Westworld is a very thought provoking show about culture and artificial intelligence.

Love the latest season. Top notch production and well directed. Thought provoking, with actors/tresses having to take on several personalities. No, it may not fix your ADD craving. Might I recommend some cartoons for that.

Ultimately, though, the central issue becomes (of course) what's going wrong with the robots or is it all part of some Machiavellian scheme enshrined in the robots' programming.

One of the founders of Westworld, it seems, wanted the robots to forever serve as an experiment on the nature of consciousness and was opposed to the idea of the robots populating a theme park. And then somehow he died, or was killed or murdered, and maybe a robot did it, or didn't, and despite all the flashbacks we'll never really know because all the flashbacks come via the robots and their memories, which, we're told, are always getting wiped clean, or manipulated, and their minds and personalities adjusted and rebooted, to the point that you could not find a less reliable fictional narrator if you went about creating one yourself.

There's a great deal of contemplative chit-chat and philosophical debate about the nature of the robots' "reality" and so forth, but the problem of course is that we are presented with nothing to substantiate the idea that some of the robots are evolving beyond programming to become self-aware and therefore "alive." I remember nothing to suggest how this would even happen. And frankly a lot of this ruminating reminds me of nothing so much as Dr. Eldon Tyrell in "Blade Runner" remarking that providing replicants with (fictional) memories only makes it easier for replicants to be controlled.

Also, the idea that the robots are nicer or more moral than the humans who visit the park (espoused by at least one member of the cast) is pretty much annihilated by the robots (bandits and others) who are every bit as murderous and evil as any of the humans who visit the park. And if they're not self-aware and "alive" then just asking if they are "moral" makes as much sense as asking if lawnmowers are "moral."

I suppose the biggest problem of all is the season finale, which, to my mind, answers no questions and only succeeds in raising all kinds of issues.

Overall, though, it's a pretty good show.

Amazing show with amazing acting. I love everything about this show. If you like shows that make you question reality and what it means to be human then you need to watch this show.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the best existing TV shows. All three seasons in metaphorical form raise social, philosophical and religious issues at a decent level of storytelling. A mixture of science fiction, western - in the first two seasons and cyberpunk - in the third, with small deviations to the samurai, Indian and WW2 worlds, does not make the scenery boring and the picture always looks fresh and beautiful. The music from Ramin Djawadi is top notch as always. Expand

This is a smart and interesting show that requires you to pay attention. It's complex and intricate. Fantastic writing with plenty of twists. There is foreshadowing, there is symbolism, it's a highly visual show. I was never bored watching it.

Very strong performances from the actors across the board, especially from Anthony Hopkins, Thandie Newton and Evan Rachel Wood. There were moments in this show that blew my goddamn mind. Some people might be turned off by the amount of violence and sex, but it's an excellent series. Definitely worth watching.

There are lots of unneededly complicated story lines. "Westwold" raises lots of philosophical questions such as "What does it mean to be human?" and "Does anyone have free will?"-- but they largely go unanswered. All the main characters (Delores, Charlotte, Maeve, Bernard, William) have largely separate story lines. I like them best when they interact (either working together or trying to kill each another). Don't get me wrong. There are some MAJOR positives about season 3. The biggest is Evan Rachel Wood. Her portrayal of damsel-in-distress-turned-world-destroyer Delores is the highlight of the series. I would follow her army anywhere. The show is also visually stunning. The sci fi elements this season are top notch. The fight scenes and car chases are excellent. I just wish there was a more cohesive story to match. "Westworld" has been renewed for a season 4. Where can they go from here given the final state of the characters? And can they attract an audience that's interested enough to tune back in? Time will tell. Expand

Season 1 was great. Well written, elegantly shot and staged. Anthony Hopkins was crushing it. This show was slated to be a great success if they had just realized what made it great. Rating: 9.5/10

Season 2 was muddled, incoherent writing where the show got really silly and stupid really fast. Still a beautifully produced and stylistically cool exterior to the show, but the writing got so dumb and convoluted it basically ruined everything else. There's a difference between a show being thought-provoking and a show just repeatedly mentioning bigger issues and themes for the audience..... Rating 6.5/10

Season 3 was still convoluted and retained a lot of the problems Season 2 had, although it was a slight improvement because it was only 8 episodes so the story was forced to be more concise. Even so, it was not an intelligently-told story. Rating 7/10

Very disappointing series given its early promise. I wanted to like it so much but they've completely ruined the show.

The series can cause a double feeling after watching. Not completely understood the motives of the main characters and their intentions. The series was interesting and slightly intuitively influenced my perception. I give a rating - 9.
