Apr 4, 2012A unique game. Not when it comes to gameplay, but the style is refreshing and fun. Story is good, characters are interesting and level design is great.
Solid gameplay and a nice 'comic book' presentation make for an exciting FPS adventure.
Also, local splitscreen is a lot of fun. -
JustinS.Feb 16, 2004The story is deep, the action is quick, the enemies are challenging but not impossible, and the half graphic novel, half noir presentation NEVER gets boring.

JohnL.Dec 20, 2003Its a beautiful looking game but that quickly wears off as your shot down by remarkably accurate ai.....The levels are too far in between save points and the game quickly gets boring.

CubeoidJan 10, 2004I've been looking for a FPS for awhile and this managed to suffice despite some annoying glitches.

ChrisW.Jan 1, 2004Not impressive to look at to be honest. neither did i stick at finishing the game as its pretty average and lost appeal in the same day i got it home. i would say im a FPS fan, NOT WORTH BUYING.

KaimApr 14, 2004Brilliant. Immersing story line, fanstastic graphics and sound. Only frustruting when trying to navigate damn ladders. I hate ladders... Oh, ..and the people that find it boring, are the ones who aren't very good at it.;)

ProfessorFrinkDec 2, 2003A good idea, but didn't really take off. The levels are too big and the cartoon look makes depth perception impossible so it took me an hour to retrace my steps in one level. This would be much cooler as a realistic FPS.

May 20, 2013XIII has a very good story line, good cel shade graphics, good controls, and a good list of weapons. The difficulty is pretty good even though some of levels are tougher than others. But I didn't care for the multi-player mode because the weapons that's used in the multi-player mode is dependent on the map that's picked. XIII is an overall good game.

Edge MagazineSeeing the game from beginning to end reveals its true artistic merit: it never gets stale; every episode has been drawn with minute care and attention. It would have been an incredible achievement if the gameplay had matched the outstanding art direction. [Dec 2003, p.94]

Problem is, the missions are largely cookie-cutter (do tasks like "destroy four generators without being spotted" sound familiar?) and lack the thrill found in similarly themed games, like "GoldenEye 007" (N64). Worse yet, your opponents are unbelievably excellent shots who almost never miss.

games(TM)It's one of those mixed-bag situations - flashes of genius and genuinely enjoyable moments of success, occasionally mired by unbalanced weapon damage, clumsy AI and the odd bit of unfair level design that requires astounding feats of memory. [Dec 2003, p.98]
