This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I know there is a lot of wokeness on the show casting selection, but to my surprise, was a lot better than the first, with only a main character (well two that might anger hardcore readers, in a way, I understand it, Yennefer for example, I will never understand, why they try to make her out of character likeable, when the Lannister proves, that you can be a bastard and beloved, and Eskel there's a lot of fun with him in both games and books and Now is gone forever, for some woke nobody Witcher who might replace him) from the original books and games been sacrifice.

I happy to report that the season just scratch the surface and might give more seasons come and yet give some bone to eat to the normies. The change from the script I liked more, at least the woke Characters are doing a lot more than the original characters on the first season, in general an excellent season to be honest with a good story been told from it, Henry kept his word... I do recommend though, that read the damn books and played the games, those media deserves to turn you into a show hater...

I will preface my statement saying I haven’t read the books. As a stand alone I enjoyed it nevertheless. At times the writing around the female mages made me cringe and needs to be improved moving forward. The production value this season was a dramatic improvement from the previous season. The story line and monster remained interesting throughout each episode.

    * The plot can be incomprehensible at times, but not as much as in S1.
    * Some plotlines are straight-up useless (e.g. Dara) and some useless scenes.
    * Selective cast diversity continues, with many darker-skinned actors with weird accents being part of a dark, cloudy and wintery land, yet no Asian actors.

But it's far from a "bad show" as many angry fans are labeling it. The plot pacing and direction have improved a lot from Season 1. There is definitely a continuity in the episodes, and sense of direction.

Acting is generally ok, I personally enjoy Cavill's Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, Jaskier, Triss, Vesemir, Dijkstra, Cahir are all very easy to watch.
Fringila, Vingelfortz, Triss, Tissaia and the other mages are very mediocre.
Francesca, Filavandrel, Dara, generally the elves, are very bad, thankfully they don't get a lot of screentime.

I don't agree with the cast selection and the producer's "diversity for the sake of diversity" policy, it's annoying at times (Dara, I'm looking at you), but in my eyes it's not enough to condemn the show.

Overall, it's about 10 hrs of entertainment, we've had a lot of fun watching it, and I'd say it's definitely worth a watch. Probably it's not going to be memorable, but it doesn't have to be.

They do a good job of showing the transformation of his character - he starts actually communicating with others in a different way, rather than boorishly grunting (which was a criticism of the first season). I wouldnt say there is a moment in Season 2 you could really say is "filler" or this is a filler scene to make the episode last longer, every scene is important and well worth the time investment. My overall assessment is that for people that have not read the books this is one of the most enjoyable TV shows you can stream at the moment - the difficult to follow timelines of season 1 have gone, and replaced with a linear story. If you are, however, an avid reader of the books - you may not like this season - it does stretch the phrase "we have kept to the source material" almost to breaking point. Hence the mixed reviews already available here and other review sites. I have read the books and I must admit at certain points I found myself questioning the decisions that had been made - it will take some time to see if it was worth it in the long run. But I do understand that what makes a good book doesn't transfer to TV that well. As for the stars - Henry Cavills performance and the emotional range he can deliver is incredible - He has become synonymous with Geralt at this point and deservedly so. Freya Allan's (Ciri) abilities as a young actress were tested in this season and she absolutely nailed it. My favourite performance of the season was Kim Bodnia playing Vesemir, it might be because he is my favourite character in the books and games but he did an amazing job at bringing the character to life. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all... it's better than season 1. Slightly.

I've read the books, I played the games. But I do my best to judge this as an its own thing.

And as a thing of its own... it's very flawed. The writing is sometimes ridiculously bad, like when Yennefer escapes the presence of kings without magic. Where the **** is security? Her whole plot feels very fillery and weird too this season.

The way Geralt comes to rescue Yennefer and Ciri in episode 7 is so stupid. Why then and there? It's so random. Yennefer and Ciri got to Cintra with a portal, while Geralt travelled mostly on foot and horses... and they happened to get there RIGHT as Ciri and Yennefer was in trouble. What? Why? I mean... Who thought this was a good idea?

And the next episode, seeing Geralt and Yennefer arrive to Kaer Morhan from Cintra feels like... they've been on the road for 30 minutes, instead of months most likely.

And the whole final battle felt very Marvel-esque. Big CGI monsters, lol. Come on...

Anyway, I did like the increase in budget, slightly better pacing, and Geralt and Ciri.

While it's not 100% accurate and necessarily sticking to source material, it's fresh, it's new and it's exciting. Now that was a great season, Henry's performance was great as always, we have a more straightforward story, loved seeing more of Triss, the new witchers we're something I was looking for and Kim Bodnia as Vesemir was a great cast. Needed a bit more from Yen-Geralt in terms of screen time.
I still don't like Freya Allan as Ciri but I'll get over it.
KAER MORHEN WAS BEAUTIFUL!! Just plain perfect.
And appreciated The wild hunt's appearance, I didn't like his aesthetic very much, wanted something more close to the game, cause this looked a bit cheap like a... Netflix adaption.

Only the very fast narrative style is irritating, since so many topics have already been dropped. I would also have liked a bit more down-to-earth, with Geralt taking on one or the other job.

Since season one, the story-telling has improved tremendously but still lacks complex world-building, character motivations, and evident stakes that are required for great fantasy narrative. This show lacks all of that, and even the best acting and stage design cannot make up for it.

There has to be a greater explanation of the different kingdoms, their relationship to one another, their leaders and their goals, as well as a clear explanation of the laws and limitations of magic and what is at stake in this conflict.

If this foundation is not built, it will never be able to meet, much less surpass, original material quality.

I was very impressed by this season, only to come here and find so many people complaining about it. Guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Metacritic user scores are more about people with tiny voices spouting off than giving an actual decent review. I even hear people talking about wokeness. You want to see actual wokeness, go check out that piece of trash Wheel of Time series on Amazon. You want to see an adaptation that pointlessly and detrimentally deviates from its source material? Same place.

The Witcher though, went from good in season 1 to great in season 2. This season really focused on the relationship between Geralt and Ciri, which is the crux of the entire series, and delved into Ciri’s bloodline in tantalizing snippets. The moment to moment is harder hitting, the politics are interesting, and so is the world. While I had some reservations about the cast originally, no longer. They’re nailing it! The writing and directing are both excellent. I do have some complaints about the narrative deviating from the source material, but that certainly doesn’t negate how great this season otherwise was.

Season 2 leaves plenty of intriguing threads to weave into season 3 that I just can’t wait to see!

The second season is better than the first in every way. Costumes, graphics, battles with monsters, a bunch of charismatic heroes, a consistent storyline that leaves no questions. Creators got rid of the dragon scrotums, although the current armor is still far from ideal.

The Witcher S2 is fantastic and much better than the mediocre first season. The technical aspects are day and night, better writing and cast direction.

The best stories tell tales of the ‘human condition’. Even genres - sci-fi and fantasy, that skirt the confines of our imaginations are not exempt from this. Season 2 Witcher excelled in this. Even genres - sci-fi and fantasy, that skirt the confines of our imaginations are not exempt from this. Season 2 Witcher excelled in this. It dealt with Ciri’s reluctance, the burning need to flee from the truth about herself (her quest for something other than what she truly is, her desires to learn the sword, her desires to be a great fighter, her even more damning desire of wanting to be a Witcher). It reeked of escapism. Anything to deny the past that haunts her still. Her fear, her denial defined her. Geralt’s thread is singular, one pulled taut during the fading embers of the prior season. He has come to rue his initial forsaking of destiny. For the character whose name is on the door, his storyline emerges as the dullest of the characters. But this is deliberate and it is obvious Mr Cavill played his role to the T. Just as diehard fan of the game would have loved.

This season adds colour to fringe characters. Turns wooden elements into bundles of flesh brimming with mixed emotions. It showcased faith v personal ambition. (Fringilla). Highlighted the pain of maternal loss (Francesca). Accentuated Yennefer’s hunger for relevance even at the expense of her grey morals. In the end The Witcher 2 is ticks all the right boxes. It is a resounding 8 for me.

I have noticed how the season improved a lot in terms of making it more dynamic and creative and perhaps moving away from the original plot since adding the books as such would be impossible since the first book is mini stories of the adventures of Geralt and the later ones already speak of the main plot preceded by many secondary characters throughout the story which in the Netflix seriesI have noticed how the season improved a lot in terms of making it more dynamic and creative and perhaps moving away from the original plot since adding the books as such would be impossible since the first book is mini stories of the adventures of Geralt and the later ones already speak of the main plot preceded by many secondary characters throughout the story which in the Netflix series corrects giving more participation to Ciri and Yennifer as well as the emphasis of their motivation is that they will be seen throughout the episodes also something that saddened me It was the death of a sorcerer which was very important but this is used as a catalyst for the plot to advance and therefore I see it admirable by the writers so that we have a more interesting plot taking into account the books and CD games project which in this second season many more easter eggs are shown. I've read the books, and I've just finished up Season 2, and I have to say I'm really impressed with both. Both are works of art in their own right. It is true that the show deviates from the books in a few areas, but I think that is the point of art. If you don't interpret and make it something new, nothing is gained. I thought the show was spectacularly acted, the plot was really engaging in new ways, and its inspired me to go back to the books because the world, the lore, and the characters are so interesting.

At the end of the day, the show is fantastic. I hope it inspires a new generation of readers to pick up Sapkowski's books, and CD Projekt Red's games. It's quite an amazing universe they've built, and I can't wait to see what they've got lined up next.

I think, especially in contrast to Season 1, S2 is amazing and delightful. The haters miss that The Witcher world and mythos made the story special, not the reverse. The show perfectly protects and projects the gnarled gritty heart of why we love The Witcher, while remaining true to the overall arc. The true crime committed and shame is the haters unable to understand these cosmetic plot changes augment the authentic archetypal beauty behind the series. The arc of the narrative and it's form (short stories, novels, POVs) is disjointed in the books, and as we saw in season one that doesn't translate well to the screen. The superficial plot changes serve to incorporate the world in a way that serves the arc- or at worst is entertaining without hurting it. Sadly, haters miss out on this in order to nitpick. Also, let me say I've read the books more than a few times, to establish my cred to criticize the critics here. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Glad the team changed the Nilfgaardian armor into how it's supposed to look. It now does not appear to be a vagabond's decomposed black turd. Henry Cavill is still perfect as Geralt. He also talks more now which is a welcome change. Freya Allan as Ciri is starting to fit her role. She is gorgeously badass but there are still scenes where her acting seems a bit dry. I like Jaskier's songs here. The CGI and fight scenes are nice. I still hate how the writers make up their own **** Seriously? Ciri will burst this world in flames? She's supposed to end everything in Frost. You have the creative freedom to change stuff but bear in mind that most people who watch and understand The Witcher are fans of the games and books. I still enjoy this season though but it could have been better. And please minimize the misplaced F-bombs. It's cringy to hear when everyone just drops it too much. They sound like kids who crave attention. All the other witchers here appear to be weak little illogical beatches. Even when Eskel became a leshen he always screams like a whiny girl. Wtf Netflix. Watching the foundation get laid isn’t always exciting, but it does feel like showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is building toward rousing sequences and cares about each of the characters equally. Whether you feel the same doesn’t really matter. “The Witcher” is in it for the long haul, and even if Season 2 feels longer than it should, you won’t regret the ride.
