Jul 12, 2016Once I’m actually playing, I have a ball with this, because it is, in a very real sense, a cultural phenomenon. Never has a game managed to get people to flock over to specific areas of town like birds to seed. People point to it being too simple as a game, but really the game bit is barely relevant. What is relevant is that this game has people out and about, socialising and exploring. There’s a group experience event going on with Pokemon Go, and it’s addictive to simply be part of the collective.
-
Jun 2, 2018You don’t even have to like Pokémon to enjoy Pokémon Go. During the previous year, Pokémon Go has tuned its ideas and it’s now even more original and addictive. This is a one-of-a-kind game.

CD-ActionSep 17, 2016The best mobile game I have ever played. [09/2016, p.66]
-
Jul 7, 2016Pokémon GO isn't perfect, but its sense of nostalgia and pure excitement are unparallelled.
-
Jul 22, 2016Pokemon GO is already the best thing from 2016. Although the game has some server issues, once these problems are resolved the hype will probably continue. Thanks to limitless possibilities in add ons of Pokemon and features.
-
Jul 20, 2016Pokémon Go is unlike anything else I've ever played, and for that reason alone I implore you to play it. I'm not sure it will keep the current momentum, but for now it feels really good.
-
Jul 18, 2016Pokémon tries to go real with an innovative formula. The pokémon creatures goes real and challenge players to explore their own city to become a true Pokémon Master. Niantic and The Pokémon Company needs to focus in their content to bring new challenges for all the Pokémon enthusiasts in the near future.
-
Jul 13, 2016Despite its initial problems, Pokémon Go is an absurdly addictive and approachable game. Chances are you can go out on your lunch break and see people playing at this very moment. After staying out of the smartphone game market for years, Nintendo has finally jumped in headfirst and scored an absolute hit.
-
Jul 12, 2016An amazing game. I would even dare to say that it is an amazing social experience. The idea of traveling, meeting new trainers and catch pokemons everywhere is simply too good to be true. Cannot wait to play it even more, I've never been so eager to go grocery shopping.
-
Jul 11, 2016At this moment Pokemon Go is still plagued by bugs and server issues, but behind it all is a very special game. This year there will be nothing that compares to Pokemon Go.
-
Jul 11, 2016Every Pokémon fan's dream is finally true: get ready to go out to hunt all the little monsters all around your town in AR. The game isn't perfect, but it’s a very promising (and fun) beginning.

Games Master UKSep 6, 2016How do you review a revolution? [Sept 2016, p.84]
-
Jul 19, 2016Pokemon Go is not a great game. Some important features are missing and bugs are way too frequent. Still, the social implications of Niantic's app are impressive. This game has changed forever the augmented reality market and reshaped the mobile gaming landscape.
-
Jul 14, 2016Despite its problems, Pokémon Go is something that I’m going to be playing for a long time to come (I mean, I have to catch ’em all, right?). Go has a solid base, and if Niantic can sustain and cultivate the community and Go as a platform, it has real potential. And by that measure alone, it’s quite a success, even if it still has a lot of room left to grow.
-
Jul 14, 2016Pokémon Go is fun. It’s just a beginning, but I can’t put it down. It’s free, and what you can spend money on can also be earned in the game easily. If you’re into this sort of thing, if hunting down fake digital monsters in the real world with friends or alone sounds fun, then try it. You may be disappointed in the combat, but the real world adventures are worth the data plan overages.
-
Jul 14, 2016Right now Pokémon Go is in a fascinating position, a cultural artifact whose power and pervasiveness is impossible to ignore, even if you're not playing it. Is it good? That's a complicated question that's going to change depending on how much you value a game's mechanical depth versus the unique social experience it provides. But in a week of playing it, we've been all smiles while doing so. For now, that's enough.
-
Sep 14, 2016Improvements and additions over time – including the Raid-style events for catching legendary Pokémon, as teased in the original trailer – as well as ongoing tweaks to fundamental systems stand to improve Pokémon Go as a game, but the quality (and novelty) of the experience of playing, particularly as part of a group, is already there. Go could still one day be the legendary game its immense potential hints at.
-
Jul 24, 2016Using intelligent AR, straightforward controls and that uncontrollable itch to “Catch ’em all”, Niantic have got the building blocks to something really special. To keep this momentum going fresh updates and major improvements to servers are crucial.
-
Jul 18, 2016This game is a worldwide phenomenon, which says a great deal about how much the fans love Pokémon. The technical issues and the shallow gameplay should have already killed the app, but instead the geocaching and AR make this a social adventure that we will definitely be playing for a long time to come.
-
Jul 17, 2016It’s exciting to think of what Pokémon GO could become and if you haven’t downloaded it already, do it. It’s free, there are no ads and even people who don’t know what Pokémon are have been having a good time with it.
-
Jul 17, 2016Pokémon GO is a dream come true for generations of players, but something is still missing. You can't exchange pokémon or challenge your friends and there are a lot of technical issues. However, Pokémon GO is an enjoyable social experience and it would become a must have with the right improvements.
-
Jul 15, 2016Ingress’ creators have mixed their geolocation concept with the Pokemon franchise that has been the social revolution of this summer. However, it still has a lot of technical issues that hide its great potential.
-
Jul 14, 2016It's not perfect, but it is special. Pokémon Go uses a set of simple but functional mechanics to encourage social play and actual exercise. You won't love it purely for the game (if battling with friends is introduced that may well change) but what the game inspires is absolutely part of its success. I've gone on walks with friends purely to catch Pokémon in the real world. My eight-year-old self would have exploded if you told him that would one day be a reality.
-
Jul 13, 2016Pokemon Go’s strengths can’t hide the fact that its initial iteration is a buggy mess on all levels, from server and potential security issues to invisible trainers.
-
Jul 12, 2016Right now, Pokemon Go is an incredible, can’t-miss social experience — like Pokemon is actually real and everyone is on board — but its RPG mechanics and combat don’t have nearly enough depth to support itself in the long term.
-
Jul 11, 2016Features can be added, bugs can be squashed, and eventually, everyone is going to be able to play Pokemon GO without any trouble. The things it already does well, like mashing up the world of pocket monsters with the more mundane reality we occupy, and not so subtly telling us to get out there and walk around, it already has down pat.
-
Aug 18, 2016As a game, Pokémon GO is weak at it's best. But as a social phenomenon, it knows no limits. They make us believe that we must catch them all... But it is they who've captured us.
-
Aug 17, 2016I'm a hardcore pokemon fan and it pains me to admit that Pokemon GO is an unfinished product that still requires some work. It's hard to fairly grade such a social phenomenon so soon, especially when it can provide real fun. Walking around your own city, meeting other players and pokemon is really cool but right now Pokemon GO is just a good idea that has not reached its full potential.
-
Sep 13, 2016Pokémon GO isn't really good in communication with players, does not run smoothly and an additional content is necessary. It's a mix of augmented reality and the desire to catch all the popular Pokémon, however, provides a pleasant feeling of discovery, you hardly get anywhere else.
-
Jul 15, 2016Pokémon Go is slim on the gameplay and the app itself has severe issues that need to be fixed, but the experience of getting out there and playing the game is great. Pokémon Go and the general love of Pokémon is giving people a chance to connect with each other and have fun. It has issues, but Pokémon Go is still worth the hunt.
-
Jul 13, 2016Pokémon Go is a surreal experience, and you wonder when the coolness of all this will wear off. But it’s a decidedly Nintendo experience too, steeped in solid gaming fundamentals that should help it maintain a hold on a vast part of its currently massive audience.
-
Jul 12, 2016An innovative formula can't save the new Pokémon craze from inherently shallow gameplay
-
Jul 21, 2016Despite technical faults and chronically strained servers, Pokémon Go managed not only to spark my initial curiosity but kept me motivated – in its weird, strange way that defies all gaming definitions.
-
Jul 13, 2016Despite being a pedestrian and uninspiring experience, it’s still conquered the hearts and minds of millions, and while I don’t know why, I’m still firing the thing up every time my dog goes out to take a shit, because there could be an Ekans out there.
-
Jul 12, 2016This location-based Pokémon game does the bare minimum in the Pokémon and game departments, but somehow creates some appeal nonetheless.
-
Jul 12, 2016To put it bluntly, Pokémon Go is not good as a game. Until it gets updates which iron out kinks and offer content promised in early trailers, such as trading Pokémon, group battles, or even just more interesting combat, this isn’t likely to change.
-
Jul 13, 2016So we've got a game that I don't enjoy from any angle (which sucks), but it's also dominating the cultural conversation right now (which is great). I'm torn on this one, honestly! See, I don't recommend Pokémon Go the video game. But I can't get enough of Pokémon Go the cultural artifact. It's a Videodrome-esque obsession, and I'm very disappointed in how excited I am to play my part. Long live the new flesh.
