Well crafted battle scenes. Very well acted. This show is amazing. The plot line can be a little hard to follow with the jumping in time. The show seems to be mostly faithful to the books with a few noticeable differences. Henry Cavill kills it as Geralt.

Terrible writing, terrible casting, absolutely revolting. Shame to see such a good setting get this kind of treatment.

Well done. Different than what people may be used to as it is higher fantasy than mainstream tv/critics are used to....evokes the best of the game (especially Wild Hunt).

This show is fundamentally not good for Witcher fans or new viewers, they do not world build for new viewers and just spout of witchery words like they should know what they are. Expand

    Actors play cool!

This is a well done show. The acting, combat, special effects are all great. The one issue that I see is that the narrative may be difficult for people who are not familiar with the witcher universe to follow. I have played the games and read all the short stories. I have played the games and read all the short stories. Most of the episodes are based on the short stories and therefore it was a lot easier for me to follow what was going on. In addition, the season contains time jumps within episodes without even making it clear to the viewer that is what is happening. This along with a lack of exposition about the world can make it difficult for someone new to the witcher to fully comprehend just how important some of the events they are seeing are to the world of the show. It would have been helpful if the writing had more world building in it for people who have no background knowledge about the witcher universe. The violence may be a bit too intense for some and this is not a show where people usually get to live happily ever after. All in all I think its worth watching the show and the more you learn about the world of the witcher the more it will all start to make sense and begin to click. I gave a score of 10. The show is worth a 9 but unfortunately you have people leaving zeros (there is no way a zero is justified) which just screws up the overall rating system Expand

I really liked the tv show, violence and sex packed in good pictures.
Much of the enthusiasm comes from the fact that I know the characters from Witcher 3 and have loved them, Gerald, Yen and Ciri have been implemented very well.

I did not expect a miracle, but still it’s bad.

Henry does a pretty good job, but the rest aren't very good at elves.
I don’t even want to discuss the plot

It's not completely dumbed down and Cavill is actually great. But it looks cheap, writing is mediocre, music forgettable and the trademark Witcher vibe is just not there. It's clear the people responsible saw the show as just another job, instead of a spiritual mission like CD Projekt Red did with Witcher 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Series is trying to be the next Game of Thrones, which is pointless because Witcher books are completely different story and also fails as a GoT rip off. Messy storyline, empty scenography, lack of atmosphere, I didn't like it.

Rare to see an actor with so much passion about the character he's playing. I feel it shows in his performance and was definitely pleasantly surprised.
I understand that this is getting and probably going to continue getting review bombed because it doesn't stay 100% true to the books but neither did the Lord of The Rings films or Harry Potter or Game of Thrones. I enjoy this and all of

I enjoy this and all of those others because they are their own thing. I don't need a scene by scene replication of a book in film version. The games aren't identical to the books and they're still strong. I think this is off to a good start and I hope they build strongly on these foundations.

The acting is great, the practical and digital effects are fantastic, the scripting, although not perfect, is rivetting and compelling.
Cant wait for Season 2 and beyond!

Good work on books adaptation, amazing performance from actors, interesting to watch at all. Series got minor disadvanteges, hovewer more good things. Witcher doesn't deserve all this hate from another "angry internet army warriors, ahrrrr". It just nice, brave enough with violence and universe from Anjey Sapkovsky book series. Hope to see season 2, peace everyone and calm down.

I don`t want to write a lot about that fact that the casting completely disagrees with descriptions of characters in series of novels. That is just one of disadvantages. Hell with it! I want to pay more attention to the hypocrisy of the showrunners. I read plenty of times that the book’s plot would be adapted to the scenario, but….Is it really possible to spoil the story so badly? Just total discrepancy.

    1. Renfri. Are you serious? How can you surpass in lying the story?
    2. Yennefer can fight with a sword and pirouette. What?? Are you sure that you have read books?
    3. The Dragon. Do you really call that thing a dragon? Is it really an ancient creature? It looks like more like a hen.
    4. The pursuers with portal openings. What?? How long can you lie about book adaption? Or do you really consider an adaption that 50% ad libbing that you squeezed in the TV series?
    5. I remember the vividly described episode of capturing Ciri by Cahir in Cintra. I remember that she woke up in a cold sweat after that. And what am I watching now? It's awful. It is illustrated in such an awful manner that I can`t describe. You are professionals, aren’t you? How could you make such a ham-fisted film?
    6. Borch three jackdaws… jinn…wishes… Are you putting me on? I can’t really get how you can surpass in lying and spoil the story?

Well let's finish the list. Although I can go on for a long time and tell more about the facts of the book's plot sophisticating.
At year-end 2019 you made a film version of a very popular saga. In fact you made visuals more like of trash films approximately 2005 year. Sometimes the visuals are so terrible that I gonna put my eyes out.
The whole story-telling in TV series is quite an inconsequent one. There is lack of Witcher setting. In the fan film Alzur's legacy I can see it. And please note, the project was developed by fans for fans.

I don’t want to describe much how awful and characterless the book`s characters were adapted. Yennefers from book and TV series are two completely different persons. Henry Cavill tries to play his role but he tries too hard.
You have just spoiled and eaten for breakfast the saga. I definitely will not recommend anyone to watch it.
It looks like facts were taken from books and were given to ham-fisted person who didn’t know anything about these books. And then the person tried to create the book using those facts. In fact we have something with the same names but a completely different thing.

It takes a while for viewers to learn how these characters are connected, via an exasperating Westworld-esque narrative knot that takes much of the season to unfurl. ... The Witcher heightens our confusion by fumbling details that would have helped it set a cohesive tone. Dialogue vacillates, from line to line, between theatrical fantasy-speak and modern colloquialisms (“Dragons are, in fact, a thing!”).
