    Your best bet here is to wait until the Monster House movie is released on DVD. With extras, it'll probably be about as long as the game and you and your kids won't have to put up with design problems or frustrating controls.

    Excellent atmosphere notwithstanding, this third-person action game is hobbled by tedious combat and a number of dubious design problems.

    Knowing THQ could have done worse isn't a glowing compliment though, and at forty bucks and four hours, the little side-scrolling mini-game included (played by spending tokens you find in the main game) and lame unlockables add no real value.

    I was expecting your typical licenced crap but this was a very competent game, the graphics are really good although there a few textures hereI was expecting your typical licenced crap but this was a very competent game, the graphics are really good although there a few textures here and there that I'm sure shouldn't have been there, the sound design is amazing and adds a lot to the already cinematic presentation of the game.

    The game also has some minor boss fights, as well as a final boss fight which is very easy once you know the pattern.

    However, it still has some flaws. By the time you reach the middle of the campaign the game becomes a wave-based run and gun. The developers also added some QTE sequences to artificially elongate the length of the game. I'm sure these were added du to time constraints.

    Mind you, this game can be beaten in about 4-5 hours. To compensate for this, the developers added "Thou Art Dead", the arcade game that appears in the movie. I think this is a nice touch.

    All in all, if you want to kill an afternoon and happen to find this game for cheap, I say it's worth playing.    … Full Review »
