I can't wait for Season 2 to end so I can stop watching UTD! I am mad at myself for wanting to see what happens because the writing is so bad I end up yelling at the T.V. every episode. Of course, this seems to be the show's plan. I pray this show does not get picked up for another season, but if it does count me out. STUPID SHOW!!

I guess Stephen King laughs all the way to the bank. I thought the long-ago "Langoliers" series couldn't possibly be topped in awfulness, but this one has done it. It's like they they cribbed themes from "Lost" and "Heroes" and transmogrified them into the most inane drivel. It boggles one's mind that somebody would put up all the millions it took to produce two seasons of this series, or that the network would give it all that air time. I can't believe I wasted two seasons watching this potboiler. Since things were left hanging in the second season's finale, one assumes there will be -- God knows why -- a third season. Or if we're lucky, it will be dropped like so many other series left unresolved. But if it does come back for a third season, it will be without me. Will the townspeople escape the dome? Will everyone live happily ever after? What does the dome REALLY want? Does anyone remotely care? Not I... Expand

Bottom line: this is a terrible show.

No one who has ever seen a TV series can with a serious face appreciate Under the Dome on any level. In fact, comparing this to the dozens of shows I have followed in my life (currently I'm watching 75 different series a year), I'm convinced that Under the Dome is the worst TV series I have ever seen. Giving it a score of one would be too kind.

Giving it a score of one would be too kind.

The characters are laughably birdbrained. Their decisions make no sense, they change their minds all the time without direction. They get themselves in trouble because they are so massively stupid, and they turn against each other on a whim even though only a second earlier they were friends. Then there are characters who for some reason just disappear for several episodes. The people outside the dome (who for some reason are almost non-existent from the show) can consider themselves lucky for being isolated from this town of morons.

The plot lines are so bad they make me cry. Introduced plot lines are soon forgotten, abandoned or buried for no reason. They leave so many questions unanswered. The challenges that are thrown at the town are faced with the intelligence of a five-year-old and pseudo-scientific solutions. There are so many holes in the plot that it makes Swiss cheese jealous.

But the worst thing has to be the dialogue. There is nothing good to say about it. It is just so absolutely inane. Like during the fifth episode when Jim and Rebecca tried to release a deadly virus to kill a large part of the town population. What did Julia say about this to the townspeople? This: "What Big Jim and Rebecca tried to do yesterday is inexcusable. But it's not unforgivable." What? What kind of stupid comment is that after they tried to kill hundreds of people? The dialogue is completely void of emotion, reason and logic.

Some viewers say we shouldn't take this show too seriously. To them this is just a little bit of fun summer entertainment. Unfortunately this is not the case. There are many shows out there that are made for fun and that doesn't take themselves too seriously, and yet they manage to make sense. Under the Dome however does not do this. It takes itself too seriously while not making any sense. It is just an appalling insult to human intelligence and should under no circumstances be praised.

There is no reason for anyone to even call this show "OK", "decent" or "passable". Let's call this what it is: a sad, pathetic excuse for a TV show without any redeeming qualities. I have no idea how on earth a bunch of professional writers and producers have managed to create something this bad. They should hang their heads in shame.

That show had Dr. Smith and Robot, and Under the Dome could sorely use them to save this mess. I can forgive the horrible inconsistenices and cliche plot devices if I can root for the characters. But honestly, there isn't a single character on this show - good guy or villain - who is unique or interesting in any way. I don't care about any of them. The closest they get is with Big Jim, and his act has already gotten old. This show really proves how important writing and character development are, when you look at Dean Norris' performance as Hank in Breaking Bad and compare that to the drek he must deliver as Big Jim in UTD. The rest of these characters are TV Trope 101. Barbie, Julia...who cares? None of these characters have a personality or any kind of hook, and just go through the motions of reacting to the latest drama of the week. At least they killed off Sheriff Linda early on in season 2. She has to go down as the dumbest tv cop of all time. Even the teenage characters are lame, they have the collective personality of a brick. In the space of two weeks, Joe is separated from his parents, had his house ripped apart, and found out his sister was hacked to death by an axe-murderer, and he's making out with a chick in the woods when not eall gung-ho trying to solve the mystery of the dome. All of the teen characters are boring and unappealing, it makes me long for old Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes where you had teen characters like Xander and Willow who were actually entertaining. This show is utterly humorless for a story about a town under a dome that begs for occasional comic relief. I mean, seriously, we're talking about a town in a fishbowl here. The Simpsons got it right. On the whole, UTD is just bad soap opera set to a Stephen King story, and feels like they just make it up as they go along, a la Lost. I hate myself for watching it. Expand

Funny how they put Dean into a Breaking Bad style role where he's the 'Gus' of the operation. I decided to watch the first episode of Season 2. Dean Norris nearly hangs himself because he's stuck acting in such an empty construct. Characters are flatter than the first season and they have to explain to us what the dome is thinking when they shouldn't have to. I think it would have worked better if there was more irony between us and all the characters where we know more about what's going on then they do. As it is, we have the handprint people and dead characters telling us what the dome is trying to do. Perhaps they should have filled the dome with water and big fish. At the end finale a big hand opens the top of the dome to pour in fish food. Even Stephen King couldn't save this thing. Avoid! Avert your eyes! Expand
