An exciting adventure that will keep the hack and slasher in you pleased for a very long time.
  2. A straightforward hack-and-slash adventure, and not a very clever one at that.
  3. The downer is that DMC doesn't support one cart play, so each player will have to own their own copy of the game.
  4. The single-mindedness of the gameplay makes it easy to get into, but in the long term, the game has less to offer.
  5. Not quite polished enough to be awarded pieces of eight, nevertheless Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest will happily buckle your swashes.

Three simple touch-controlled minigames add variety, but not enough to give a shine to this lackluster effort. [Aug 2006, p.87]

Actual play is a letdown. Moving between alleyways and tropical isles, you'll endlessly hack away at zombies, natives, vultures, villagers, and guards, each a carbon copy of the next. Sadly, such brain-dead enemies prove little challenge, overwhelming through sheer numbers, not ingenuity.

Sure there are tons of moves and combos to unlock, but the enemies don't require any of these earned skills, which sort of defeats the purpose of seeking them out.

Fails to keep your attention for longer than a few meager hours. This is too bad, as this license has personality to spare that could've made this a must-own.
  10. Though Dead Man's Chest is largely competent, the sword fighting is too repetitive and the minigames are too few and too bland to get anyone particularly excited.
  11. Other than the painful boredom, there's nothing overtly wrong with the game, and the co-op mode might be of use to fans of the film, along with unlockable art, characters and weapons.

I remember the first level so well as I played it so many times- the prisoner fortress level is probably its best as it has quite a dark atmosphere and is very immersive. Although the combat is so basic, it was still quite a fun linear game as there was so many different locations and quite a few different enemies. I wouldn't replay it but its a decent childhood game. Yes the DS really wasn't the best console for movie adaptations but at least they were enough to entertain me as a child.
