A battery save would have been the icing on this otherwise delicious six-layer cake. However, even without it, Arcade Advanced is an excellent example of how a retro compilation should be done.
-
Konami didn't cheap out and quickly port six games to the system. They actually went the extra mile and included extras that gamers will enjoy discovering.
-
The selection in this game compilation is strong. There are no fillers included here and some of the more advanced titles (Rush'n Attack, Yie Ar Kung Fu) could be repackaged all by themselves.
-
The ability to play as Chain, Buchu, Star, Blues, and the rest of the Yie Ar Kung-Fu gang is enough on its own to make this cart a must-have.
-
Game InformerThe one problem I have with this package, overall, is that high scores aren't kept when you turn the GBA off. [June 2002, p.87]
-
Nintendo PowerEach one plays with a distinct style that's hard to get bored of. [May 2002, p.142]
-
Doing the classic Konami trick (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A) on the title screen of each game will yield a surprise.
-
This one is just for the old-schoolers who want to remember when gaming was a niche and not a business.
-
Play MagazineAh the sweet tinge of nostalgia. It was thick with this one. [April 2002, p.66]
-
On a purely technical level, the collection is rock-solid, with graphics, sound, and gameplay that are generally accurate to their arcade counterparts.
