well over 70 hours game play
The choice to play either male or female
So much to do it can sometimes feel overwhelming which is GREAT in a RPG

    Cons:
Doesn't seem to like potato PC
The sea doesn't have the same pull as AC Black flag
    Millennials
Sorry having difficulty thinking of cons as it is honestly that good a game.

I would recommed this game only if it is on sale and you can get it for 30 bucks or even less. Expand

The biggest downside to the game is optimization, the game has 99-100% of CPU usage. But if you have a good PC it's no problem. It's a good RPG, I highly recommend.

And just to add. All and I mean all of the 0/10 reviews are trolls or idiots. The game is not perfect but a 0/10 is impossible for this game.

Yes. This is my first review here, so you may disregard it if you wish. I've just created an account here because I'm very surprised of the reviews. Game works perfectly fine on my i5-2500 GTX970 PC. To be honest it's not really an AC game, it's just an rpg in Ancient Greece setting, but it's so cool and immersive (yes!). This is like the first game in AC franchise i want to play since AC 2.

Best Assassin's Creed yet by far. Best RPG i've played since W3. I for one love all the side missions and massive quantity of things to do. It never felt like I was leveling too slow or like there was some ulterior motive to push me into purchasing an XP boost. In fact the levels came so fast there were times I felt like it was going too fast when I was getting behind on keeping my gear upgraded.

Awesome game, it's something different from the rest of the AC, but I'd like to think that I won't play the same game over and over and, in that sense, Odyssey is a step forward. I'm playing on a 7700k-1080ti Set up, so I didn't notice any performance issues, but it's Ubisoft, so you can expect that if you have a mid-end or low-end set up. If that so, just wait for sales.

Yes, there is the occasional CPU freeze time / lag, but that only occurs during the huge battles and being Early Access I was expecting some flaws that will be eventually smoothed out. All that side the game has been very enjoyable for me about of the proverbial box. Length; yes the game is long, but it's called "Odyssey" so I'm fine with it. Regarding it not being an AC game; you aren't playing as an Assassin, but it is set within the AC Lore so as far as the overall lore and canon I feel that this IS an AC game; unlike say my feelings about STD versus STNG and TOS. Bottom line I'm enjoying it and I'd recommend it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm so happy we finally got a new 3rd person, Elder Scrolls game in 2018!... and here I thought I'd have to keep modding Skyrim until 2021's official TES:VI release.

Okay. So it's not really a TES game. I lied. But you gotta admit, I almost had you going there. No? Oh well... let's see.

    - Choose Gender? Check. (I chose Kassandra)
    - Choose Race? Check... albeit limited to Imperial.
    - Start story by getting armor after killing the first enemies? Check.
    - Having to go to a nearby town to actually get your first quest from someone who helped you when you were just a bandit (well... child bandit)? Check.
    - Being attacked randomly by trios of wolves in the wild? Check.
    - Notification (for the first time in an AC game) that you would be STEALING??? CHECK!
    - Being attacked by villager for stealing his stuff? CHECK CHECK CHECK!

Okay, you know, I could keep going, but it's better if I stop there. Actually, TES:VI is rumored to take place in Hammerfell. A region not to different from Ancient Rome/Greece/Norther Africa and Middle East. Looks like AC's got you beat there, Bethesda.

    Now. Onto the good stuff.

This game is an Assassin's Creed game, but it is more Witcher "3.5" than Prince of Persia, and that's what people are upset about. They are upset because, quite frankly, Ubisoft resorted to doing away with the formula completely before even trying to fix what was broken in the final days of the "true AC" (that is: Unity and Syndicate). They are right to be upset, but they are wrong in their assumption that their dislike for the latest formula, which is really an amalgam of other games' formulas, means the game is automatically bad, or as some have ignorantly put it, the "worst AC game ever" (clearly they did not play Unity).

    The game is not great.
    The game is not terrible.
The game sits somewhere between "The world could always use more heroes!" and "Ever get that feeling of deja vu?" (As respectively voiced by Overwatch's Tracer). And it never really leaves that place. If you enjoyed the freer elements of Origins, you will enjoy this one even more. If you enjoyed the more tedious elements of Origins, you will be frustrated by the freedom in this one. Thankfully, Ubi's got your back and they have a mode selection to let you decide whether you want freedom or not. Whether you want to play Skyrim, or AC:Origins.

The fighting mechanics, the visuals, the AI (including Mount pathfinding), the voice acting, the lip-sincing, the music, the bugs, etc etc etc, are in many ways identical to Origins. In fact, so many of these things are so identical, it becomes clear as soon as you leave the first island, that you're basically playing a stand-alone expansion of Origins. This, naturally, has upset many people.

So let me tell you what Odyssey is...

    - It's a fun game
    - It's a spin-off of Origins
    - It's definitely a game where you can assassinate your way through pretty much every NPC, except the important marks (I can see why people are upset at this, but for me, it's a nice break from something that started so long ago, I'm kind of tired of it)
    - It's an amalgam of many other really popular Action RPGs
    - It may or may not be worth the price tag for many. I got it on sale because PC games always have sales pretty much immediately.

... and then let me tell you, finally, what it is not:

    - It is NOT a TES game, so don't be fooled into buying it thinking you'll get that kind of epicness out of it.
    - And it is NOT a bootleg version of Witcher 3 (you won't get that kind of story), despite my significant other walking into the room while I was playing it and immediately asking me "Is that a new area in Witcher?"

You get sucked up into the game, lost in the story and characters. Mechanically this game has a few small bugs, but other wise it's a masterpiece. The music is fantastic, the scenery and setting are beyond a master piece. The fact that you can actually fight your way through things now without instantly failing a mission is fantastic. You got seen by one person? You can kill him before he alerts everyone. The skill choices and the combinations of sets allow for you to truly make your own person. Most of the names used - Markos, Nikolaos, even the protagonist's name Alexios if you can believe it, are Byzantine, Italian even Syrian names and they were certainly not used in the game's time period, but close to a millennium later.

Don't get me started about "malakas" which is just simply annoying that it is used in that time period. And it's used constantly nonetheless.

The timed mini-quests & bounties can be repetitive and are very simple (sometimes I've had quite literally the exact same mini-quest dialogue from different NPCs) but there are plenty of actual side quests which are generally interesting, and so far I've found no issues with leveling...and absolutely no grind has been required in my own experience. For reference, I'm relatively new to the series...played the original AC when it came out, but wasn't keen on the mechanics and gave up a few hours in...Origins was my first real AC game that I experienced in full. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is not an assassin, but a very cool game.
Ubisoft tried and made a great visual of the game. I like every pixel in this game.
We have a good plot, I would not say that it is perfect, but compared to other parts, it is much better.
I think this game is for fans of RPG, but not for fans and fans of the canon.

The added story branching option and the diolog option is a great addition to the Assassin’s Creed Francise since this could make me as player be more involve in the story and the character. Some player might find the giant open world is a not so fitting setting to set an Assassin’s Creed story since it can make the player to be seperated from the story from the sheer ammount of time that the world exploration will take to do. The RPG element is good since it is develop together with AC: Origins. The multiple ending is also a good addition because it make the choice that the player have to be more important than normal story branching element.

Although this game has some improvement from AC: Origins even if it's not as many as i like but it is expected since this game is develop at the same time as AC: Origins so it is expected to have some similarity in gameplay and other elements to each other.

The reason i did not give this game a full 10/10 is because althought the modern day story line is connected to the Assassin's Creed Lore the actual animus part of story element althought interesting it is not connected enough even if the is some connection to the Assassin's Creed Lore as a whole.

Overall the experience of playing this new type of Assassin’s Creed is depend on each player but since i’m a fan of both exploration and Assassin’s Creed francise in general so i can make a good judgment that this game is very good for those who already love the Assassin’s Creed Francise and for those who love exploration and branching story element.

Since this is not a true RPG some RPG player might not like it so much and for those who like linear story line more this game also might not be for you.

Awesome Game! I like the way ubisoft took for Assassin's Creed. Although I am myself not a big Fan of Role Playing Games I have to say that Odyssey is not going too too deep with the Role Playing System what makes it easy accessible for pretty much everyone! Besides there are of course a few downgrades like the Graphics etc. but those things are criticism on such a high level that it isn't worth mentioning. For me I've been playin since Release Day and I am still so thrilled to play this game. The Dialogue Options aren't as big as for example in a Mass Effect, but they still have affection in the Outcome of certain Situations. I don't see why people are treating this game so negatively, Ubisoft tried something new out and I believe it worked wonderfully. The people that are saying "This isn't Assassin's Creed anymore" have literally no Idea of how the Game is designed and I am pretty sure that they didn't even play it. They are just saying that because they want the game to be always the same. Just FYI this won't work out forever. Expand

The latest addition to the Assassin's Creed franchise is truly a wonder and a fresh take on a stale idea. The excellent execution, gameplay and story is only overshadowed by greedy micro transactions, paid XP and awful optimization.

An excellent and beautiful game from ancient Greece. Maybe it’s very different from the first game, however this evolution benefits the brand. [Issue#290]

While AC: Origins was packed with interesting stories, Odyssey is a generic ’Ubisoft sandbox’ in the worst sense, with hundreds of the same-looking places, dozens of ”kill-fetch” quests and almost zero motivation to grind further.
