Although I hope her next adventure stands on its own a little more, Katrielle has proven herself worthy of the Layton name, and then some. [Issue #31 – January/February 2018, p. 27E]

While the story leaves a little to be desired, Layton’s Mystery still makes for an enjoyable entry into the puzzling series. A likable cast of characters persists despite featuring an entirely new crew and the ending manages to hint at a continuation for the series branching off from this title with a plot to draw players in. Those new to the series can easily hop in without needing to have knowledge of the previous stories, but it does make some welcome nods to previous endeavors Layton has gone through. Any puzzle fan should dive right into this title when they get the chance and look forward to what Layton’s Mystery Journey brings next.

While the storytelling is sub-par for Layton standards, the puzzle design is what you can expect from the long running franchise.

Laytons daughter is a fun addition to this beautifully designed series, but she does talk a lot. Thankfully there are many puzzles to distract you from that.

Yet another Layton game. This game with new characters like Lady Layton plays exactly like you expect it from a Layton game. It is very humorous, got awesome puzzles and there are a lot of new cases to explore. It just misses an overwhelming story.

Not many surprises here, but Layton's returns is still as entertaining as always. If you've enjoyed the series in the past, there's no reason why you shouldn't play this one.

A bright and breezy reboot that sticks with the same blend of tricky puzzles and charming animation.

The Layton formula is still working great, with more puzzles than ever, a new main character and the London setting. After ten years, though, the storyline is not as good as previous games, and puzzle design is not as imaginative.

There's nothing new compared to the original smartphone versione, but It still works pretty well and will make the fans happy.

I enjoyed my time with Layton's Mystery Journey. The puzzles and investigative work are enjoyable as usual, but that special sauce from previous Layton titles has been left out. The stage for a grander mystery is nowhere to be seen and the game stumbles to find its identity. That being said, the scenes found here are highly replayable and offer additional content if you decide to return. All of this results in a game that can be picked by anyone, but Layton's fans will need time to adapt.

The Layton franchise is back with an interesting spin off that, despite not introducing some important innovations, keeps the appeal of the main episodes of this saga with its feeling and good puzzles. Overall, this is a good entry in the series, but it feels not as remarkable as its predecessors.

Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire's Conspiracy feels rather comforting, the video game equivalent of a warm blanket. For the most part it reverts to the core formula of the Professor Layton games, albeit with a new cast and by dividing the narrative into mostly lighthearted, charming 'cases'. All it lacks is the confidence to fully embrace its new setting, stopping short of expanding upon some of its ideas. That said, it still delivers the series' unique blend of storytelling and lots of puzzles with aplomb. It'll have fans and newcomers scratching their heads and smiling at the same time; here's hoping it's not Layton's final mystery.

Layton’s Mystery Journey is a mixed bag. Fans of the series who are happy to just get more puzzles and plot should be content with this: by no means is it the best game in the series, but it should do the trick if you’ve played all the other entries. If you haven’t, you might want to try older Layton games like The Lost Future first, because they do a far better job when it comes to storytelling.

The puzzles, which in the Professor Layton Games always had a twist, are made for children, there wasn't one where I had any kind of difficulties and none of them needed any second thought.
The stories are just completely boring, without the length needed to build up any excitement and comming from the 3DS games (especially Azran Legacy and the Phoenix Wright crossover) this was just pure disappointment. The characters weren't even the problem, even though Ernest made me so mad with his bs character, but what it really was, was the child friendliness, even more present than in the other games. I think the TV series shows the route they took with Lady Layton really well and sadly this is not what me and any other fans was excited for the 3 years this game was in development.
The Layton Franchise is a great one, but this entry just isn't worthy to be called a Layton game or even a puzzle game in general

The game in general is terrible. While the professor Layton games still were quite unisex games you will feel quite out of place when you are playing Mystery Journey and aren't a completely girly girl. Dress ups, interior decoration and Katrielle always feeling the need to stuff herself with food (a character treat she seems to share with absolutely every female lead character of Japanese girl series) - these so far were more prominent than an actual storyline. The stories are just small single chapters with close to no connection and the plot and also the characters really lack charm. While the professor Layton games were serious/emotional with a touch of humour (absolutely fitting) I have the feeling this game tries to be funny with a touch of seriousness but horribly fails at both. The voice actors often say something different from the text on screen (and it's actually sounding better than the text on screen). And what's with all these pointless two second long cutscenes? Also the translations sometimes seem quite bad, not only in the English version which others have already mentioned here but also in the German version that I played.
Are we really sure - is this really a game developed by Level 5 or a bootleg copycat that tried to make some quick cash with a lackluster phone game that for whatever reason was later copied to 3DS?

Its story may be a bit weaker than some of its predecessor's, and we have to agree that some of the cases' resolutions make little sense and are not that great, but the game has some great puzzles and going through the cases is very fun! I have to say, though, that as you progress in the game it gets better and better. Also, its graphics, for a 3DS, are very good, although of course this game isn't focused on graphics. While we all miss Luke and Professor Layton, the 3 new main characters (Layton's daughter, her assistant Ernest, and the dog) are awesome, they are very charismatic and fun to play with. We have to highlight as well that there are 195 puzzles (185 + 10 special ones), that is I think the highest number ever in a Layton game! Coupled with the daily puzzles you can download, there are a lot of misteries to solve!

All in all, a pretty good game, if you like the saga this is a must-have, and if you haven't played any other Layton games yet, this one doesn't disappoint as a start!
