With simple level design and enemy AI that is so dumbed down that it is virtually nonexistent, Ecks vs. Sever doesn't pose much of a threat in the difficulty department.
-
It is far from perfect, with the lack of battery saving, the lack of in game music and not being able to keep the weapons collected in a level. However, good graphics and well executed play mechanics keep it above mediocrity.
-
Unlike so many games today on the market, Ecks Versus Sever has the crucial gameplay part down, but drops the ball on the extra amenities and comes off like caviar on the inside, but Fillet-O-Fish on the outside.
-
All of this adds up to a game that is, by turns, compelling and frustrating, innovative and derivative. At the final bell, there is little in qualitative terms to separate Ecks vs. Sever and "Doom."
-
With its unique setup and variety of multiplayer modes, Ecks vs. Sever is a title worth checking out.
-
Game InformerA far cry from "Doom." The textures are even blockier and the effects entirely lackluster. [Dec 2001, p.118]
-
The GBA wasnt designed to handle this type of game, and trying to force the matter gets you a sub par game.

Apr 28, 2023A fair stab at an FPS that doesn't have much depth and is far too easy but is playable enough. The Doom games are far better though.
