Terrible show. The first fifteen minutes of the first episode are alright, and then it degenerates into substandard, poorly written, badly acted rubbish. Really terrible show, I cannot stress that enough. Really bad.

It's very difficult to "suspend disbelief" and just enjoy the story when the plot is so full of holes and the characters behave so irrationally. I've always wondered, is it really impossible for the people who greenlight these series to just read the script and tell right away that the series is going to be rubbish, so it should not be made? Every episode leads to dozens of new questions, and each answer leads to more questions. However, WP doesn't hover on every questions for long. You get satisfying answers a lot sooner than you'd think. The acting is great for the most part, but that leads me to the bad...

Although the acting is good, they aren't given much to work with in terms of dialogue. Characters speak very plainly. There's no artfulness to the language. They try to draw it out, as if that makes it better, but you know what the character's point is before they make it - if that makes sense. Luckily the performances are usually enough to balance this out to make it bearable.

If you like shows that induce a lot of speculation, fan theories, etc., then you'll probably enjoy the show. I'm all caught up as of now and from what I've seen I know I'll be sticking with the show - at least through the season.

I'm gonna divide the show for three parts:
    1) First 4 episodes - there a thriller, plot keep you moving and mystery does not loose grip in your head: what behind the fence? who is on the phone? what about time shifts? why this people are even following the rules? and why this rules? aliens, corporations, supernatural beings, afterlife, hallucinations - all is possible and it's awesome.

    Strong 9 out of 10.

    2) The last of the season - okay...now the mystery is gone, we know the truth. And everything falling apart, all previous suspense is gone. You can not help but to notice faults in very core of this show. Characters behaviour which was odd and mysterious before - is just plain dumb now. Plot holes becomes not mysteries and atmosphere - they become just this: plot holes. And the moment you stop believing in logic of this show - you can not take it seriously:

    - we expect to believe that people just okay with surveillance, phone calls and the rules. No one ask about it, everyone just follows like nothing happens. for YEARS. But everyone knows about the chip, how to pass the surveillance and it's not even hard.

    - we expect to believe that people are afraid but there is no guards, no automatic turrets, no punishment aside of...sherif killing people on the street with a knife. Like no one ever think of uprising? with you know - bats, hatchets and stuff? About beating the truth out of sherif? He is obviously knows something and he is the only guy with the gun...

    - we expect to believe what escaping is impossible, yet sherif is holding...KEYS TO THE FENCE in his pocket and main character actually just, well, escaped.

    - there is very creepy hospital (and - suddenly! - just normal hospital in second half), fence, fake money (how do they have the economy if food is free, and there is no actual production of anything?) - but nobody talks about it, like meh. There is even an REAL ESTATE AGENCY which whole purpose is giving houses for free.

    - they entrust the truth to CHILDREN, and not just truth - but with proof (coins) and we expect to believe that the truth have not leaked out? for YEARS?

    - the truth is not that scary. We told that adults can't handle it, yet every single character in the show is actually handling it very well. No one even cried or weeped, or even blinked.

    - we don't get any explanation - why BOTHER WITH TOWN AT ALL. I mean - if the focus is the children - why adults? and there are clearly adults who can handle the truth (LOTS of them actually) - why bother building town, surveillance for whose who don't - and maintaining it?

episodes 5-10 is just 2 out of 10.

    3) Ending is just...well it just ruined any plot, idea and characters which was left (which was not much). In last 2 minutes everything characters was fighting for was just reverted with no explanation at all. It's plain 0 out of 10.

this is actually Under the Dome bad, my advice - stop at episode 4, or even episode 3.

The characters are interesting enough, Matt Dillon, of whom I haven't heard anything for a long time, is great in this(even though he looks a bit like Frankenstein's monster nowadays).

Wayward Pines is far from being great, but it's entertaining, fast paced and compelling, even by today's TV standards. I hope the show has a long way to go and doesn't end up being predictable. Give it a chance!

I think is very interesting to see how Shyamalan creativity will work on TV, maybe it is the right place for him (I liked the homage to LOST and other tv shows with some shots) After watching many new pilots lately, this one worked pretty good. It gave enough information without creating a cheap drama or giving away many answers. The premise of the story is intriguing, even if it might sound familiar like a Twilight Zone episode. The acting and productions values as cinematography and production design are great and so the music. I liked that there are 2 points of views, inside Wayward Pines and outside of it. I believe Wayward Pines is a tv show that it could take us anywhere. Shyamalan's work also has had a social criticism; it would be interesting to see the meaning behind the mystery town. Expand

The best way I can describe the plot and the characterizations of Wayward Pines is to imagine a moderately creative but nuance-deprived 12-year old had a school assignment to make up a mysterious TV show and write an episode every week. He then plopped down on the couch, watched Twin Peaks and Lost, and figured if he took about 50% from each no one would realize he was plagiarizing. Unfortunately he didn't steal from the good/clever/stylish/interesting/believable parts, he just grabbed the surface-level, in-your-face surprising/wacko bits.

Actually all you need to know is already there in the title: "Wayward Pines" - it's "Twin Peaks", except they went with "Wayward" instead of something more realistic like "Twin" to hit you over the head that the place is weird.

Note: If this actually turns out to have been written and directed by a 12-year-old, I will change my rating to an 8 to encourage the kid to keep at it. Once he has another 6 to 20 years life experience and a lot of creative writing classes, I suspect he could turn out some brilliant stuff...

Although derivative it seems to be finding its own path. We have the governor from TWD, we have the inability to leave from The Dome and The Returned etc. What we do have that makes it worth watching is an excellent cast, although no one is not expendable, so the cast may change, and some unnerving twist and turns. Definitely worth the summer viewing.

They have no contact with the outside world. There is no internet or TV. No phone calls get through to anyone beyond the city limits.

The town is filled with bizarre inhabitants. Nurse Pam is super menacing (and so far is my favorite character). My second favorite is Pope (the ice cream eating sheriff). There are also rules that all citizens obey OR ELSE. They include (and I'm paraphrasing here): 1. Dont Talk About Your Past; 2. Dont Try To Leave; 3. Always Answer The Phone; 4. Enjoy Your Time In Wayward Pines.

I dont want to go into detail since that would reveal the plot but all sorts of strangeness is going on. I have no idea what it all means. I'm also not sure who (if anyone) Ethan can trust in this town.

Matt Dillon is excellent in the lead role of Ethan Burke. The rest of the cast is also great. The other standouts for me are Melissa Leo (Nurse Pam) and Terrence Howard (Sheriff Pope).

So far, I'm really liking "Wayward Pines". It's living up to it's tag line of "expect the unexpected". However, I reserve the right to change my mind later. I've been burned far too many times by M Night Shyamalan. And yes I'm still upset about "The Village".

That being so the first episode seems to have been very well done. The quality of acting and direction seems really strong. That should be expected as they seem to have a top notch group of actors. And since you really don't know anything about what is really going on it makes it difficult to know exactly where this is going. And since you don't know where it's going it's hard to know how to grade it, just from the first show. So I give it a 7, as it is already better than most of the new shows I have seen.

In truth it reminds me of a more serious "Wilfred". Basically when you first see that you realize the guy is crazy, and through drug induced stupors is talking to his neighbor's dog. Whom he feel's talks back and leads him to do crazy things. Then after about 4 seasons and through many bizarre twists, you eventually found out you were right. Wayward pines has already laid the foundation that this could be one of many psychotic events of the main character. A sinister government conspiracy to make wayward agent's disappear. One of those crazy out of control small towns everyone fears exist. Or a rogue agent imprisoning many agents/people for his own insidious plots. And those are just the possibilities I noticed.

And all I can say is if they laid that many possibilities in the pilot episode this could be one very intriguing ride. It's almost impossible to judge for sure on the first episode, but with this great of an acting crew, and the first episode directed so well. This could be one great ride. Especially if the director is smart enough to film multiple endings and use the one people least expect in the end. But if it ends up being what you thought from the first episode you might just feel taken.

There's a rooted sense of dread when one is faced with unknown elements, the series plays with this isolation fright as Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) is stripped bare from money and communication to outside world. Ethan wakes up after a car accident and finds himself in a foreign small town where the citizens are persistently unaccommodating. While the scenery might look normal, the town has the vibe of lurking secret in every corner. This is definitely no tourist attraction.

Matt Dillon is a good leading actor, displaying confusion and occasional rage as he is lost in the bizarre city. Having no money, phone or decent help, his reactions are spot-on. At times he displays doubt of the reality as more questions pile up. Terrence Howard as Sheriff Pope looks decently antagonistic. Nothing more creepy when one is lost than unhelpful authority. Another notable performance is Mellisa Leo as Nurse Pam who is far from nurturing, goes beyond unhelpful and straight into perverse torturing nature.

Wayward Pines looks quaint most of the time, yet the cinematography presents a lingering uneasiness. Its rural view mixed with edges of forest has some resemblances to Silent Hill. It has a particular dark contrast befitting of detective thriller which strangely enough feels welcoming to the audience. Pacing is pretty quick as it switches back and forth between Ethan's ordeal and his friends' investigation of his whereabouts.

Mysteries are aplenty as it the show spreads them throughout the first episode. The show cleverly scatters hints for Ethan and the audiences to follow. They are presented with restraint and enough ambiguity to be unnerving yet not to the point of overbearing. These are enticing hooks for later episodes.

Wayward Pines opens its door with cold unsettling ambiance and cool noir visual. The mystery thriller certainly offers a presentable invitation for a longer stay.

At the very heart of the otherwise suspenseful and readable Wayward Pines trilogy is a plausible scientific event that occurs in an impossible time frame. It's such an outrageous anomaly that I couldn't get past it when reading the trilogy, and I don't see how the TV series can avoid the same problem.

No, it's not a little technical mistake, like those so popular with fans of any of the old Star Trek TV series. This is a biological doozie, one that makes the entire series too unbelievable, even after one suspends one's disbelief.

Too bad, because the TV series so far is otherwise quite good!

The more complex an organism the longer it takes , the longer the period before being fertile the longer it takes also. Humans chaning so much in such a short time is just laughable. For anyone with a basic understanding in biology the spell is broken right there.
If you're going to take some artictic freedom take a leap and keep it possible. An invasion of killer mucus from outer space is more plausible than humans evolving into some kind of incarnation of "The Flash".

    but there are problems like:
too many love thing like Ben and that girl ahh i already forgott her name..
its sad Kate is still alive i mean what the hell she was???? a *** terminator?... she cant get a scratch!...
i also disliked Theresa she totally didn't fit the whole wayward pines,
ethan burke was too soft... later the entire show is just a action shooter movie unlike the first 2 best episode it was a mystery, and the ending was great, perfect.

My main problem with the show is the lack of a proper B story-line. We're always with the Matt Dillon character; the rare times we're not, we're with his wife, who's worried about Matt, and wants to find him (*boring*! You know you're dealing with male writers when they can't think of anything else a woman might be doing with her time). I really don't know how Shylaman managed to make 2 decent movies - I highly suspect Bruce Willis has something to do with those movies being very good. Expand

Wow. I at first thought Wayward Pines would be a (Perhaps better) Twin Peaks knock off - but it is awesome, different, and unique. Starting in episode three the show’s story-line takes a twist that I didn't see coming....and the landscape keeps getting more bizarre after episode 5. Good acting but gotta give kudos to Nurse Pam....love to hate her!!!! Good writing. Can't wait to see whereWow. I'm not sure why people like this show, maybe because I've been watching Season Two which is very different than the first season. I've never heard a show repeat it's own name so much in it's dialogue. It's as if they think there viewers are mentally challenged and need to be reminded that they are watching "Wayward Pines" every two minutes. I stopped watching after 3 shows.

The scenario is really nothing new here, but features the signature M. This show has me hooked since episode 1. It's nothing new but the actors do a fantastic job. The story is somewhat dull at some moments, but still a great show and very entertaining.

Not sure about this series. Its like "The Prisoner" meets "Lost". I'm waiting for Patrick Mcgoohan and a big white bubble to show up and eat people. I guess referencing the Prisoner dates me too much... most viewers of this series wouldn't know this is a bit of a repeat. Although, its looking very walking deadish of late.

Finding out at the end that the seasons final episode was actually the series final, was a huge disappointment. I felt as if i was tricked,bamboozled...

There are talks in bringing this show back for a second season, which personally i hope they do... as long as they continue with the working formula of the show up until now, which was to reveal interesting facts, but still muster enough character dialog and story dynamics to keep your focus on the screen.

It's TV designed for people who watch a lot of TV and know a lot of TV, and aren't necessarily coming into Wayward Pines to be stunned by its novelty but to see if a group of talented actors, writers, and filmmakers can stitch a crazy quilt of influences into something coherent and pleasurable. They do. But it takes a while.

It’s not going anywhere you’d likely suspect, and the big reveal episodes have a lot of explaining to do, but this hyper-paranoid, time-twisting and addictive show is actually laying a foundation for something. How that something eventually plays out remains a question, but the ride there is an undeniable kick.
