Summary: Tonight's returning contestant was John Christensen. He reached $4,000 last time with 2 lifelines intact (PAF, 50:50). He made $16,000 with no problems but hit a roadblock on his $32,000 question asking what element makes up the largest percentage of the Earth's atmosphere (Nitrogen). He used his PAF, who guesses either carbon or hydrogen. John then did 50:50, which in fact eliminated carbon and hydrogen. It left oxygen and nitrogen. So John decided to leave with $16,000.

Next in the hot seat was Joel McElvain. He made $32,000 without a problem but was pretty sure he knew his $64,000 question about the number of whole tones that make up an octave (Six). He answered eight but fell short.

Next up was Jeff Siehl. He cruised to $8,000 smoothly but needed a 50:50 on his $16,000 asking what what river the Hoover Dam was on (Colorado River). He answered correctly. He then made $64,000 with no problems. But on his $125,000 question asking how many arms a squid has including tentacles (Ten), he used his remaining lifelines. His PAF guessed ten and the audience guessed the same but with only 39% of a majority. Still unconvinced, Jeff decided to walk away. It turns out everyone was right! Oh well.
Due to a lack of time, Joel Winkelsas could only reach $200 before time ran out. But he carried over next show.
