Minecraft New 3DS edition is exactly what you expect, it's fun and creative like any other platform of Minecraft but portable. Even so, this version of Minecraft is still enjoyable, I don't need maps, the controls are fine and adjustable, no lag, and it doesn't look like a downgraded version of Minecraft at all. So if you want to have Minecraft on the go, the new 3DS edition is acceptable, or the Switch edition is also option. Expand

Since the 1.3 update, Minecraft on the N3DS is a much more complete game than it was at launch. It now has the Wither and ocean monuments / elder guardians, making it equivalent to Pocket Edition Alpha 0.16.2. More recently, update 1.4 even added a local multiplayer option. It's true that the N3DS Edition will not receive the Better Together Update. It's true that the N3DS Edition will not receive the Better Together Update. However, as much as I do love Bedrock, the BTU isn't exactly a critical update as far as key core features go. As for the game itself, it does have a low draw distance and some framerate issues, performing a bit worse than Java overall. However, it is still very playable. It does lack the ability to load in custom skins. It comes with several skin packs to help make up for this, however. What I enjoy most about the N3DS edition is that it's a truly portable Minecraft edition that doesn't rely on touch controls or drain the battery of your primary communication device, as Bedrock (formerly Pocket Edition) does on phones. The Switch is technically portable, but too large to fit in a pocket or purse, making it a poor substitute for on-the-go Minecrafting. Perhaps the most unique feature of this edition is a free and constantly-visible map, with coordinates, on the bottom screen. With the lower draw distance, this is essential for not getting lost, as the worlds aren't quite as small here as they were in legacy console editions. This is a great edition to buy if you have a N3DS (or N2DS) and want to play Minecraft on the go, but dislike the touch controls of PE or your phone isn't beefy enough to handle it. Expand

It's basically Pocket Edition on a 3DS. And it has buttons. (You can only use this on the NEW 3DS) I'm glad Nintendo added the ZR and ZL buttons to 3DS.

The Minecraft on the new 3ds handheld consoles are great!!! They keep me occupied unlike some of the other games i have for the 3ds. The only thing i dont like is that it is not like the minecraft for iOS. It doesnt have things like fireworks. I never saw a single enderman in survival. There also isnt online multiplayer. The animal and enemy cap of 24 is way too low for regular play. TheThe Minecraft on the new 3ds handheld consoles are great!!! They keep me occupied unlike some of the other games i have for the 3ds. small. 2016x2016 chunks is not a lot of space compared to near infinite on the other editions of minecraft. Otherwise this is a good game. Worth your money. 10/10

The fact that it’s only on the new 3ds blows my mind Minecraft fans that have the 2ds and old 3ds and xl systems are missing out if they added circle pad pro support. Minecraft: New 3DS is a good game. There are those who will say unto you that because the "phone" version is cheaper and runs smoother, its better. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Minecraft for the 3DS? Cool, but not as good as other editions. This is ridiculous.

While it is HEAVILY compromised, the fact that Minecraft can run on the 3DS at all is both hilarious and somewhat impressive. It's probably the worst version of the game on a technical level, but it is still Minecraft, and as such remains quite enjoyable.

Minecraft 3ds is a very special title to me, as the 3ds is my favorite console of all time and having Minecraft on it was a dream, so when i saw the 2017 Nintendo direct and mc3ds was then released the same day I was overjoyed finally able to play one of my fav games on my fav console

so the gameplay is well Minecraft , it will lag in some areas as it is on the 3ds but its still over

so the gameplay is well Minecraft , it will lag in some areas as it is on the 3ds but its still over all enjoyable and is my fav way to play on the go also the first game I've really done achievement hunting in i got them all (reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft3DS/comments/krh3qb/after_80_hrs_all_minecraft_3ds_achievements/ ) not super worth but definitely was fun and challenging over all recommend mc3ds if you love your 3ds and you want Minecraft for it, I personally give it 10/10 though that's pretty biased for me personally so Ill give it the fair rating of 8/10

The first version of Minecraft that got me to do everything legit for the achievements, you'll love this game if you like Minecraft and love your 3ds, this is my fav way to play on the go

The 3DS version is ok. You can do some features of regular Minecraft, but it can be laggy at times. The graphics are worse, too. Also, the game seems to crash a lot. To be honest, just play it on another system.

This game is very bad. It is too slow and empty. The building is boring because the graphics are cubes but good looking. Play anything else.

As someone who's played every version of Minecraft to date, this New 3DS edition is the one I'm going to come back to the least. [Issue #31 – January/February 2018, p. 28E]

Minecraft New 3DS Edition isn’t a bad game at all—at its core it’s still the same brilliantly addictive creativity sandbox. That said, its complete lack of multiplayer and the availability of the vastly superior Nintendo Switch version for the same price unfortunately makes Minecraft on 3DS functionally obsolete.

We suspect that some will purchase Minecraft for the New 3DS for the sake of having it on every platform, but it’s hard to see the audience that would buy this version instead of any of the superior versions available on other platforms, including both the Wii U and the Switch. While the 3DS’s touch screen does add some convenience, the trade-offs made to fit such a large game onto the New 3DS create a notable deficit. If you don’t have another platform on which to play Minecraft, New 3DS Edition is a good way to test the waters and sample the solo experience, but there’s so much more that this game has to offer elsewhere.
