Resident Evil Village gets the treatment it deserves on the Nintendo Switch 2 under this Gold Edition, that not only does a much better job than its cloud-based predecessor, but also includes the DLC released since then. Featuring a tense-ridden atmosphere, an exquisite sound design and an impressive array of unforgettable and disturbing enemies, Resident Evil Village Gold Edition stands on its own merits. The game has more than earned its place on the Switch 2 and delivers a marvellous blend of gothic horror, exploration and action.

It's a true cinematic experience, with every cutscene watched with interest. The appearance of enemies — both large and small —is excellent. The pacing is good, and the village itself proves to be a great location. However, there can be too much action in a horror setting, which hasn't always been a good thing for this series. Inventory management is practically nonexistent, and the handheld version suffers from some frame drops.

Playing this excellent port of Resident Evil Village - Gold Edition in handheld is transformative. The whole experience is here with all of its fingers intact, though the same can't be said of the protagonist. For Nintendo fans who haven't had a chance to play this Resident Evil instalment, this is a fantastic entry point. With a few performance patches, it could well be one of the best ways to play bar none. Successfully following RE7, Village is a good jump off point for people looking for a less concentrated experience than RE: Requiem. Highly recommended horror gaming!
