Perhaps this is greatest compliment I can pay Liberation. This game restored my faith. Ubisoft can still produce a good Assassin's Creed game.

Assassin's Creed III: Liberation HD is an example of been there, done that but not as well as in main Assassin's Creed series. [Feb 2014]

Even a low budget Assassin’s Creed is more enjoyable than most AAA games. There’s not much to do besides the main story and you can deal with Liberation in less than 7 hours, but it will be time well spent. [03/2014, p.56]

    Quotation forthcoming.
  5. Ultimately, Liberation features a fantastic premise with an evocative heroine that sadly doesn’t measure up to any of the games in the main series. If you are an Assassin’s Creed nut who really wants to see the fictional universe from another perspective, give Liberation a whirl. If you are just looking for some more Assassin’s Creed action, the other six games are better than this one.

Liberation's portable formula translates into home format losing part of its original appeal. The skin-tight Vita game fits better Aveline's sexy silhouette than this recycled outlet version. That is also technically out of fashion, after Black Flag.

A slightly above-average game has finally its bad remake. Its graphics is basically the same, and all of the original design's mistakes now catch your eye even more.

Being originally a PSV game, it's better than I expected. Worth an 8. And I've decided to be generous to give a more positive score to the game which gave me some pleasure playing it. Though short and unchallenging, it's not monotonous.

Sure AC series had already become sort of CoD and that's extremely annoying by itself. Making basically the same game or even TWO per yearSure AC series had already become sort of CoD and that's extremely annoying by itself. Making basically the same game or even TWO per year while maintaining all the problems that were present in the very first game doesn't help it. People are simply tired of that.
But I'll try to be impartial. By itself, AC: Liberation is a good game. Easily worth of 8, but I gave it one more because some of the ratings here (0?) doesn't make sense, sorry. It is true successor to the very first (and in my opinion - the best) AC game with Altair. First AC game in a long time I finished at 100%, while done every side quest, opened the whole map and even gather SEVERAL collections.
It has good pace and normal length. AC became very boring with the same mechanics again and again, so keeping clever length is important, otherwise people get demotivated to play and finish even the main plot, not talking about side-quests and all.
And of course we can't get away from comparing this to another title of the series - AC: Black Flag. Personally, I liked AC: Liberation more and I really believe it's a better game. Technically, AC: Black Flag can't even compete. It's a crying shame what Ubi did with optimization and polish. AC: Liberation is a complete opposite of that - runs smoothly while maintaining pretty beautiful graphics. And controls, CONTROLS. AC: Black Flag was simply frustrating. Making character jump from the 1 meter fence was a real challenge. And I didn't have a single issue with AC: Liberation controls. Why there is such a difference is beyond me. Another thing is plot. Both are lacking. But at least AC: Liberation has a main character that is appealing and with strong motivation. Edward just a money whore without ANY reasonable motivation that would make him sympathetic. Gameplay. AC: Black Flag has sea battles and that is ALL the game has. The missions on the islands are all the same and goddamn awful. On the other hand, AC: Liberation has missions that actually differ from one another. And that is even true speaking about side-quests. Also, it has some interesting additional locations. The combat in AC: Liberation has some variety at last - in all other titles I actually finished all the games by defend+left click SPAM. This game forced me to use tools (something all other games meant to do but failed) - pistols (in close combat, I mean), smoke bombs, whip, multi-killing-combos. And of course, it had BLOOD, plenty of it. The censorship in AC: Black Flag is laughable at best.
All in all, Ubi tried to make additional port to make some more money. But suddenly it ended up being a better game than their main title.

Perfectly copes with its task. Namely: rest from more serious or more complex projects or games in General. Go and run, doing a mediocre job, changing dresses as often as their own selves. As for the graphics and in General the technical side, it is quite normal, although there are limitations, they are very clearly visible, in the truest sense of the word. Played on PC, although not abandoned somewhere on the trip, leaning on the armchair to play Ps Vita, synced the point.

Before you read forward I want you to know that I prefer that one over this one, for a number of reasons, and I suggest you play that one instead. There is literally no reason why I would rather play the original.

The one DLC this game had, available for free through the Ubisoft Connect software: "A Different Point of View" is no longer playable because Ubisoft has removed the servers behind the DLC. Funny how one can lose access to singleplayer content for a singleplayer game because the developer decides to take some servers down. Shameful and disrespectful to the playerbase, even though the DLC was free.

Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD is a remaster-port of the original PS Vita game, and it draws parallels with Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines in terms of being shorter and serving as an expansion of the existing storyline. The game's transition from handheld to PC has been handled decently, though it falls short when compared to other AC titles available on PC.

One of the standout aspects of the game is its protagonist, Aveline de Grandpré, who is the series' first playable female character. Her likable voice, appearance, and well-developed personality make her a great lead. However, the supporting characters don't match her level of depth, with only a couple of them being genuinely interesting. The overall story is above mediocre, enough to maintain interest but lacking the same intrigue as some other AC games.

The gameplay and graphics are downgraded compared to Assassin's Creed III, and there are noticeable glitches throughout the playthrough, making the experience less smooth than desired. One unique gameplay feature is the "persona" mechanic, allowing players to dress as an assassin, lady, or slave. While this idea holds potential, its implementation falls short as players are often forced into specific personas for missions. Nonetheless, it remains an interesting addition to the game.

Another new gameplay element is the "chain-kill" feature, which lets players press a button to select up to four enemies for Aveline to eliminate automatically. Unfortunately, this feature feels out of place, lacking any logical context or purpose and making combat less engaging.

The game takes place in two main maps, with New Orleans being a satisfactory, familiar AC setting, and Bayou being the weakest location in the series so far, causing frustration being hard hard to parkour or run on this map. On top of it, the canoe in Bayou has tanky controls, adding to the annoyance of navigating the area.

All in all, Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD is the most forgettable title in the series for PC. While it can slightly enhance the Assassin's Creed III experience, it does not significantly impact the overall storyline. Nevertheless, playing as Aveline is enjoyable, and she deserves a proper standalone game.

One disappointing aspect is the list of achievements, which is not implemented on Steam. This omission robs players of the satisfaction of showcasing their accomplishments, as achievements can only be viewed on Ubisoft Connect, which lacks a feature to share them with others. One can only see my achievements progress as screenshots[imgur.com], on Backloggery[www.backloggery.com], and written by myself on my Steam profile) Additionally, in-game notifications for unlocking achievements are also missing, making the achievement system feel incomplete.

In conclusion, Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD has its moments but remains an average addition to the series. The game's strong points lie in its protagonist, Aveline, and the persona mechanic, but it falls short in comparison to other PC versions of the franchise. Despite its flaws, the game can offer a worthwhile experience to fans of the series, even though it may not leave a lasting impression.

I spent hours on that single part where I need to kill the alligator, I'm not a young pup but even had my kid tried it and and couldn't pass that point. Beyond that it felt lacking of content and subquests to keep it interesting. This should have been an addon to blackflag and stayed that way and fixed for people to actually play it before released Expand
