Overall, Mario & Sonic Rio 2016 Olympic Games feels like many of the event based games that came before it: full of events, but shallow in substance. The lack of an online multiplayer mode, and the inability to play as any Mario or Sonic character in any event makes this entry in the Mario & Sonic games a bore.

Acceptable fodder for undemanding children, but wasting such an epic crossover on such a non-event of a game has never seemed more perverse.

Mario & Sonic at Rio 2016 Olympic Games on the 3DS is a disappointing collection of hastily cobbled together minigames. There's some fleeting fun to be had, but most of its sporting disciplines are an exercise in repetitive drudgery.

The game itself isn't bad, but it's not a stellar one either. For every thing done right, another thing is done wrong. Being the first gameThe game itself isn't bad, but it's not a stellar one either. For every thing done right, another thing is done wrong. Being the first game since the first Winter Olympics game to introduce new characters, the cast of playable characters is great. However a set group of characters are limited to certain events, with each returning character only being playable in two events each (except Mario and Sonic) while every new character is only playable in one event each (except the Mii). The story mode is easy to play and is pretty okay to play through, but it is pretty short and most of the time it feels like you aren't progressing through a plot, it feels like your just there to play events. It makes you forget that there even is a plot going on sometimes. Overall, I would say that this game is pretty much just like the other handheld installments; it's not the greatest game out there, but it is playable and can be enjoyable at times. Full Review »

This is a good game. Not the Best in the M&S Series but still great. The graphics are outstanding for the 3DS. I still have not yet played allThis is a good game. Not the Best in the M&S Series but still great. The graphics are outstanding for the 3DS. I still have not yet played all the Events/Sports in the Game but my favourites are Boxing, Football (Soccer), BMX, and a few more. The character selection though, is what messes up this game. Contenders? Are you serious? That is the only thing that ruins the game. Road to Rio is pretty fun and Pocket Marathon is awesome. Win stuff just for walking. I got A LOOOOOOOT of steps when I was visiting my Family in Tokyo because I would take my 3DS Everywhere, Tokyo is where I walk a lot. Whenever I'm out in the streets, or taking pictures or videos of trains, I win stuff at the same time. The costumes and outfits look amazing, although my Mii can't fit most of them, I just bought them anyway because they looked cool especially the Koopalings! Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (M&S Rio 2016) is a good game and I would recommend it. Really fun. Although I do wish Soccer was a little faster, I've been playing quite a bit of Super Mario Strikers on the GameCube as well, so sometimes I do mess up but that is okay. I tend to score anyway.
