    It’s amazing but not surprising of the negative reviews like any other reviews, status, award, or any accomplishment controlled by white audience and white platforms. So many black movies and black actors never get their flowers and as showcased in this series, no matter where you live, go, or what class or stature you carry as a black person, you are not invited, accepted, or seen asIt’s amazing but not surprising of the negative reviews like any other reviews, status, award, or any accomplishment controlled by white audience and white platforms. This show is epic in so many ways that it gives a mental, physical, spiritual, out of body, and supernatural approach to the reality of black people! The acting, theme, story, realness plot, and attempt to give an authentic and surreal experience will miss the mark for the obvious to the same people the serious is TRULY ABOUT! THEM!… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Promising but coulda trimmed it down to 5 episodes or tossed in more juice. Like What? I’m not sure just feel like something was missing! Great performances by all actors! A horrifying twist on racism. Yes similar to Lovecraft and Us but isn’t that Hollywood at every corner... copy n paste ?! Socially and economically historically accurate from my research (even the pledge of allegiance) taking place in 1953. The added splash of complex subtle humor (white Compton) mixes well with the reality of that time. Making the supernatural horrors far more spooky! Being white and from SoCal, I never really knew what racism even was until we moved in the late 80s. So I pay close attention to these types of social issue movies n shows. Not to feel lower about my own race but to gain perspective. And having this in horror flicks!!? Woo ! thanks to JPeele for getting the ball rolling!!… Expand

    The show is horrifying. The cast shines like the sun on an already perfect world. The story is clear and makes sense. The racism is horrifying the ghosts are also horrifying. The show is plain win for the horror genre. I don’t know if I have been this effected by a show of film for a while.

    The series was a great story of real life migration for black americans with a twist of Horror that relly touches black american viewers. Most of the negative reviews are purely because it touched an emotional trigger with black americans that feel the idea of 'black trauma porn' is offensive to them and dont wantto experience watching lback people murdered anymore. I can totally undestand BUT as a black man myself I want non viewers to see themselves in this light. To see the trauma that actually existed. This is different from most movies that just kill black people with no regard. There is true context in this story of why we as black Americans cant just accept America, because in it's total history it never really accepted us. It pulled an emotional response out of many of it's viewers and that alone should be a tell sign that it actually did a good job at telling the story and being a TRUE horror story for black Americans and a cautionary tale for white Americans to how we got here.… Expand

    The result is a jumbled mess that ends up having nothing to say. If Them is trying to be an allegory of racial tensions in America, then it’s too simplistic; if it’s trying to be a straightforward horror, it’s not simple enough.

    Them spins an engaging concept. powerful performances and visuals to die for. But its obsession with Black trauma leaves everything off-kilter.

    For all Covenant's effectiveness at depicting the insane frustration of black life in America in 1950, it still has multiple failings as a drama, particularly on the supernatural side of story.
