Dallas series remake.Backstabbing,inbreeding,lust and greed... All its here. At the end, its still only soap opera.

It seems to me that this plays very much to a macho American culture where real men are hard working and playing cowboys and everybody else is just something less. This stereo type gets wearing after a while and I longed for a more subtle nuanced approach to the storyline and acting. Even the daughter is more macho than most men and the gay son just seems to be trodden upon. It is however beautifully shot and its production values are 1st rate.
It appears to be a show out of time, more suited to a few decades ago but I guess this is exactly what appeals to its fan base. I will try and get to 5 episodes (3 currently) in and hope things get better but I see little sign of it at the moment.… Expand

As a big fan of Kevin Costner and especially his westerns (A Perfect World, Open Range especially), I wanted yo like this., His slutty daughter is interesting, otherwise it was sooooo boring, i stuck it out for 3 episodes so cannot speak past that.

An entertaining series for sure, but the quality is hitting the skids in Season 4. The writer would appear to have overextended himself by allowing himself to become a one-man industry. The writer would appear to have overextended himself by allowing himself to become a one-man industry. He may be hot now, but in years to come I predict his legacy will be tarnished by exceeding his creative capacity. In Season 4, the writer props up his lack of ideas by leaning on macho tropes which probably tickles the 'anti-woke' elements of his audience, but is off-putting for many others. (Personally, those dainty little dances the stunt riders perform are about the gayest thing I've seen in a Western, but to each his own.)
Cast is great, production lush, only limitations lie with the creator. Will probably pass if there's a Season 5.… Expand
