Summary: Rhoda Bradley a busy mum of three who’s very frustrated by her job as a supermarket check out assistant, applies for promotion to the assistant manager’s job. But she knows that the job won’t be hers when she sees a younger, better looking candidate applying for the same role.

When her daughter Lexie is rushed to hospital with severe abdominal pains, she talks to a medical student treating her daughter, discovering the existence a program for recruiting older people from ordinary backgrounds to train as doctors. This fires her enthusiasm to train to be a doctor.

However, Rhonda's husband Tony is worried about the family's financial near-future, and her sister Maddy, who always wanted to be the family doctor and wound up as a nurse, is furious about her decision.
