If it wasn't for the fact that the 1st season was entertaining, I would have given the series a 0-score. I played the game three times and read some of the literature. I endured the identity politics of the Netflix series at launch, but IIf it wasn't for the fact that the 1st season was entertaining, I would have given the series a 0-score. I find it utterly disgusting that creatively bankrupt writers abuse not only the public entertainment stage, but also widely loved story-IP and twist it into poorly fabricated concoctions that serve little more than promoting their far-left morally depraved ideology. I wanted to write a detailed review but found myself buried in the mess this series is. It seems like authors chose the Witcher for a cool main hero, Ciri with skills that could excuse a lot and most importantly - a profitable brand.
Why elseI wanted to write a detailed review but found myself buried in the mess this series is. It seems like authors chose the Witcher for a cool main hero, Ciri with skills that could excuse a lot and most importantly - a profitable brand.
Why else bother with calling it an adaptation, if you're trashing the complex world with its relations, characteristics and history, completely change deep, well-based characters for simple and unstable ones and throw away the main plot which binds everything.
Plot feels like the script was created based on a 5-minute summary video of the books, and even that being watched while multi-tasking on a conference call. How I imagine this call:
- Oh, Ciri develops a controlled interdimentional travel capabilities over several years, let's make Stargate out of it, you know, the bad seasons. And make her learn that on the spot while running. Tell her she can do it, because that's how women empowerment should work, right?
- Also, there's not enough people of color. Let's throw away the one's that were actually there in the books and make half of the folk black. No, not the southern nations, the ones in middle-ages-like northern kingdoms. Just not the ones in slums. This will add to realism. Oh, and don't forget the elves.
- What about people with disabilities? Llet's make Dwarves people with dwarf syndrome, with a dwarf woman with a beard. It's not like it's going to offend anyone, right? We can do it because that's more inclusive.

To summarise, I am a huge fan of The Witcher universe and understand that changes are bound to happen in adaptation, like they did in games. They can even add or correct some things in the original. I was disappointed with season one but I gave this series benefit of the doubt. I told myself that altering timeline and changing main character's backstories was supposed to create a solid foundation for season 2 for all viewers. What happened then is not even incompetent, but criminal.… Expand

The first season was somehow good despite the unbalanced attempts to enforce the director opinions and her being unfaithful to the books ...it still had many features which can tell you this is a Witcher books based show .......but season two drove me crazy I felt it is a huge insult for everyone who is a Witcher fan that played the games or read the books ....the Witcher experience is fantastic due to the interwoven story and amazing lore that doesn't create a good and evil rather it creates relatable characters that you can think deeply about that have a backstory which justify its actions ......the season 2 was just the opposite they think of us as stupid people that can't stand multiple sides motives and interests to be taken in consideration ......she just think we are dumb we need a clear good and bad sides which isn't true One more important thing she killed any chance to create a very icinic Witcher series moment in the future to play the gaunther odimms spoon… Expand

In GoT the dialogue was so excellently written and delivered that you almost forgot you were watching actors play characters, the scenes took on a life of their own and became more than the sum of their parts, here you're keenly aware that it's just actors, ESPECIALLY because Henry Cavill insists on doing that voice. It takes you completely out of it when you know for a fact that it's not what he sounds like, it doesn't immerse me because it's silly.… Expand

I enjoyed S1 even though the crisscrossing timeline was annoying. I expected to also enjoy S2 but after a couple of episodes I found it more of a chore to watch so I just lost interest. Not faithful to the books at all. Geralt is a side character in his own show. They focus on Yennifer (who was character assassinated in Season 2) Ciri,and a bunch of boring forgettable side characters with CW level acting.

I don't know why Hollywood has such a hard time sticking to the lore, these books have been immensely successful, they spawned 3 great games which too have been immensely successful, if they copied either the books or the games they'd have less work to do and much higher success, instead the writers/director decided to inject intersectional politics (look it up to see why most modern TV/Movies sucks). Mediocre writing, changing the lore, slow pace, unfortunately this show looks like generic, bland, woke cr*p that you see in all modern entertainment, it's just a fantasy setting with characters that you vaguely know but at the same time they don't act or talk like you think they would. It seems the writers wanted to make their own show which would have failed had they not baited the fans with the Witcher brand. Adding to the pile of revived and desecrated corpses of once great franchises and characters such as Obi-Wan, Star Trek, Willow, we add the Witcher. What else will Hollywood desecrate?… Expand

I have played the Witcher games and read the novels. I know and love the Witcher’s universe.

In adition, Episode 7 (or 6?) of season 3, where Ciri is lost in the desert was especially boring and uninspired.
Worst of all is the woke agenda; among other things, the Witcher's universe is now turning into Wakanda. I don’t recognize it anymore.
I am done with this show; season 3 killed it. I still give one point for season 1; which was decent.… Expand

As a huge fan of the saga I was looking forward to this, but turned out a huge disappointment, I couldn't even finish the 3rd episode. Too much cringe. Acting is the worst I've seen in professional movie-making at this level. Setting nowadays political correctness trend aside, the choice is ridiculous. The saga setting is Slavic, they had books, they had games to take ideas from. It's not racist, but black elves and Indian or Arabic characters don't fit in the story. WTF. It's like watching the 300 movie with Japanese actors.

There was talk of this becoming the new Game of Thrones, instead they created a bad version of Xena the Warrior Princess. That was at least a parody in its own sense and at least watchable.… Expand

Во что они превратили Лютика ? немного раздражаюшего, но всё же верного друга Геральта, помогаюшего и даже спасаюшего Ведьмака в разных передрягах, еще и переодически смеша читателя своими выходками, он превратился в сухого без характерного болвана. А Геральт ? Из холодного, ситуациями аморального убийцы, но всё же имеюшего лучик света в сердце, он стал в тупого альфо-самца, без характерного. Хотя в книге Геральт был не красивым и страшным. А Йэниффер ? Из ослепительной красавицы, в тоже, просто СУХУЮ неинтересную и тупую бабу, стервозную и бесишею. Про остальные очаровательные, вподающие в душу рассказы о похождениях ведьмака, говорить не приходится. Что говорить про любовную, трагичную, любовную линию Геральта и Эсси ? Про Нивеллена ? Золотого Дракона ? Прочитав эти истории, они глубоко трогают прямо в сердце чатателя, оставаясь там навсегда. Весь сок, обояния, юмор и мораль книг, был высосан, износилован, и выброшенна в помойку. Позор Нетфликс. Это просто неимоверный талант, взять, и настолько испаганнить итак готовую и принесенную на блюдечке историю. Мне искренне жаль что Ведьмак, так и не обзовелся достоиной экранизацией, как Властелин колец, Игра престолов, Гарри Поттер и другие фэнтези саги. Остаётся лишь надеется что когда-нибудь, всё же эта поистинне прекрасная серия книг получит достоиную экранизацию. А я пойду читать книги. Нетфликсу, ПОЗОР!… Expand

Had this been a new, original brand, it would still be an average title at the very most most. But if one wants to lean on an existing brand, one must be prepared to be judgeded by it's standard. There is no room for excuses like "but it is not supposed to be to similar to the games". If so: drop the "Witcher" title as bait for viewers. You cannot have it both ways. We have been promised a "Witcher" movie, we have been served something else entirely. Naming the characters alike and squeezing in (with little logical justification) some of the action scenes from the game/books is not a believeable "magic trick". It's and easy run for your money.

Furthermore, this show takes itself so seriously. Not at all as the books or even the game. Enormous waste of time. The best thing about this show, that it is so bad when compared to the original, that a lot people went back to reread the books, just to cleanse themself from this S-word of a show.

If there was ever a re-try, the only thing I would like to see is Anya back. And no: not Jaskier (although I know this is an unpopular opinion).… Expand

Season 2 was enough to discourage me from watching season 3, even more so after hearing how bad Blood Origins turned out to be. I had high hopes for the show but it may be sometime before we get another adaption that may be closer to the novels.… Expand

Просто в шоке, да даже ведьмак 2001 года с бюджетом в 3000 рублей выглядит на уровень выше "этого чуда от нетфликс", да что уж там, первые 10 минут взрослого кино по ведьмаку выглядят синемой по сравнению с тем, что сняли нетфликс с бюджетом и возможностями, которые у них были. Я сгорел, когда увидел оценку 8 на мете, каво? Серьезно? 8? Почему не все 12? Но это объяснимо и если немножко подумать нисколько не удивительно, большая часть аудитории нетфликс приходится на запад, если не вся, и поэтому лицимерная Хиссрич, которая сначала: "все по книгам, по канону"-, а потом биполярочка, удалила твит, и теперь посылает всех кому не зашел сериал на одно место, которым Геральт пользуется чаще, чем своими мечами, купила Сапковского, который теперь дефает ее, (я вот одно не понимаю, почему пану настолько po×ui на свое наследие) и вместо славянского фентези мы получили западное - с азиатами, французами негритянского происхождения, гендерфлюидными вертосексуалами низушками/краснолюдами и не важно, что события происходят в северных землях вымышленного средневековья, вообщем все как положено, с расчетом на современную, иДуЩей в нОгУ со времнем западную аудиторию, которая оценит это и схавает, а потом еще ньфаги подтянуться, либо каинд оф челы, которые только по игровой серии знают вселенную, они будут с пеной у рта заявлять 10/10, мастерпис, маствоч, опиум для народа, не зная оригинала. Вот на таких и рассчитан был этот "контент" и его успешно схавали. Без негатива. Ну да ладно, хватит иронии. Если даже абстрагироваться от вселенной ведьмака, забыть все, прочитанные книги, васянмейд сериалы, кстати даже они лукс прети гуд на фоне **** абсолютно все забыть, и начать знакомство с ведьмаком с сериала от нетфликс, то в теории, в теории, можно поставить оценку чуть выше, чем зелёному слонику, лайтхаус ему пухом.… Expand

Don't let them fool you, for once I agree with critics, this show is kind'a bad. Literally every character aside of Geralt is grossly miscasted. Also creators doesn't seem to take the fantasy elements seriously, I mean Dryads and elves can be black, I don't care but what I do care about is consistency, the Dryads are black and white?! This is not a group of humans with pointy ears, this is a whole other race, they either should look all the same, or you should at least try to explain why they are so different from one another, it doesn't make any sense. All of this, combined with inexplicable behavior of some characters and cheesy dialogues with feminist propaganda shoved in here and there made me feel like I'm watching some social justice fan-fiction, rather than competent adaptation. The redeeming factors are how Henry Cavill portrays Geralt (although i miss the cat eyes) and some smaller-scale fighting scenes. Overall below average - watch out of curiosity, if you must, but if you're a Witcher fan maybe don't do this to yourself.… Expand

The plot jumps all over the place, with three different timelines. The jumping makes absolutely zero sense. There was no reason to film it this way and it just confuses most people. The dialogue is trash, there are so many blacks in this that it goes from confusing tokenism to pathetic pandering, and the only person who can act (surprise, it's Cavill) has a script that is ninety percent composed of grunts and single word mutterings of ****.

The biggest problem of the series - instead of taking the best parts of the original books and videogames, creators took worst of them. Most of the time you watch something that should be called not "THE WITCHER", but "Yen the Sorcerer, the Kings, and, well, there is also witcher-guy somewhere, but you shouldn't care too much". And it is boring as hell to watch, even when you're trying to forget about the original. It was a problem of some of the books too, but at least not the first THREE of them, which were full of great stories about ACTUAL GERALT. And what happened to the normal step-by-step story, what the horrible mess it is? Is it scenario or the Montage-guy just mixed scenes randomly? There is some good moments, but i guess 5th episode became final to me, at least for now. If the books and the games were anything like this series - I'm pretty sure, the franchise would never have become so popular.… Expand

Even ignoring the cast, the SJW agenda, the fact that few/none Slavic people have been cast in the SLAVIC-Central european based universe, the series itself is pretty awful. The writing is very dumbed down compared to the books, and many scenes have been simplified to be more casual-friendly. The timeline changes are awful, you get to a climactic point and suddenly it switches to another timeline, it's frustrating because it feels like the story keeps getting fragmented. The music is mediocre at best, they used your usual "fantasy" music instead of more traditional, medieval, folk music, it lacks any character. The overall filming technique doesn't feel right, too bright images, again, seems like your average Hollywood fantasy series, while the Witcher universe should have a much darker feeling, picture a bleak rainy day in a remote eastern European village. The CGI is hit or miss, but that Sylviann was absolutely ridiculous, made me laugh more then anything. The characters are forgetable, the acting is average at best, except Henry Cavill who is the ONLY redeeming feature of this series. He does make a GREAT Geralt, and it really shows that he read the books/played the games/was really into the universe before they filmed. Not the same can be said for the rest of the cast. If I was a casual watcher with zero knowledge of the Witcher universe, would have probably gave it a 5-6/10. But I had very high hopes for this, been waiting for years for a true high-budget adaption, and this was truly a crushing dissapointment.… Expand

I love it when titles of media are missleading. Series is called the witcher but should be named "adventures of witches, with cavill inbetween". costumes look like second hand taken from LoTR & GoT. screeplay is comedy gold, but if you´reI love it when titles of media are missleading. Made not by fans, not for fans. Miscast. Cahir Mawr Dyffryn aep Ceallach - can you imagine that guy, he is from Nilfgaard Empire in East, played by pure Nordic guy. And I am not talking about Gypsy Witches from Northern kingdoms , for real.Made not by fans, not for fans. Miscast. Moreover, like 3 or 4 different timelines at the same time on screen, not separated. I can only imagine how those who didn't read a books differ them.

All great events which look big and epic in books, look poor in series. What they did with Borch (Villentretenmerth), a "Smaug" of Witcher books, then the miserable lizard in Netflix, which can't do anything. The same mistake in Pavetta's wedding, and, OMG "Battle of Sodden Hill" just disgusting.

It was given to wrong hands. As a fan, I can't forgive the people who did this piece of trash.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Никогда не видел такой бездарной адаптации книги!! Сценаристы убралили все лушее из сериала. Но засунули туда не конаничного главного героя, не обяснили поледовательность действий персонажей. О описании эльфов и дреад в книге и их адаптации сцеристов я лучше промочу. Потому что тут без эмоций я не могу. Одним словом сняли срашную дичь и говно!!! И это я мочу про непонятный доспех Нильф Гарда.

I've never seen such a mediocre adaptation of a book!! The writers removed all the Loos from the series. But they did not put the conanical main character there, they did not explain the poledovatelnost of the characters ' actions. About the description of elves and dreads in the book and their adaptation of the scerists, I'd rather get wet. Because I can't do it without emotion. In a word, they took off the game and **** And I'm talking about the strange armor of Nilf Gard.… Expand

I've always imagined the Universe of the Witcher dark, cruel and Polish, with foggy landscapes fantasy charachter and nocturnal monster somethimes ready to devoure or kill some not so innocent paesants and some other times to be persecuted byI've always imagined the Universe of the Witcher dark, cruel and Polish, with foggy landscapes fantasy charachter and nocturnal monster somethimes ready to devoure or kill some not so innocent paesants and some other times to be persecuted by the racism and the purges of that not so innocent paesants leaded by some moody kings ready to be at war at any time. The strenght of the book of Sapkowski was to show this universe through the eyes of Geralt, each character was at the mercy of the events that served as an expedient to tell about of our own society. Unfortunately from the first episode of this tv series it is clear that the direction taken is that, as in many other American TV series (see star trek: discovery and the last season of Game of thrones), to put individual characters at the center of all events. Placing once again the personal events of the characters above the universe itself created by Sapkowski. The world of The Witcher does not exist in relation of Geralt but it is Geralt, and the other charachters, that exists in relation of his world.
In the other hand I've found pleasant the decision to merge the first two books for the first season with a non-chronological timeline.… Expand

Абсолютно посредственная реализация вселенной, все персонажи выглядят как идиоты с непонятной мотивацией и полностью отбитым представлением о логике и практически нулевым раскрытием по сравнению с книгами,играми. Если бы не большой багаж из перечитанных по несколько раз книг и сотни часов в играх- понять устройство мира, политическую обстановку, быт совершенно невозможно, о чем этот сериал??? что творят герои, почему я должен им сопереживать? Что меня здесь должно зацепить? Собрание кукол в спектакле. И это при ТАКОМ первоисточнике. Я очень люблю эту вселенную, она моя любимая и мне крайне печально смотреть на подобную реализацию. 1 балл за чеканную монету и попытку некоторых актеров качество отыгрывать абсолютно бездарный сценарий и постановку.… Expand
