Super Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV

Mostly, I am just happy that there is a good Mario Party available in the Switch 2’s launch window. It’s not a game I see myself booting up on my own, but as a means to get a party going with players of all skill levels, I am glad I have it on the metaphorical shelf.

Jamboree TV is a very good addition to Super Mario Party Jamboree, but that doesn't justify a port with no improvements to 70% of its content. Judging it as a new game, it needs more new content and for that content to be more accessible to everyone.

All of this leaves me in a bit of a conundrum. On the one hand, Mario Party Jamboree is the best thing that has happened to my favourite Nintendo multiplayer properties. On the other hand, this… this was just not Nintendo’s finest hour. A clunky mess of a package that seems not to have been thought through, coupled with an infuriating limitation on online play really lets it down. Also, when you think about it, most of the really good stuff was in the Switch original, and while Jamboree TV adds more, it doesn’t add anything that tops what we already have. Overall, the disappointment of the Switch 2 launch window, despite being essential if you haven’t played it before.

Super Mario Party Jamboree TV doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it polishes the party nicely. The new minigames and Coaster mode shine. The heavy camera reliance won’t be for everyone though. Still, it’s classic Mario Party fun with a flashy twist.

The good is undermined, however, by splitting the game between the untouched original release and the improved Jamboree TV portion. It is a shame as Jamboree TV could be the definitive release with better considered UX. As a result of this, it comes down to whether you feel the additional mini-games and modes are worth the upgrade price or if the feature-packed original release will suffice.

Jamboree TV brings some fun new Switch 2 features to an already great party game. The motion-controlled mini-games and all-new Frenzy Mode are definite highlights, but the clunky game structure and camera-based Bowser mini-games don’t quite hit the mark.

The basic premise has remained the same, and this is one of the better entries, although it can get boring and isn’t always fair, while Jamboree TV doesn’t really add much.

Super Mario Party Jamboree is still the best entry in the series, but the new content of the Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV re-release adds frustrating limitations and strange design decisions to what was otherwise a polished, customizable experience. Its camera-focused content is pretty forgettable, but there are a few worthwhile additions like the great mouse control minigames and interesting new rulesets. However, it’s hard to enjoy them to the fullest due to how this content is divided across two separate versions that don’t talk to each other at all. Core features like achievements, unlockables, minigame records, and even rulesets are locked behind the Switch 1 version, which shockingly got zero performance or resolution updates like the Jamboree TV portion did.

Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV introduces a collection of fun new rule sets, but is brought down a bit due to the camera and microphone games that, for a title released in 2025, should work better than they do. That said, slapping your live reactions into your Mario Party games adds an undeniable layer of goofy entertainment that the series is known for.

With Jamboree TV, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Super Mario Party Jamboree gains even more wacky, if shallow, ways to enjoy multiplayer mini-game mayhem.

This upgraded edition features sharp 4K visuals and makes smart use of Switch 2 hardware like the camera and Joy-Con 2. New modes such as Bowser Live and Carnival Coaster are fun but feel more like tech demos due to their lack of depth. The core Mario Party gameplay is still strong, with new team-based and chaos-driven rule sets adding variety. It's a great choice for newcomers, but returning players may find limited value without full hardware support.

But for anyone jumping in at full wack, the slight visual edge and mixed bag of camera-based minigames don’t necessarily make it an essential purchase over the much cheaper and perfectly playable Switch 1 version.

If you never played the original, my advice is to try it out before buying the upgraded version, because most likely that the base content here will be more than enough.

As an update package, the Switch 2 Edition isn't all that special. It doesn't technically improve anything other than the Jamboree TV portion, and the game modes only offer short-term fun before they start repeating themselves. The best part of Mario Party, in my opinion, is the minigames, both in the entire package and in this update. But would I pay 20 euros for them? Maybe not.

Super Mario Party Jamboree for Switch 2 is a missed opportunity. While the core game remains a fantastic party classic, the new Jamboree TV expansion undermines the experience. Instead of one cohesive package, you're left with two separate apps that don't communicate with each other. If you already own Jamboree, there's little reason to upgrade – and if you don't, you're better off grabbing the cheaper original version.

In principle, the Switch 2 upgrade has a lot to offer, but little of it leaves a lasting impression. It feels more like a technology showcase than a focus on new content that fans really want.

However, to fully enjoy the experience, players will need to purchase additional accessories not included with the console. This means an extra investment on top of the game’s $79.99 price tag.

I hope Nintendo handles future Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + New Content releases in a more organised and organic way. It’s overly complicated to play through the different modes, with caveats everywhere, which means some modes don’t get the proper Switch 2 Edition treatment. Mario Party superfans will enjoy the new modes for the main board games, but the Jamboree TV additions—aside from the mouse games—are a bit average. Jamboree was a solid and complete package, and this just splits it all up and breaks the flow.

So it might look like I'm nit-picking here, but coming from Super Mario Party Jamboree, you expect greatness and maximum care. And don't get me wrong, this doesn't make the original game any worse. You should still definitely buy it on Switch 2 if you never got it on the original system, as it remains the king of parties, and even if I'm telling you that you'll enjoy it more with a plugged-in camera, and that the Mouse mini-games are solid additions, Jamboree TV as a next-gen upgrade lands like a bad roll.

While the base game of Super Mario Party Jamboree remains a must-have, the Jamboree TV expansion for Switch 2 is take it or leave it. For the price, the new Carnival Coaster mode and mouse minigames are a fun time, and the new rulesets for Mario Party are a welcome inclusion. Alas, Bowser Live struggles to make good use of the camera and microphone, CameraPlay is only worth it if you have friends or family to play with online, and the increased resolution is not supported with any of the original side modes. Just one new game board would have added so much value, but Jamboree TV doesn’t even have that.

Super Mario Party Jamboree is still the same friendship-ending game you may or may not have loved a couple of months back, and Jamboree TV sprinkles in a few bright ideas. Frenzy Rules and mouse-control minigames are very fun. The problem is that everything else feels like a tech showcase in search of a reason to exist, and the awkward separation from the base game doesn’t help its case. What’s worse, there isn’t even a new game board! When the highlight of a $20 add-on is a handful of quick novelties and minigames that force you to buy a peripheral, it’s hard to imagine this being worth picking over other party games.

Super Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV combines one of the best Mario Party games ever with a mediocre collection of updates that feel like gimmicks for the most part. The puzzling decision to split updates across the Switch and Switch 2 content only adds to the overall feeling that this is a channel I can't recommend tuning into unless you're the biggest of Mario Party fans.

Super Mario Party Jamboree's Nintendo Switch 2 Edition adds very little to the already incredible base game, and the Jamboree TV expansion is filled with gimmicky, lackluster game modes with the occasional nugget of gold thrown in.
