This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Glad the team changed the Nilfgaardian armor into how it's supposed to look. It now does not appear to be a vagabond's decomposed black turd. Henry Cavill is still perfect as Geralt. He also talks more now which is a welcome change. Freya Allan as Ciri is starting to fit her role. She is gorgeously badass but there are still scenes where her acting seems a bit dry. I like Jaskier's songs here. The CGI and fight scenes are nice. I still hate how the writers make up their own **** Seriously? Ciri will burst this world in flames? She's supposed to end everything in Frost. You have the creative freedom to change stuff but bear in mind that most people who watch and understand The Witcher are fans of the games and books. I still enjoy this season though but it could have been better. And please minimize the misplaced F-bombs. It's cringy to hear when everyone just drops it too much. They sound like kids who crave attention. All the other witchers here appear to be weak little illogical beatches. Even when Eskel became a leshen he always screams like a whiny girl. Wtf Netflix. Do not murder this masterpiece of a game and book. Expand

I think, especially in contrast to Season 1, S2 is amazing and delightful. The haters miss that The Witcher world and mythos made the story special, not the reverse. The show perfectly protects and projects the gnarled gritty heart of why we love The Witcher, while remaining true to the overall arc. The true crime committed and shame is the haters unable to understand these cosmetic plot changes augment the authentic archetypal beauty behind the series. The arc of the narrative and it's form (short stories, novels, POVs) is disjointed in the books, and as we saw in season one that doesn't translate well to the screen. The superficial plot changes serve to incorporate the world in a way that serves the arc- or at worst is entertaining without hurting it. Sadly, haters miss out on this in order to nitpick. Also, let me say I've read the books more than a few times, to establish my cred to criticize the critics here. Expand

I think they did him dirty making him look weak, greedy etc. Same for eskel who is a smart witcher but here he is displayed as a horny noob witcher. The geralt and ciri scenes were by far the best this season has to offer and i hoped the training would have been longer because i always like the master & student situations in movies&series.
Overall a ton of flaws but still enjoyable enough for me to actually be hooked a bit.

Witcher season 2 is a deep dive into Geralt suddenly having to deal with his responsibilities, he now must care and protect for his child surprise - Ciri, he must be more than the loner he is portrayed in season 1 and must become a father figure for Ciri. They do a good job of showing the transformation of his character - he starts actually communicating with others in a different way, rather than boorishly grunting (which was a criticism of the first season). I wouldnt say there is a moment in Season 2 you could really say is "filler" or this is a filler scene to make the episode last longer, every scene is important and well worth the time investment. My overall assessment is that for people that have not read the books this is one of the most enjoyable TV shows you can stream at the moment - the difficult to follow timelines of season 1 have gone, and replaced with a linear story. If you are, however, an avid reader of the books - you may not like this season - it does stretch the phrase "we have kept to the source material" almost to breaking point. Hence the mixed reviews already available here and other review sites. I have read the books and I must admit at certain points I found myself questioning the decisions that had been made - it will take some time to see if it was worth it in the long run. But I do understand that what makes a good book doesn't transfer to TV that well. As for the stars - Henry Cavills performance and the emotional range he can deliver is incredible - He has become synonymous with Geralt at this point and deservedly so. Freya Allan's (Ciri) abilities as a young actress were tested in this season and she absolutely nailed it. My favourite performance of the season was Kim Bodnia playing Vesemir, it might be because he is my favourite character in the books and games but he did an amazing job at bringing the character to life. Overall, the 2nd season of "The Witcher" takes a very good step forward. The narrative structure is now clearer (although the first season also had a charm with it). I have noticed how the season improved a lot in terms of making it more dynamic and creative and perhaps moving away from the original plot since adding the books as such would be impossible since the first book is mini stories of the adventures of Geralt and the later ones already speak of the main plot preceded by many secondary characters throughout the story which in the Netflix seriesI have noticed how the season improved a lot in terms of making it more dynamic and creative and perhaps moving away from the original plot since adding the books as such would be impossible since the first book is mini stories of the adventures of Geralt and the later ones already speak of the main plot preceded by many secondary characters throughout the story which in the Netflix series corrects giving more participation to Ciri and Yennifer as well as the emphasis of their motivation is that they will be seen throughout the episodes also something that saddened me It was the death of a sorcerer which was very important but this is used as a catalyst for the plot to advance and therefore I see it admirable by the writers so that we have a more interesting plot taking into account the books and CD games project which in this second season many more easter eggs are shown. All characters are and remain phenomenally cast and fit perfectly into the ambience. Atmospheric and storytelling, the season does a lot right and introduced some cool monsters and characters. Sometimes it's incredibly brutal.

Only the very fast narrative style is irritating, since so many topics have already been dropped. I would also have liked a bit more down-to-earth, with Geralt taking on one or the other job.

All in all a very good continuation and I'm looking forward to more! 9/10 monsters.

    * Selective cast diversity continues, with many darker-skinned actors with weird accents being part of a dark, cloudy and wintery land, yet no Asian actors.

But it's far from a "bad show" as many angry fans are labeling it. The plot pacing and direction have improved a lot from Season 1. There is definitely a continuity in the episodes, and sense of direction.

Acting is generally ok, I personally enjoy Cavill's Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, Jaskier, Triss, Vesemir, Dijkstra, Cahir are all very easy to watch.
Fringila, Vingelfortz, Triss, Tissaia and the other mages are very mediocre.
Francesca, Filavandrel, Dara, generally the elves, are very bad, thankfully they don't get a lot of screentime.

I don't agree with the cast selection and the producer's "diversity for the sake of diversity" policy, it's annoying at times (Dara, I'm looking at you), but in my eyes it's not enough to condemn the show.

Overall, it's about 10 hrs of entertainment, we've had a lot of fun watching it, and I'd say it's definitely worth a watch. Probably it's not going to be memorable, but it doesn't have to be.

Watching the foundation get laid isn’t always exciting, but it does feel like showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is building toward rousing sequences and cares about each of the characters equally. Whether you feel the same doesn’t really matter. “The Witcher” is in it for the long haul, and even if Season 2 feels longer than it should, you won’t regret the ride.
