I loved the first two seasons and felt that season 3 was a bit lacking. The new season is all over the place though. I get that the story needs to spread out and incorporate new characters (and time jumps) to further the story but its just getting ridiculous. The new central narrative focuses on all the new characters and very little on the original cast.

Esta temporada ha sido genial y mantiene el nivel de la serie a un gran nivel, no se entienden las crĂticas negativas sinceramente, los capĂtulos tienen ritmo y hay mĂ¡s variedad en las historias.

this season was amazing as the cinematography really outdid itself along with spectacular action and dialouge. Once again Travis Fimmel shines as Ragnar Lothbrok, but bjorn and lagertha were also very good. and i loved the guy who plays King Ecbert

To be honest Season 4 is probably not one of the better ones of the show. The first part of the season wasn't that good but they make it up in the second part. It's brave to see what they have done with the story of some characters in the show. I couldn't predicted what happend to them and that deserves a thumps up from me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got bored with Vikings in Season 3.5-4.5, or however one is counting and stopped watching. I just picked in back up again. Rather amazingly, to me, is that the series has allowed the original characters to age and/or die and brought up new and fresh characters. Both Alex Høgh Andersen as Ivar, and Alexander Ludwig as Bjorn Lothbrok are fascinating young men. The other sons are find. Lagertha, Rollo, and Kattegat have undergone major renovations and their newness is refreshing. Even the Paris story has become interesting. So, for me, it is like seeing a new 1st season again, with enough continuity to deepen my understanding and appreciation for the history and enough newness to make it all fresh. Expand

I had hopes for this season but they should have just sticked to the 10 episodes/season formula. Now they just tell a 10 episodes worth of story in 20 episodes.

LOL @ the critic scores. This season is far from an '80'. I didn't actually mind the first couple seasons so much. I didn't think they were good but they weren't a waste of time. The third season is when 'Vikings' succumbed to mediocrity, and the fourth to parody. What will the fifth season become, I imagine??

The first two Seasons of Vikings are excellent, Season 3 was mediocre (aside from the siege of Paris), but now Season 4 is, oh boy... The story is all over the place, the Vikings became a supporting cast instead of main characters, and even when the Vikings are on screen, it's just not the same, the magic is gone!

The writing has completely tanked and the storyline has gone to trash. I could write better episodes on my lunch break. All of the good characters have been lost, and those that remain are struggling with the terrible script. Hearing these fake viking accents stumble over words like "probably" and "supposed to" is painful, and the author could have easily avoided this with better writing. The writing has completely tanked and the storyline has gone to trash. Has Hintz hired interns to write these? And now they're even copying game of thrones in many ways, from the design of the throne to Ivar's "wings". Very sad because this was a fun show once upon a time, with an incredible performance by Fimmel. Expand

Well, where to start? Hmm, Season I and II were really good, at least trying to depict the the scandinavians somewhat accurately, although a lot was missing in a historical sense. Season IV, and the show has gone from mediocre to awful. They sort of killed the main characters, in spirit that is, and made them extras in their own show. Who cares about the horribly bad acting "Franks" and "Saxons" and their stupid wifes. The show is called "Vikings", is it not? Misplaced filler lovestories and ridiculous anachronistic scenes with a chinese concubine...!? For real? I guess the show was too popular depicting what people actually want to see, so now they want to kill it off entirely. No, people DO NOT want to see multicultural, falsified history with an obvious agenda of miscrediting scandinavian people, promoting the "higher" monotheistic culture (that I expect will happen soon in the show..) Sadly, I fear it will go from horrible to pure parody as the characters are "developed" into mere cartoonfigures.

From bad to worse, I'm not going to watch anymore. The show is fluff and lies, it's embarrassing that it's on the "History Channel". And I find it extremely peculiar that the only Scandinavian actors are cast as villains.

Rome and Black Sails show that authenticity can be achieved even while taking unlimited creative license, but Viking completely fails - it conveys nothing. Black Sails isn't even historical yet captures the world it is based on flawlessly. Tudors shows Hirst is capable of better, so my only conclusion is that his prejudices were incompatible with telling this story honestly.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not sure what all the negative comments and ratings are about. Sure I think they are spending a "tad" too much time with the Saxons and Franks. But we've still had good moments with the Vikings so far.

The season premier was dope with Rollo betraying his Viking brothers, and Kalf wrecking the Einar dude. We've had Ragnar chaining Floki in the cave, King Harald's entrance into Kattegat which was well done IMO. Ragnar confessing his secrets to Yidu. Lagertha betraying Kalf like she promised last season.

The only thing obvious from Critic Reviews score is that Variety and Boston Globe reviews are written by bots or lazy or overworked critics that obviously didn't watch the show.

I started watching this series with great hopes, since the period is one of my favorites and this is the "History"channel. What a big disappointment. The clothes are ludicrous. Paris is wrong in any possible way. Every historical movie or show has to take liberties, we all expect it. But this is far too much. The church crucified people (not one recorded case), women were not allowed to illuminate (there are whole lists with the names of women that illuminated manuscripts)... I could go on. What is the point of call yourself the History Channel if you do not give a... peanut about history? Expand

Everything on this show is amazing. All the detail that the have presented, it is just incredible. Of course, it is still have a lack of computer graphics while shooting in the ocean, but it is just something it has to be improved in the coming seasons.

This season 4 has started slowly with the first ten episodes, but the 4B part is spectacular, everything has changed and we see that they pushed the show far further than before!

Kattegat has changed, the sons of Ragnar are changed and they come with more craziness, the fate of Ragnar is sealed and now, the storm is coming.

Notice that the soundtrack and the cinematography are beautiful in those new episodes.

Disappointing fourth season overall; they seems to want to rush the show or something because throughout we have incoherent cuts between characters stories, i.e random howling from Bjorn then straight cut to politics in France with no explanation? The show has been really good up till now and its really a shame they're taking it down this route. Hopefully they can improve with the next season.

Vikings is the best show on TV, plain and simple. The first 2 seasons were the best, and I thought season 4 came back and finished on the upswing. I wish they made more episodes every year.

The story is as brutally simple (as were the Vikings, so the series suggests): Ragnar (Travis Fimmel), a farmer when he's not being a warrior,

Enjoyed the show until the porn scenes. I don't watch porn, don't wish to watch it, especially on TV shows. I accidentally posted this in season 3, which I was very tempted to stop watching due to the sex scenes, but after the latest episode tonight, I gave up on it. Didn't finish watching the show.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So this season is the best season of Vikings in my opinion. I think season's 1-4 is the greatest show ever made. So I find myself saying each season is the best season because they are all incredible (Except Season 5) The one scene in the episode "What Might have Been" is simply moving and something that almost made me cry. You go on this journey with Ragnar and you feel what he is feeling at times. I hated season 5 and hated Ivar. But he has some great moments in season 4 with Ragnar. And the ending of this season is so good and heartbreaking. In my opinion when Ragnar died the show died with him. Expand

Whilst the journey of the main characters remains interesting, the plot and pace is all over the pace. The newer threads seem to lead nowhere and Ragnars sons are irritating

Most impressively, Vikings captures the grim reality of these times and the limitations of these characters--barbarous, superstitious creatures that they are--in a manner that draws one into their world without necessarily evoking sympathy for it. And even the ostensible good guys, like Ragnar, are prone to do very bad things, without making them any less watchable.
