Transformers on the DS is a fun and challenging game and surprisingly superior to the lackluster effort on the PSP.
-
The game is leaps and bounds beyond the original, and the Battle for Earth mode is truly one of the most addictive distractions I have experienced in a DS game this year.
-
The finished product has its issues, but at the very least, it's a satisfying action game and represents the Transformers well.
-
A linear, mission-based action game which is best suited for Transformers fans – although not necessarily younger ones. As far as movie tie-ins go it’s not too shabby.
-
Some decent variety, but a lot of bugs can bog the experience down.
-
Nintendo PowerThis may be the first time in video game history that a licensed DS title far exceeds the movie it's based on. [Sept 2009, p.90]
-
All of this makes for a meaty package, but the gameplay does feel repetitive and unfair at times. Revenge of the Fallen is clearly meant for big fans of the license, but is still a solid game on its own.
-
The core gameplay is rather uninspired but works well enough, the visuals and audio are both mixed bags, and the campaign is a decent enough length but never really offers a great sense of accomplishment.
-
Though the game moves in a completely linear fashion, with quite a few missions that aren't very enjoyable to run through, there are other elements of the game that are admittedly compelling and addictive.
-
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on DS is a whole lot better than the terrible movie and a decent action game in its own right. The online Battle for Earth mode offers new content for months to come, but don’t be tricked into buying both the autobots and decepticons versions of the game—they’re basically the same thing with a different coat of paint.
-
Nintendo GamerWe know the subject matter is huge robots thumping other huge robots, but it doesn't have to be as mindless as this. [Sept 2009, p.67]
-
But if you’re not a huge fan of the existing franchise, there’s not much here to make it worth your while.
