While the fantastic Worms formula stays intact here, it becomes infinitely more difficult to gauge distances, wind, and all that in 3D. For that reason alone, I can't recommend this one over its 2D predecessors. [Apr 2004, p.116]
-
Nintendo PowerThe game is every bit as charming and addictive as its predecessors. [May 2004, p.120]
-
Edge MagazineSingleplayer is weak - despite well-worked tutorial and mission modes it always feels like target practice for combat with friends - and the lack of online support disappoints. But despite a potentially hazardous dimensional switch, it remains as appealing a way of antagonising your friends as ever. [Dec 2003, p.108]
-
I think I prefer the 2D battlefield to the 3D one just because it seems to be all around more intuitive.
-
Play MagazineUse of certain weapons and locomotion across the map can be cumbersome, and the game just doesn't have that same pendulum energy of before in the fights. [Apr 2004, p.64]
-
The hit or miss of long-range weapons is a back breaker, especially in the single player against a computer opponent that knows how to judge everything perfectly.
-
Cheat Code CentralThere are some technical bugs, specifically the camera angles and perspectives, that spoil some of the fun but overall Worms 3D is in the ballpark - even if it's just standing in line to use the washroom.
-
If you dig its goofy sense of humor, or if you're a fan of previous Worms games, you might find something to like once you get past the 3D-induced flaws.
