This game deliberately unfairly disadvantages minors and even some adults. If you're not allowed to go anywhere then you can't get anything in this game, besides there's WAY too much grinding for rewards you'll never get.

Don't waste your time or money on this garbage and get Emerald or Platinum instead.

This game is such a good idea conceptually. The theme around all of the Pokémon series is travelling the world, discovering Pokémon, and having the ability to do so in the real world is a great idea. However, this game slowly became less of a game and more of a billboard. Nowadays, if you want to get a specific, early-game Pokémon, you have to wait for a celebration of that specific Pokémon or you can't get it. Additionally, with the seasonal events and missions, the game seems to revolve more around marking your calendar and going to a real-world event rather than playing the game normally. Another problem is that as you progress through the game, certain goals will have to be reached, some of which are unrealistically challenging or entirely luck-based. Some features are also limited to certain areas or require transportation or other things in the real world that may not be available to all players.
In conclusion, I think that this game started off alright, but slowly became desperate for content and community involvement as the years went on.

I've been playing this game for more than most people here who posted a review in 2016 after 1 week of playing it, so I'm going to explain everything about the game and what I think about it.

There are three main aspects of the game: Catching, raiding and doing pvp. Catching pokemons is basically what the games wants you to do, go out of your house and catch as many mons as possible.

In my opinion it is the most boring aspect of the game, you just throw balls at wild pokemons and hope they stay in. It gets repetitive really fast and Niantic knows it well, that's why there are constant events with exclusive new/shiny mons every time, to make the game feel fresh every week or so. Inside of events you only find the 10 or so featured event pokemons. What that means is most pokemons are locked inside of random events that happen once a year if you are lucky, and if you want a specific mon as soon as possible you will have to wait a lot. Outside of events you only find rattatas or the equivalent of rattata for the next gens.

Raiding allows you to catch rare mons and legendaries, they will appear as bosses inside of a gym and you have to defeat it before the time ends and you can try to defeat them with a group of people or alone. It is again, incredibly repetitive as you just need to tap the screen on the same point of your device until the boss is defeated or the time runs out. 99% of legendary pokemons are impossible to defeat alone and you will need a large group of people to defend them. No matter how good you are at the game, there is absolutely nothing you can do to kill the boss faster, or to outplay in some way the boss to deafeat it, all you can do is click the screen of your phone until it dies. The only difference between day 1 players and new players is the pokemons they own, if you give a fully maxed account to a new player, they will be as good as a day 1 player, because they will have to tap the screen the same way.

Pvp (also known as go battle league) is by far the best part of the game, however it is the least played. In pvp there are three main rotating leagues, each one allows pokemons of a different combat power, you pick 3 of them and queue into another guy using 3 pokemons. Up until they show the mons in battle, you have absolutely no idea what they are playing. Most teams are built around this blind pick, and some times no matter what you will just be hard countered by your opponent's team. That's because of the mechanics of pvp: it's a "turn" based game, with each turn lasting 0,5 seconds. If you touch the screen, your pokemon will use a fast move (that can last from 1 turn of 0,5 second to 5 turns of 2,5 seconds), this fast move damages the opponent mon and generates energy for your own mon. Once you have enough energy, you can throw a charged attack, which does a lot of damage. Because charge attack are so strong, you can choose to shield your pokemon from it (2 times per match) and make it take only 1hp of damage istead of the full damage. If you swap pokemons, you can't swap it again for the next 60 seconds, meaning that if you lose lead, swap, and they swap into a pokemon that counters yours, you will have to play a bad matchup for 60 seconds. This is again, what makes it impossible to win some games and some and why I wrote earlier that " sometimes no matter what you will just be hard countered by your opponent's team". Experienced players will know how to play out of a bad lead and a bad swap, and will still be able to win the game. While at first glance it will look like just another tapping simulator, it is so much more than that, you have to make split seconds decisions according to your opponent, you can swap your pokemons with a precise timing in order to take their charge move on a different pokemon and waste all their energy, you can bait their shields with a weak and unexpensive charge move to then hit them really hard with a more expensive one... I absolutely reccomend you giving it a shot or at least watching some video of it on youtube, especially the ones where the highest rated players explain their gameplay, you will understand just how complex a game like this can be.
However, there are just so many problems with pvp, and I'm not just talking about problems caused by game design, the gamemode is full of bugs. Even catches and raids are full of problems and bugs, but because in pvp a turn (0,5 seconds) can be the difference between a win and a loss, having a bug occur during a game can cost you the game. These bugs have been around ever since pvp came out and haven't been fixed yet, and combined with the already present problems of pvp makes for an incredibly frustrating experience. I would like to list every single problem this gamemode has, but unfortunately I don't have enough characters left to do so. Unfortunately, in 10 seasons Niantic did absolutely nothing to try and fix the game, not even bugs that have been here since day1.

Second is how repetitive the game play becomes after a while with the battles such as raids just requiring tapping, and collecting Pokemon being monotonous. The final issue to the devaluing of shiny Pokemon brought on by events with extremely high odds which can be transferred in to the main games with less effort than usually needed to obtain the rare coloring. The fact that almost five years later the game retains a HUGE playerbase tells you it is, if not a, per se, masterpiece, a tremendous success. The main mechanics have not changed, but the game now has lots of features, including the long-demanded trading and PvP, plus mega evolutions, daily tasks, and discovery missions. Sure, it has microtransactions, but I belive this is a legit monetisation method in free to play games, contrary to in 60-dollar games. Of course in the experience makes an impact the fact that the game has been able to form local communities and anyone who has made new friends while playing it will probably tell you that, despite some milor flaws (I have to mention an inconsistent anti-cheat enforcement) Pokémon Go is already a remarkable and iconic game in the franchise. The singleplayer experience is pretty boring but if you have other people to actually play with it gets better. I'm lucky I have a park filled with pokestops but playing this game in certain zones is a waste of time because there are no pokestops or gyms around. Another issue is that it takes to long to load, there are tons of GPS bugs, there is no option to skip animations and there are not many shiny pokemon yet.

The combat just sucks. There is no strategy unlike the actual pokemon games, you just tap the screen. But I'm not much of a battler, I'm more of a collector and enjoy capturing shinies more than anything else in this game.

Basically, if you have other friends interested in playing this, you can have a fun experience and do some trades and raids together. If you plan to play this alone, don't even bother. It's a waste of time. Unless you walk a lot and want some distraction to pass some time.

I do have one other thing to say about this game tho. It DEFINITELY WASN'T worth playing in 2016-2017. The game felt like it missed so many features and there wasn't really any reason for playing it at all. Just to catch some pokemon felt like a lame reason to play. Now we have trading, a friend system with gifts, a buddy system, raids, an online battle mode. The game just feels so much more finished now and much more worth playing. So reviews from 2016 are pretty much invalid considering how much the game has changed over the years. So I would say when life gets a little boring, and you want something to get hooked on. Just try this game again. Chances are that you played it a few years ago and then dropped it. But the game is just so much better now that it really deserves another shot. Definitely if you have friends that play it. the game too.

The idea of Pokemon Go is fantastic and continues to fascinate people around the globe, myself included. When I am bored at the store or waiting for someone, I will hop on instead of needlessly wasting time scrolling through social media. I waste my time where it counts! Catching Pokemon lol. It is always inspiring to see Niantic pushing new ideas on the gamer to keep them hooked (or ways to get more money but whatever floats your boat).
The thing with Pokemon Go is that once logged on, you catch Pokemon, waste some items and that is about it. Then you have to walk to locations on the map to do more things within the game. I don't like socializing, I am pretty antisocial so that aspect of the game is totally lost on me. When I log on, I catch the Pokemon within my radius, try to complete some tasks and then log off for who knows how many days. Honestly, at this point, the game is just taking up space on my phone.
I am giving it 5 stars due to the fact that the game is pretty revolutionary, a new technology that will certainly see more usage in the near future. This is only the beginning of something much more beautiful.

Seriously, you walk outside, try to find pokemons and throw a ball to get them, so simple but decent fun. The game shines when you get friends and go to a park, the game encourages a overweight, lazy generation to go outside and walk. Eventually, you can meet new people and new real friends by talking to them when getting Pokemon.
But it's too simple to actually sustain itself, even with gym battles you eventually get bored, but until that time you can get a great workout and some decent fun.

Honestly, I don't see why many people are so into such a dangerous app game. I only played it a little bit, and about the only /real/ entertainment I got from playing it is when I took a photo of my pet ferret with a Horsea last year.

If you one of those gamers who really don't want to get hurt, let alone get killed irl, I strongly advise you avoid this (cr)app game.

GG, buenas noches.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was promising when it was advertised/first came out, but now it's just gone down hill. This game probably had the most potential and most hype in the history of games, but absolutely failed to deliver.

    - Rural areas, and even some suburban areas, are completely screwed over because barely any pokémon spawn there. This effectively cuts out a good chunk of their playerbase, and a good chunk out of their score. (-2)

    - The battle system is only kept for gym battles. (-1)

    - Everything is repetitive. I don't know anyone, online or offline, who still plays Pokémon Go. There's nothing fun or anything new to do any more. (-1)

    - There's no major updates (besides generation updates, which are going to happen every blue moon). (-1)

    - Niantic is too afraid to modify the game (in terms of actual gameplay, not pokémon) after they published it. No Pokéstops/gyms have been added/removed from Niantic, and there's not much players can do to modify/improve the game (-1)

    - Speaking of Niantic, let's face it, Pokémon Go is just a reskinned Ingress with pokémon involved. (-1)

Overall, they did have a good idea (which I'll give a +1 for), but they ultimately failed to bring it to what it was expected to be.

Once that community progession halted and levels would theoretically take around a month and your Pokedex was filled it really lost its charm and became a grind for that extra bit of CP or evolve that final rare Pokemon which you already know your Dragonite is superior to and youll never use it.

Gen 2 helped but adding new Pokemon along the road in a game like this isnt going relight that flame.

This idea did take off and was able to initially get players to go outside and experience the idea of catching the original 150 Pokemon, reflecting on the 20th anniversary of Nintendo's Pocket Monsters. Unfortunately, Pokemon GO is no different of a mobile game than say diner dash, candy crush or clash of clans and by its third month of release, the hype died fast. The launching of the app came with a myriad of problems: awful crashing, using lures to get people to be robbed, raped or beaten up, putting pokemon in holy and respected establishments that caused outrage, rural areas had virtually no diversity in pokemon, terrible rng based pokemon catching that any main Pokemon title could do better and maintenance that kept players away from the app when it was supposedly ready for launch.

The influx of downloads might have been a reason why it was unprepared, but when you take a iconic name and know that many who are downloading are the same people that played the originals as kids (along with being one of the most popular franchises of all time across most of the world) you should have anticipated more and refine your systems to handle it better. Making a team based allegiance on top of that (with stupid memes and competition) is just downright pointless. Because it is free and a mobile game, it also sells lures and other microtransactions that go through your time duration even if you are not on the game! It is stupid and should never be allowed.

The updates of adding the Johto region is admirable, but with over 700 Pokemon now, it is much easier to just play on the 3DS of any of the new or latest Pokemon games and trade and catch there. Also it's combat is better too, and if you can't get THAT right, then you defeated your own concept entirely. Overall, Pokemon GO is a subpar app that has cool concepts that are mired by technical and social problems that plague it to this very day.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pokemon Go is flawed at best but it is an endearing project that, similar to Bungie’s Destiny, has evolved over time into something much greater and relatively smoother than it initially was when presented. Over the past week (and potentially still going on) Niantic has been slowly but surely releasing new pocket monsters into the wild. Although not all Generation 1 and 2 Pokemon are in the game as of yet- many monsters of the legendary variety have yet to ever show up and be confirmed, this is definitely good for publicity as well as for adding content to the alternate reality simulation.

I was never personally big on Pokemon Go, but I recently started watching the original Indigo League again for old time’s sake- more on that later, as I was considering blogging about it and my impressions as well. Needless to say, this led me to want to scratch my Pokemon itch- something that I haven’t felt in a good long time, and rather than shell out the forty bucks for the newest game(s) I deigned it an appropriate time for the hefty download to my iPhone instead.

It’s only been a couple of days and I’ve played sparingly here and there between work and other responsibilities, but I’m finding that it is easily one of the most accessible titles, if a bit frustrating thanks to several glitches and bugs here and there. The most annoying aspects come from random GPS and server failures as well as the fact that the app takes about six or seven tries to even get started. Besides three moments where my app crashed right when I captured rarer monsters, it’s been fun and games so far. I’m a solid level ten and already have some nice second generation additions with over five or six hundred combat proficiency and power.

My basic impressions are probably pretty close to any and everything else you’ve heard about the game and the update in the past, however I still think some things merit credit or explanation where credit or explanation are due. The most recent update has added some other elements besides simple boosts to the roster and the mechanics. Pokemon now more actively and realistically try to evade capture- often knocking even well-aimed pokeballs away if you’re not careful in your timing. Several new items have been added as well to further expand the lore and the universe of Pokemon Go. All in all, the update itself lays a solid layer upon the shaky foundation of the game and actually makes it a little more balanced and playable even for its flaws.

Sure, it’s annoying as ever that some of the rarer Pokemon, no matter their level, will break free of most any pokeball and virtually ignore your berries and charms- I’m talking to you Togepi and Totodile. But all in all it’s a rich experience and one that, despite being limited to only some three hundred of the total eight hundred plus Pokemon now available in the known universe, is fun and encompasses the feelings I imagine Ash, Brock, and Misty must’ve felt in the original series. I’m interested to see where the app goes from here and hope that it gets the continued support it and fans deserve as well. It’s a worthy goal to want to meld interactive gaming and health benefits, after all.

Every update adds minor polishments which do not solve problems and to now they don't even have a working tracker and recently they BLATANTLY stated that they have NO plans to release a new one..Just to give us a middle finger! (Not to say all working trackers are DESTROYED, so there is currently no way to track rare Pokemon)

Plus Spoofers, Hackers and illegitimate level 10 gyms run rampant and there is absolutely NO stopping them while legit players on Rooted devices, Pokemon trackers/scanners and legit level 39/40 players (Search Pokemon Go Level 40 in Google) were ALL destroyed!

Recently i even saw that they increased the speed limit to 25 mbph or more so Pokemon DO NOT spawn when you are on a car. Talk about business suicide!

AND most of the features they advertised in the AD including legendaries, Trading and Trackers are NOT presented yet, they are STILL in the coding, and i do NOT see a future where they will be presented to the public.

This company DOES NOT CARE for anything save for DESTROYING their game and a potentially great concept, that is all about it.

If you go to the pokemongo reddit (/r/pokemongo), 99% of the frontpage posts have something to do with devs being a total f**kup and ironically, MOST PLAYERS AGREE. This should give you a very nice idea on what this company actually is.

The only good thing about it is they do admit the game is unfinished unlike WarZ devs.

The fanbase is corrupt to and my rant posts about this game, as well as anything that tried to defend the trackers got DOWNVOTED TO OBLIVION and mods on the reddit sub even removed my posts without warning at all! (Other people do whatever they want and get thousands of upvotes)

If this is not a corrupt fanbase...i don't know what is!

And there is no use with the Pokemon save for fighting Gyms which i can reliably wipe out within a single attempt most of the time and with supposedly weak pokemon like ALAKAZAM and MACHAMP even though they are infested with Snorlaxes and Lapras with over 2000CP. And not to say that Gyms boot me out 99% of the time and it locks out then there is no way of getting around it save for waiting for 10 to 15 minutes!

On the good side Pokemon flee much less in the latest update which is the only thing good.

And below the resentful players and tracker sites there are a bunch of clueless people who do not know what is going on. Now i can see around 5 hours without a single lure in a 1000km area and Gyms got replaced after 3 minutes!

DO NOT support this game and its developers; They will not give you any form of promise, they just DESTROY, DESTROY, DESTROY and DO NOT expect a gen ii update, legendary pokemon and new trackers coming until 5 months later and at that time the company who made this game would had been finished DESTROYING this game, take money and close servers!!

DO NOT download this game until they fixed the majority of their broke stuff!

Niantic is not addressing this at all, they are sweeping this problem under the proverbial rugs, so unless you live in a large city like NYC, you will have an extremely hard time playing PoGo.

To prove how severely unbalanced and unfair the game is, I did a comparison ""test"", using a GPS spoof on an emulator (yes cheating) playing in New York's central park, and travelling at walking/running and bike speed only, it took just over a day playing for about 4 - 5 hours in two sessions to reach trainer level 20, and capture around 95% of all the current pokemon in the G1 pokedex, and without warping around to capture rare pokemon.

Compared to my 'legitimate' account in my area, that took just over a month to reach trainer level 20, and only only fill a small % of the pokedex, often I had to travel more than 5+ miles just to find any amount of pokestops to fill up on pokeballs, now tell me - where is the balance? Perhaps, NYC should have 900 of its 1000s of pokestops, gyms and massive spawn points removed?

Players complaining because of cheaters should be forced to play the game with little to no ability to play before judging- I call out players living in areas with large amounts of stops/spawns/gyms cheaters in that respect, but ultimately it doesn't really matter who uses IV checkers/PokeVision/GPS Spoofers, eventually they'll ban everyone, heck even people who haven't been cheating are getting banned so..

To avoid alot of this mess to begin with, Niantic should have balanced the game so much better and cater to every player no matter the location but they didn't so any really its their fault there are so many issues, unfortunately the games popularity surge clouded their judgement, and corporate greed took over any common sense, and as such - this game is doomed to fail hard sooner or later and so it should, this could have been something special if more time and care was taken - but in the end, proved to by an over-hyped cash grab by a pitiful company, and has alot of fanboys defending it.

Many reviewers have commented that the game mechanics present a lack of depth, particularly from the perspective of a seasoned gamer. In my opinion, this is a valid point. However, this is counterbalanced by the widespread appeal and positive aspects of the game as set forth above. Pokemon Go presents the familiar challenge to explore and grow in level/strength that has the potential to really motivate players. This is part of what makes this game, like many others, successful. But Pokemon Go is somewhat unique in that I've seen parents and their kids enjoy the game together, and I've observed other individuals, who are generally not inclined to play video games, that just can't seem to put this one down.

Another criticism reported by some reviewers is that the game is excessively buggy, crashes/freezes with surprising frequency, or doesn't even load at all. I can say from experience that those observations were correct within the first couple of weeks after the game's launch. However, recently, I've noticed vast improvement in this regard. The game has been updated; and for me, it now boots and runs normally. Battery usage on my phone (Android) still does seem a bit high; although on another user's phone (IOS) there doesn't seem to be any battery issues with the game [it is also possible that my battery issues may be due to other variables].

In sum, Pokemon Go's success speaks for itself -- and it is well deserved. Is it a complex and sophisticated MMO -- no, of course not. However, is it one of the most approachable and fun to play for gamers of all skill levels -- I would say, yes. 8/10.

Prior to the update, I would have given this game a 7. However, the update wrecked this game. Niantic took one step forward and two steps back.

    Pros:

The nostalgia of capturing 151 Pokemon is a brilliant concept. You do actually feel like a Trainer. There's no better feeling than evolving or finding new Pokemon to catch.

Collecting Stardust and watching your Pokemon grow feels rewarding.

The servers rarely crash anymore. The game plays fluently for the most part.

    Cons:

The game still will freeze in the middle of gameplay, sometimes during crucial moments like catching new Pokemon or during gym battles.

After the update, the Pokemon now run away so much easier. This is my biggest complaint. Challenge is one thing, but this makes the game almost unplayable. It's unpredictable, unfair, and annoying. Even worse, sometimes you may have to use 4-8 balls to catch a simple Pidgey or Weedle, and they may still run after that. Also, the amount of supplies you get at Pokestops just does not equal the amount of balls you'll be using to catch these things. So, why not just be selective and not catch every Pidgey you say? Well, then how are you supposed to level up? See, Niantic designed it in a way where once they got you addicted, you WILL have to end up spending money eventually. They know what they did. They made the Pokemon run more, so you'll run out of balls, and have to buy more. After all, you want to level up more, don't you? It's a joke.

Speaking of leveling up, after say level 20, it becomes a chore. You ALWAYS get 100 experience points per Pokemon caught DESPITE the fact that as you grow in level, you need more and more experience points to level up. In any good RPG, you earn more experience points as you fight harder enemies and progress in the game. However, here, you get the same experience points whether you catch a 100 CP Pidgey or a 876 Scyther. Imagine how many Pokemon you have to catch to level up from 23 to 24 when you still only get 100 experience points per Pokemon and you need 150,000. Imagine yourself sitting on a bench for 8 hours throwing hundreds of balls and catching hundreds of the same Pokemon over and over everyday. Sounds fun? Don't waste your time and money. It's not worth it. Did Niantic ever play another RPG before?

There is no way to tell what is nearby. How can you zero in on certain Pokemon when there's no way to tell where they are? That Nearby List in the corner is completely wrong and useless. It's just a random roll of the dice what shows up. They wrecked the very core essence of the game. I honestly caught better Pokemon just staying home rather than going out and hunting them, wherever they are.

The amount of Pidgeys and Ratattas that show up is just laughable. Would it have killed them to have a little more variety? Again, I'm torn between wasting balls on them to level up or just putting the phone down and not bothering.

The way the gyms are structured is terrible. The gym battles themselves aren't the problem. It's the fact that sometimes you'll have to beat a gym five, six, or even seven times to claim it. Are you kidding? You didn't have to do that in the Game Boy games. No one wants to sit there and do the same battle you already won six more times. Couldn't they come up with a better system? What happened to badges? Also, good luck owning a gym for more than an hour before someone takes it, or worse, someone could be standing right next to it ready to take it over after you win. There's no way to stop that.

    Overall:

I think what frustrates a lot of people is the lack of respect Niantic is showing for a franchise like Pokemon and it's players. They shouldn't have released this game until a lot of the complaints people have been saying were addressed. I believe this game is here to stay, however, and I can only hope for a better experience with Generation Two and future updates.

    - Relatively simple to learn and not overly complicated.

    Cons:
    - Lack of gameplay depth (battles are solely against AI and involve just tapping on the screen; only 2 moves per Pokemon; lack of features present from the main Pokemon games) mixed with an endless and meaningless grind (you literally need to catch over a hundred magikarp to get your first Gyarados and literally thousands of Pokemon just to get your trainer level to the mid-20s --- FOR WHAT PURPOSE, exactly? To get the strongest Pokemon that will just get defeated in 30 minutes by the swarm of little kids invading your gym?)
    - NO CONSISTENT SUPPORT from the developer, Niantic. For the first 3 weeks after the game's launch, there was radio silence from Niantic with some launch-day features actually being REMOVED (not added!)
    - Relatively useless if sitting at home with no in-app purchases & useless for a lot of rural players that have no pokestops, gyms, or rare Pokemon spawns.
    - Lack of tutorial or guidance for newcomers that can make it daunting to start your adventure. In a way, this mirrors the usual lack of guidance or support from Niantic.

    Final Verdict:
DO: Download it, make a GOOD username (choose carefully) and give it a try by casually including it in your daily commute.

    DO NOT: Buy microtransactions because
    a) This is an average/mediocre app at best
    b) Lack of support or features by Niantic means that you'll probably be requesting a refund shortly after your purchase.

This app gets people outside, it encourages social interaction, and it has caused many to get exercise they would otherwise have avoided. That's the good side.
    Now, the bad side.
To start with, the game often freezes. It's a battery hog. It often has server issues. And those are the minor points.
Much worse, is that there is no limit on the number of pokemon caught per minute. This has caused the game (which is, in fact, a massive multiplayer game) to be overwhelmed by botters who are griping on the bot sites that they are being teleport restricted to less that 50 per minute! And, to be utterly factual here, there is no possible way to prevent cooperation between apps on Android, that's what the OS is designed to promote. Literally, to actually stop all botting would be to break the OS. Bad idea.
To cap off that stunning bit of stupidity, they created the usual "high leveling curve" found in MMO's with cash shops. This means that botters get a HUGE advantage over regular players, because regular players cannot play 24/7. Therefore, you have botters making level 33 (couple of million XP) in three days or so, and dominating the gyms. That's a HUGE problem that Xiantic is essentially ignoring. It's been my belief for many years now that a certain amount of botting in MMO's is tolerated to encourage non cheats to use the cash store to catch up.
And now, the worst part. This game is inherently unfair. By design. IF (and few seem to be doing so) you play by the TOS, then you are to go outside and walk to find pokemon. If you are disabled, unhealthy or otherwise impaired, then you cannot play under the TOS. Disabled vets need not apply. Moreover, they brought out this game with pokemon concentrated in cities, the larger the city the better, rather than in rural areas. Ashe was a fool, he should have stayed in the big city rather than walking the countryside to find pokemon! So farm kids, rural kids, people anywhere outside a major city should just give it up right now. On top of that, icing on the cake as it were, these designers decided that pokestops would be at "points of interest". I'll admit they are trying to fix that, as quite a few have popped up in my region that were not there at first - though you would have thought a US Navy base with decades of history behind it would have had a pokestop at the entrances! Or maybe the National Guard Armory? Those MIGHT be of equal interest to a few parks? Or two dozen other places I could have named? This, at least, they are fixing.
Even the idiots at Niantic should be able to do simple math. Try this, a pokemon per minute, using magic lucky eggs from the cash shop every time (expensive!) plus playing 8 hours per day (like a job - and carrying a dozen phone batteries with you) plus hitting every pokestop, plus evolving or hatching every pokemon in that time - that gives a maximum number for how much XP one could collect. Do the calculation, you get 3 million XP (give or take) since launch. EVERYONE dominating gyms has more than that. Level 34 would require something like 3 and a half million XP. That's simply impossible even with double XP from lucky eggs. Yet thousands of 30 + players (you can see their level in gym information) have filled up the game. At a guess, over 300,000 - as that's how many bots have been downloaded from a single bot site. There are many bot sites. In Singapore, the game was released this week. Singapore players are screaming about level 33 to 35 botters dominating every gym.
On top of all this, Niantic is incompetent. This week they decided they'd magically stop remote botters by requiring a sim card. Did they even check the app development kit for God's sake? There's a PC emulator included for app development, the same one they are using, which includes sim card emulation, just enter a phone number. Now people, that's total incompetence, not even looking at your own tools. So now I can't play on my eight inch android tablet with my cell in my pocket doing it's WIFI thing, oh no, have to play on the gadget with shorter battery life! Can't use the car WIFI, my God, that's cheating or something! I've seen this before, and I'll say now, bail out before it's too late, because incompetent game designers will drive you insane before they drive you away.
To sum up, a decent concept spoiled by no consideration of ANYTHING before launch. You have to wonder who or what was on this design team, and if they have any experience at ALL with the real world. It was obvious and self evident that this game, as an MMO, would be subject to bots. To allow bots to rule utterly was stupid. To allow people to continue to play while catching more than 2 or 3 pokemon per minute or with crazy XP totals is absurd. Limit XP per day, per hour, toss people with stupid numbers. They are doing none of that.

Aside from catching Pokémon with Pokéballs it lacks all the essential mechanics of a Pokémon title including building a team, training up Pokémon, choosing skill sets, battling Pokémon, dueling with other trainers, puzzles, etc. Though Niantic can clearly make a complex augmented reality game (see Ingress) they have stripped away both the complexities of their earlier title and of the Pokémon titles, essentially just creating a Pokémon mini-game. They have taken a simple but massively popular game of rock/paper/scissors and turned it into a coin flipping contest designed to compel you to pay for micro-transactions. Add to all this that their servers hardly let you connect and this is equivalent to an early access beta release with a lot of work still to go for a viable product launch.

If you were looking for the next step in multi-player interactive gaming or Pokémon games (or both) this is not what you will find.

If anything due to the lack of planned updates, market-growth-first rollout plan, and inevitable end of playability when the weather gets worse this really seems like a stunt to just get people interested in Pokémon again.

    - small towns barely have pokestops and gyms if any.
    - spawn locations are awful
    - Battle mechanics are worse than ****
    - Can't explore much due to trespassing
    - Exploring is boring due to pokemon only showing up in cities
    - Not having a clue where to look for them unlike in the actual games where some tails would pop up and you could sneak up on them
    - Doesn't take skill only luck in where you live or the locations of your house

All and all niantic sucks at having any kind of concept on how pokemon is meant to be. This is what happens when you don't let Nintendo and game freak have more saying in what should be put in it. I honestly don't care about walking around the actual world to find them. I like the idea of making the character walk around in a fictional world. Where you still use gps or step counts to move your character around. Just you wont have to go to such desperate lengths to hunt one down. This game kills the pokemon spirit and makes it some dried out half ass version of what it truly means to be a trainer. You don't win battles due to your own strength and level. You win battles due to your pokemon, they teach you and you teach them. Not you teach them and they just take your candy and have no ability to interact with them.

These are the only reasons I can think of that anyone could be negative about this game:

    1. They live in a rural area, which is kind of understandable 2.They're expecting some sort of tactical RPG like the main Pokemon games (which IMO are just rehashes of each other that Nintendo churn out with a slightly different coat of paint each time to make bucket-loads of money) 3.There may

3.There may be a bug or glitch that is making their game act out
4.They're just giving it a bad score because they just hate Pokemon and don't like fun

For everyone else this game is a blast

The game is no longer fun because there is no way to track pokemon. Bored and not willing to put in the effort for rattatas, pidgeys, and weedles. Finding anything else is next to impossible since the update.

This game combines two things I love and devoted a large portion of my life to: Pokemon and Ingress. While you would expect a rocky launch to any big name title I feel like they really dropped the ball with pokemon go and have made many questionable decisions since. In its current state to all but the most devoted pokemon fans I would say you're better off the far more boring predecessor ingress since at least its 3rd party sites are still allowed. I and many others will continue to play pokemon go but as of today 7/31/2016 I would say your better off waiting. Expand

This game is gonna go one of two ways, dependent entirely upon Niantic. If they support and expand it in the many many many ways that they very easily can, it will become a staple game for years to come. If they decide they're fat and happy with the money they've made already and update slowly or not at all, it will stagnate and be dead within 6 months. You don’t even have to like Pokémon to enjoy Pokémon Go. During the previous year, Pokémon Go has tuned its ideas and it’s now even more original and addictive. This is a one-of-a-kind game.

Improvements and additions over time – including the Raid-style events for catching legendary Pokémon, as teased in the original trailer – as well as ongoing tweaks to fundamental systems stand to improve Pokémon Go as a game, but the quality (and novelty) of the experience of playing, particularly as part of a group, is already there. Go could still one day be the legendary game its immense potential hints at.
