Hilarious, in-character, and so cleanly integrated that the gag doesn’t clang against the series’ new depth of sadness: That’s how “What We Do in the Shadows” makes us laugh.

Coming off an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2020, What We Do in the Shadows continues to alternate between deadpan, dark, physical, and scatological humor, sometimes within a single scene, with ease and effectiveness. It also remains delightfully weird, acted by pros with impeccable timing, and Goth-gorgeous in every detail, including production designs that demand viewers hit pause in order to absorb everything in the frame.

The program is as funny as ever, even reflecting some uncertainty about where to go and what to do next in its narrative. ... The writing on “What We Do in the Shadows” remains some of the sharpest on television, balancing physical humor with hysterical plot twists. ... It’s fresh and yet consistent, which is common in the best comedies—we laugh because the jokes fit the characters and yet we still can’t see the punchlines coming.

Season 3 continues to be hilarious and advance character development, but does all of this while unifying this group even tighter as a tremendous ensemble. By bringing new power and new responsibilities to these characters, What We Do in the Shadows brings new blood and an exciting future to one of television’s great comedies.

What We Do in the Shadows is still very, very good—maybe even better than ever. But as for expectations, leave them behind. It’s so much more fantastic to not know, from one minute to the next, what awaits.

What We Do in the Shadows is still committed to being endearingly silly, and Season 3 still delivers that in spades.

It feels likeThe exploits of the Vampires in modern day Manhattan is still watchworthy, but seems to have lost some of its initial charm. It feels like Covid made filming and sets a bit harder to traverse, since almost exclusively all of the settings are feeling "empty" in a sense. Most of the story is one on one conversations with the actual "crowd" scene filling in to give a sense of "more" happening - which is not really the case if you watch closely. The highest bodycount so far in a scene was probably 8 at the most, a visible change from the sometimes crowd-heavy Season 2 with the Vampires traversing social situations in public and the Vampiric Council.

That said, the dialogs and based-on-awkwardness comedy is still mostly intact and heightened by the fact of an empowered Guillermo, now not in his classical "servant" position anymore. This adds some spice to the relationship with his "masters" since the happenings of Season 2's finale.

Some jokes miss the mark far and wide while others remain well-crafted in the setting of "Milliennia-old Vampires traversing modern day society".

The 2nd episode is a true gem in execution, no spoilers, and very watchworthy. Can't wait to see if the Seasons' pace might pick up afterwards.

For now, Season 2 is still my personal highlight, but Season 3 is a worthwhile follow-up that might still win some more ground as it goes on.

They keep adding fresh ways to develop these characters in interesting organic ways.

The characters continue remains fresh and new but not out pre-established lore and personalities. A lot of characters arch changes and directions humanised them and were interesting. Friendships formed felt so natural and well written.

the all of the celebrity cameos felt organic and never too gimmicky.

Each series ends on a yet gripping cliff hanger two actually and this was no different, except there was two cliff hangers. Truly heart breaking events this season.
I look forward to seeing what happens to the characters next season.
