The combat system reminds me Mass Effect Andromeda too, it's not so unique. It has been improved but not so much as they want you to believe.

The multiplayer doesn't let me enjoy the world alone, as a lot of battles are tedious as hell if I am playing alone. So I have to play with other people, that have their own pace to play, different from mine. It's kinda cool when we manage to make combos, but combos are themselves nothing special, they are the same as Mass Effect: First, you must change the state of the enemy (maybe freezing him) and then strike him...

The main villain is nothing special either. Bland, easy to predict... it's not the illusive man, for example. It resembles more... I don't know, Bowser with good talking.

I don't know, the game is not awful but... it's really lacking. I honestly don't think that anyone should spend its full price. It's a shadow compared to Mass Effect 2 or some of the Dragon Age games.

    Not recommended right now.

Guys! Refund it if you still can! This game is horrible at so many things: empty world with nothing interesting in it, combat is boring and looks stupid of you look at it from a distance, graphics was a lie, servers are unstable and there are lots of micros in full price game!!! Don't buy this **** and stay away from it even if given for free!

By know, everybody knows that these statements were BS, just as all people that had a brain, or any knowledge about game design have been saying since this project was announced.

"...Microtransactions will not affect gameplay..." - In a looter shooter game, where the (supposed) goal of the game is to find cool looking LOOT, how is cosmetic microtransactions different than paying for power in a competitive game? IT'S THE SAME THING. You are affecting the enjoyment of the game (not just because of the game design, which in these situations is made purposefully grindy), but the "pride and accomplishment" you get from EARNING things from FAIR gameplay. There is NO FAIR gameplay with games like Anthem. The game is DESIGNED to push you to spending money, on the very things you are playing the game for (in this case - looks). Aren't they clever, tricking players with semantics?

I'm not gonna even bother with the "story/narrative" because: NEWS FLASH! NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE STORY IN A MULTIPLAYER GAME, especially when you are playing with other people. Such formula will NEVER work. It has been proven time and time again. Even if the game had the most amazing story/narrative/quests/characters (and with anthem, it's the complete opposite), it would still NOT change that fact.

And guess what? They knew this, and they didn't even try. The "narrative", the characters, the "story", THEY ARE THE WORSE THEY HAVE EVER BEEN. In fact, these are below even other boringly average games, like the Division. And that coming form a studio that was KNOWN for these things, IT'S F*CKING EMBARRASING! IT's SAD!

That's right. The main point BIOEA was selling this game to their fans (those that liked story-driven Bioware RPGs), WAS A LIE. It was a lie from the very beginning. And they KNEW it. WE KNEW IT. But they went with it anyway, and were pushing it to the very last moment.
    - - -

let's pull some quotes (from IGN's "Anthem: Full BioWare Interview on Gameplay Features - E3 2018" video):

"Mark Darrah: So, a great story about Bioware is about characters that you can have a connection with, uhm, choices you get to make, and feeling like the story is about you. ... "Our World, My story.""

Well, that's BS. Anthem falls flat on it's face in that regard. Just as expected.

    - - -

"Mark Darrah: What is unique about anthem, is that it's a living shared world, where you experience the Story of your actions."

Again, complete BS statement, and a lie. A lie, softly directed at bioware fans.

    - - -

"Casey Hudson: So what we try to do, is we think about the new experiences that we are trying to unlock for players, so what is the fantasy fulfillment, what are the new things that you actually get to go and do, THAT ARE DIFFERENT FROM WHAT YOU'VE PLAYED BEFORE."

Again - another lie. No matter if he meant "different from what you've played before" in terms of comparing to other games, or Anthem and it's "mission/quest design". BOTH OF THESE THINGS ARE INCORRECT when it comes to Anthem.

No point in getting into more detail here. You can watch Skillup's reviews on anthem, and see if these BOLD statements from Mark Darrah and Casey Hudson are true. [Hint - THEY ARE NOT!]

    - - -
And isn't it cute, how there are rumors/whispers floating about how Bioware's future is is tightly dependent on Anthem's failure/success? What is this? some sort of driving people towards "sympathy purchases"?

You know what, Bioware? IF YOU STILL MADE THE GAMES WE WANTED/EXPECTED from you, we would've cared about your "future". But with generic crap like Anthem, which is obvious change of focus for the studio, and being EXACTLY what we though it's going to be (money-making online crap, that's not even as good as other FREE games like it), the most proper response at this point would be: F*CK YOU!

And f*ck all of the EA influencers, which main task was to "convince" people (the fanbase) that like Bioware's story driven action RPGs, that they should "give Anthem a chance", or even bully them to LIKEing it, just to keep BW's ass from EA's chopping block, DESPITE IT BEING A GAME THEY KNOW THE FANBASE WOULDN'T LIKE, OR CARE ABOUT (live service, multiplayer looter shooter with MT cr*p). Same thing as failout 76.

No lessons were learned, from all of the failures of other companies, that tried the "try something new", which is nothing more than "- We wanna capitalize on the current money makers, f*ck our customer base, we will strong-arm them into liking our new direction". Which is what EA's motto is, and it's exactly what Anthem is. Uninspired, boring, repetitive, appealing to NOBODY, cookie-cutter live-service EA crap, marketed with lies and false promises.

Also, Mass Effect "Died" For THIS!???

F*ck this game. The score given is a STATEMENT.

On launch, Anthem is plagued with bugs, immersion breaking loading screens and possibly the worst UI layout I've ever encountered in a game. There's no ping system, and even the ability to set waypoints is entirely non existent.

Fort Tarsis is desolate, sad, and boring. The handful of NPCs scattered throughout the fort are horrifically insufferable, with awful voice acting and even more atrocious animations. It's like trying to have a conversation with a Chuck E Cheese animatronic.

On top of all this, they have the audacity to throw microtransactions into this pile of garbage, trying to squeeze every last penny out of anyone they can. It's a blatant middle finger to the fans and shows that whoever approved this decision clearly doesn't care about providing you with quality content; they just want to make their investors happy.

The only reason I'm even giving this game a 1 rating is because the art department absolutely nailed their job. Even though the world of Anthem severely lacks variety in it's biomes, the world is beautiful and the mech suit designs are superb. Well done to anyone that had a hand in the artistic direction of Anthem, you've done a wonderful job.

In conclusion, Anthem is up there among the worst video games I have ever played in my life. I never thought I'd live to see the day where a looter shooter game was worse than Destiny 2 at launch, but BioWare have done the unimaginable.

Edit: Please note that EA playing a part in the creation of this game has absolutely nothing to do with my review. I think the game is trash because of the content, mission variety, story, NPC design, bugs, and so on.

In order to be able to play this game I had to switch language to French. I can only play this game in freaking french or it won't even load in English. What the heck is wrong with you Bioware ?

This is pretty much how you will experience Anthem: 10 hours in front of your software trying to make it work or waiting for it to load for 3 hours of actual playing time.

The worst part is that I enjoy the gameplay which is pretty much copied on Mass Effect Andromeda that I loved.

But the bugs, the crashes, being forced to play the french version, the lack of any story and the fact that I spent 70 dollars to support the studio that abandonned us Andromeda fans to create this joke of a game gave me arguably the worst gaming experience of my life and I've been playing for 25 years now…

Still, even though I can't enjoy it on an Oled screen, the game is beautiful, smooth and very promising and could be a good game in a year or two when it should actually have been released.
Hence the 2 points I give it.
It could even be a great game if Bioware were to offer us an only-solo DLC of no more than 5 to 6 hours exploring the lore of Anthem...

    - Bad gear system
    - Awful little and bad endgame content, there are 3 strongholds from which 1 of is basically a story quest replay, the stronholds are so badly balanced and designed it's phisical pain
    - Downgrades and awful optimization / performance

I could go on for ages, but this game doesn't even worth the time it takes to sort all of the problems out...
The only pro's it has is the gameplay, which is fluid and sometimes fun, but that's all that is good about this game.
It was hyped, we had hope but it turned out it was for nothing. It's horrible in many aspects, I got bored of the game before release. It was a 3 day game. I didn't have high expections, I wanted like 100 fun hours out of the game and I would've been good. I tought that nothing will be as bad of a scam as Destiny 2 at launch. I was wrong.... at least Destiny was fun for a week, this game is "fun" for max 3 days.

Many people have mentioned the loading times, horrible central hub, awful design decisions and a storyline that is more bland than a dried up piece of bread, so I'll simply state the main reason I don't like it - it is the most soulless and boring game I've played in my 28 years as a gamer.

I really really wanted to like this game, and I'll admit it is a very beautiful game, but the world is empty and lifeless, the quests are literally the most generic quests you could ever make, and the combat, which is meant to be the focus of the game, is so mind numbingly repetitive and boring I literally almost fell asleep while standing on what felt like the 100th "defense" point killing wave after wave of generic enemies.

I really hope this game can be salvaged, but seeing as so many of the issues in the game are caused by design decisions buried deep in the core of it, I can't see it happening without a complete rebuild of the entire game.

In my opinion skip this completely, save your money and buy something that is actually fun.

Edit: There are a lot of unrealistic user reviews for both the positive and negative currently, so if you're unsure who to trust then go read the reviews done by the professional reviewers who have no bias and are reporting on the game as it is currently.

Wow! Even after the delay, the train-wreck was still inevitable.

Right, let's start with the positives. The world is beautiful, environments and their tiny details are simply stunning. Javelin customization is also fairly deep, allowing you to also edit finer details such as finishes and fabrics. Gameplay can be fun at first, and each Javelin has enough variety to offer something different. Unfortunately praise ends there, everything else is incredibly underwhelming.

I complemented the environments, but we NEVER do anything interesting in them. You find a horde of enemies, clear them out, and move onto the next point. Enemies are also scattered without any thought, wasting the opportunity to take advantage of the space they're in. It's a real shame because instead of interacting with something the artists obviously spent so much time on, you just fly by and ignore it most of the time.

Now gameplay isn't that bad, though some Javelin's are obviously better than others. Storm seems to be the most popular one I've seen, and I'm guilty myself of being on that bandwagon. Blowing stuff up is really satisfying, until you realize 10+ hours in this is all you do. The whole experience is just a massive grind, and the atrocious loading times don't help. Even at higher difficulties, they don't offer much to spice up gameplay.

People are clinging onto the story as a positive element, seriously? Even next to the likes of Destiny ONE, it's the most generic and uninspired plot I've seen in awhile. It's very difficult to care about the world or characters which inhabit it, everything is just so... soulless. That's one of Anthem's biggest problems, it has no identity of its own. It's just another big budget game which will most likely be forgotten 10 years from now.

As for those repeating, "This is day 1, it's still early they'll fix it later!" remember Mass Effect: Andromeda? They did one patch, and abandoned the product because everyone saw it as a joke. It should be common knowledge by now that a strong launch is EVERYTHING, and right now the product we got doesn't even feel like a complete game.

Loading screen simulator. It is another ME: A...Same **** bugs, pornostory and "endgame". If you want playing this type of game, just take Warframe. Better and cheaper.

    Bioware is dead...Thank you, EA:)

8 hours playtime, virtually no interaction, no story, endlessly repeating missions.

The game feels like a early access game that needs 1 or 2 more year in development. Other than the huge amount of loading screen, some of the design decision in this game is bizarre. You can't see what loot you got until go back to the forge through two loading screen. Additionally, the mission design is worst I have seen in a while. Freeplay sucks because there is no indicator of where events are going on. Enemy design and AI is extremely bad. There are only 3 armor set for each class and they dont drop from enemies. Guns are boring, they all look the same and even masterwork weapons are just a skin. Expand

This game is really not fun at all, many bugs, no excitement in game-play. This is the first PVE game that will make me fall asleep. "Best" Game Bioware & EA. If you want to sleep, play anthem. For sure will feel sleepy after few games. Waste of talent.

After a while, suspicion sets in: perhaps EA doesn’t believe in BioWare anymore, and had them release not only unpolished, but basically unfinished product to cut losses and avoid another total rework. [Issue#237, p.44]

If you want to see Anthem’s lush jungle and glistening Javelins, do it right away — this game is losing audience fast, and there’s almost nothing to do after the campaign ends. Or check it out on YouTube to save yourself some nerves and money.

It's obvious that Anthem didn't have enough development time, but had some great potential. It's a real shame, that everything turned out this way. Even now, the game can bring out positive emotions. Hasty climbers have sudden falls. No matter how ironic this proverb may seem, it's incredibly relevant for Anthem.
