Anna isn't bad, but through the entire game I felt like something was missing. It gave me a few good chills, and didn't use cheap jump scares. There's always really specific things that need to be done to progress, which takes away from what could've been a much better experience. Anna has multiple endings, and some leave you pretty damn disappointed I must say, while others are more pleasing. And one last complaint: the game is too short. I'm okay with a short game if it's very well-down and doesn't need to be any longer, but Anna wasn't good enough to be slightly under 3 hours (if you're lucky). If Anna is on sale and you like scary, mind-bending point-and-click adventure games, get it. If it's full price, you could probably spend that money on a better title. Expand

Spooked here and there and having the wood lady suddenly appear next to me did make me jump (not to mention having a few nightmares about her following me). There are some scenes in the game that I feel are just so forced. It tries too hard to be scary to a point it's almost laughable and the gimmicks get old. Some points are just plain annoying. Any fear I had just turned is to annoyance and anxiety of having to waddle through several rooms because I missed something and I have to avoid damage.

It had potential and it hit some decent marks, but overall it was an experience I could live without.

The UI and controls are clunky and feel like they are more of a chore to work with than they should be. The FPS chugs often, especially during special "events." The story quickly becomes confusing and after finishing the game about 4 times, I'm still not totally sure what happened. Perhaps the story was lost in translation (Anna was originally made in Italian and then translated into English), but it's still not as good as it could have been. Puzzles are confusing and often illogical. You have to search for the vaguest of clues and make wild guesses in order to advance. If you're hoping for a game like Amnesia, then you will be disappointed. Anna is more of a point and click adventure with some horror elements rather than a pure horror game. There are a couple creepy points but nothing of the caliber of Amnesia or any other dedicated horror game. Still, there was something special about Anna. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It was a solid effort by a new indie developer. Expand

First you have to spent an hour just to familiarize yourself with the clunky controls and the horrible mouse sensibility. After that you think your problems are gone, but they're not... you found a lot of things you can do with your collected objects, but very soon you realize they don't make any sense, so you start to search and try every bizarre combination to try to solve simple puzzles and this take long, much more long than your patience.

The worst is... every new room i entered i got struggle with a buggy blinking environment lights that makes me literally close my eyes to not being blind. Sometimes it stop in a few seconds, sometimes don't, and i found me running or shaking the mouse trying to stop the madness. Sometimes i had to go to options and click every button, then it stops.

It is really a shame that game being published this way, because i really like the mystery mood, but it's really impossible to play. In the Steam forums you see any decent answer either by Dreampainters or Kalypso Media. You just don't get any support, unless a false statement that is a Unity problem. You buy a broken game and it's your own problem, they'll not fix it.

Also, you have to make a Kalypso account and login in a launcher every time you start the game, even with no online resources. This publisher is one of the worst i ever seen, they don't have any respect or care with customers. I'll skip any title under their label forever.

Do *not* purchase this game for a Mac!

Anna: EE is a beautifully made game, but despite being advertised to work on Mac computers it does *not*! No inputs are responsive except for the mouse in the menu, and "w, a, s, d". Since you need to use other keys to play, you can't even get past the first screen. From July 1st to August 15th the game has been 100% unplayable from this bug.

    - The graphics are shoddy, even for a two year old game.
    - Lighting is poor, and many environments are terribly lit. This is a bigger problem as many of the challenges are akin to pixel hunts.
    - Mouse sensitivity always feels off, to the point where my arm (and eyes, see above) ache after a session.
    - Large, rambling documents strewn around that need to be read, yet the relevant information they yield could be reduced to one line.
    - Groan-worthy puzzle solutions, i.e. this item needs something else to work... and after 20minutes of thinking of a way round it... oh look, it was here all along, hidden in a dark corner under a stack of garbage that I can have fun removing with the clunky physics engine.
    - Add A to B. Add C to B. Use D on B. Get E.
    - Illogical "sanity" engine.

This is a point and click horror adventure game…
And by point and click game I mean monkey island style in a first person 3d setting…
Its all about picking up items, finding items and figuring out how they all go together…
It literally took me 40 minutes just to get inside the house because these combinations are so obscure..
Every solution seemingly needs a chain of events rather than being self contained…
So I decided to just restart the game and play with a guide…
much less frustrating experience that way…. Im not an add a toaster to the water kind of guy..
if you are.. youre going to really enjoy this game.. even more than I ultimately did
it takes place in 1 house and took me 2 hours to complete with a guide…
As you explore the house youll come across books and items that give a back story.. you can even combine different intuitions to get the full picture of what happened and why you keep dreaming of this house..
There are no jump scares here.. the horror is more psychological…
the game does a great job with its sounds and placements of items to make the journey to the end as disturbing and unsettling as possible…
You can even choose to just leave any time you want…
The game has 8 endings and you can get to one of them in literally less than 5 minutes…
But I wanted to full story so I stuck it out…
And it ended up being a great horror experience with a compelling story..
One I figured out before it ended..
but even at the end I couldn’t believe that it was exactly as I thought…
Anna is definitely worth experiencing for horror fans as well as adventure fans…
But its definitely one of those games you should play with a guide handy
Because the puzzles triggers and combination of items even with a guide made no sense most of the time.

I myself have not yet completed the game, I'm so close but it is a challenge, I'll give it that. However I'm far enough in to give my fair share. I realize most of the negative and mixed reviews come from PC and Mac users, and all I can say is that this game had not been made for either of those platforms. I have it for the PS3 and it works wonderfully for me. Even with the nightmarish realm you enter, the developers have added small bits of beauty, keeping you awe struck throughout your adventure. The game has beautiful twists with this eerie atmosphere, and the cut scenes being time based keep you on your feet.
It is sadly a quite underrated game, one that I would suggest you should play for yourself on a platform it would work best with.

Anna is a classic horror tale about a very dark and twisted version of self-discovery mixed with some truly fascinating real-world mythology. Although it occasionally stumbles in the story-telling department and not all of its game mechanics are introduced to the player -- like, at all -- each of the eight endings are amusing and rewarding to get. It also helps that, while Anna is never a truly terrifying game, it's plenty unsettling. It sets itself apart from being just another Amnesia clone. The absence of a stalker relentlessly pursuing you might seem boring, but the replacement more than excuses its absence. There are some jump scares here, but there are also scares that are subtle and get under your skin in just the right ways. Anna relies on its atmosphere to sell on why things are twisted and off-putting. Part of what sells that atmosphere so effectively is its soundtrack, which stands alongside Lone Survivor as one of the best for an Indie Horror game. It's orchestral, melancholic, and sometimes rocks. Like the rest of the game, it feels very Italian in a good way. Really, that's what makes Anna so good. It feels like it's come from another culture, and it uses the influences of that culture to give you something you haven't tried before.

Again, well worth checking out if you can deal with the caveats of either the PC or console versions.

I have mixed feelings about Anna: Extended Edition. It holds a sense of nostalgia for me, as I used to genuinely enjoy it a long time ago. The game successfully creates a great atmosphere and uncomfortable ambiance, and considering the scale of the game, the visuals are passable. Additionally, the story intrigued me, and I found myself hooked when I first played it.

However, the gameplay proves to be the major drawback of this title. It's unfortunate that the game frequently requires consulting a walkthrough or searching the internet to progress, as this breaks immersion and becomes incredibly frustrating. The lack of clear direction leaves players unsure of what to do most of the time, and this greatly diminishes the overall experience.

From a gameplay standpoint, Anna: Extended Edition is quite disappointing, failing to deliver a smooth and engaging gameplay experience. The need to rely heavily on external resources detracts from the enjoyment of the game, hindering players from fully immersing themselves in the world and the story it presents.

As a result of the gameplay issues, the overall experience of playing Anna: Extended Edition is, unfortunately, mediocre. Despite its intriguing story and nostalgic elements, the frustrating gameplay significantly dampens the overall enjoyment of the game. While it may hold appeal for players who have fond memories of it, newcomers may find themselves struggling to fully appreciate the title due to its gameplay shortcomings.
