Many reviewers are getting hung up on whether this is isn't enough like the games or the books. Lets leave that behind, this is the TV show and we should review it in isolation.

Overall this is very well written but newcomers to the series will find it hard to grasp the timelines and relationships between characters in the first few episodes. Overall the writing is good and only improves as the timeline becomes clearer and story arcs begin to converge.
Henry Cavill is perfect as Geralt of Rivia, an absolutely spot on, flawless performance of what i hope will become an iconic character. Other characters have peaks and troughs. Joey Batey as Jaskier (Dandelion) captures his character perfectly, but we don't see enough of him as the show progresses. Anya Chalotra as Yen starts strong, dips in the middle and improves again towards the end. Freya Allen as Ciri leaves a lot to be desired, and the character is difficult to like as a result (which will be a problem if she is to be a focus going forward). Some characters are completely lackluster (Triss and Fringilla to name a few).

Fans of the books and games will also be quick to point out the changes in certain characters appearances, which isn't a problem in and of itself, but the actors they have hired just simply cant capture the essence of the characters they are trying to portray.

Overall this is a great first season that has plenty of room to grow in a fantasy world rich with stories to be told. Realistically its an 8 out of 10, but I have given it a 10 to help offset some of the ridiculously reviews by those obsessed by the books/games.

Netflix's The Witcher packs every scene with heart, rich dialogue, and characters (even minor ones) in whom you can't help but become invested. While some directorial choices didn't quite work, everything else about the show is so masterfully crafted that it's easy to forgive. The cast is perfect, the spirit of the books is evident, and the set up for season 2 has me dreading the year-long wait.

    Well,

As someone who initially discovered the Witcher as a series of games (I got them all on sale on Steam). I was in for a wonderful ride and I’m thankful I discovered this series. I am a massive Sci-Fi and high-fantasy aficionado, I’ve read all the Song of Ice and Fire novels (very gory and more short-term based), all of Tolkien’s masterpieces, and a few more independent novels.

I am a massive Sci-Fi and high-fantasy aficionado, I’ve read all the Song of Ice and Fire novels (very gory and more short-term based), all of Tolkien’s masterpieces, and a few more independent novels. Suffice to say, the Witcher series was much more in depth, more robust, and more “fantasy” than the rest, and I’m thankful something as mundane as a video game introduced me to Andrzej Sapkowski‘s works.

And this Netflix series, while of course different than the novels and the games (yes, people need to realize that tv and movies will be different than source material as they are different mediums), is amazing. The Netflix series does Sapkowski’s novels and short stories Justice. I give kudos to the writers and the actors of this series for remaining true to the source material. Special to note Henry Cavill’s outstanding performance as Geralt of Rivia, which outdoes his performances as Superman in the DC universe.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend this series to anyone. Of course, due to my personal taste and preference for this genre, I realize not everyone may enjoy this. Nonetheless, I implore everyone to watch this series, who knows, you may find yourself addicted to it.

Excellent show. Henry Cavill does an amazing job portraying Geralt. The visuals, the directing, the music, they all make you feel like you’re there. Each scene teaches you something new about the world around and makes you want to hear more. Can’t wait for season 2! Good job, Netflix.

I think it was a generally well-made series. the fans of books and video games are surely satisfied. although I guess they burned all the budget hiring Henry Cavill as Geralt so the rest of casting isn't so strong. its a must watch for all fantasy lovers

This show is amazing, it did what shows are supposed to do, it took a person that had never heard of this story franchise, and made it to where I can't wait for more. Well done Netflix, now don't screw it up like they did with GOT.

Pretty good, worth watching. Not quite a 10 but I'll give it a 10 for Henry Cavill. He is doing a pretty good Geralt. I like that they are working a lot on building all the characters and it is not "The Geralt Show". The show could be a lot better but imagine how bad it could have been in this times. I guess we need to appreciate when someone does not directly **** on the fandom.

Wow. Firstly it’s not perfect but as a fan of the books and games it’s everything I wanted. I’m not a diversity person I don’t care for forced things but this was really natural and fitting I did it care out the racial changes. Henry is Geralt he knows him in and out and it’s an awesome series. Want more after watching all of it the opening day. Watch it it’s great.

I’m not sure what books these folks read that are giving the show a zero rating? Many of the user reviews say the show is too much of a departure from the source material. Who cares if they jumble the stories around to make more sense for a show.

What I believe these people mean is that they are angry the show wasn’t cast “white enough”. Yennefer isn’t the pale sorceress as described in the books, Triss is changed to a person of color. There are many others I suppose. I think the cast was great! NONE of the changes effect the story in any way, shape or form. I maybe would have an issue with the main character being changed because his look is so iconic at this point.

My actual score is an 8 for the show, but to help offset the spammed zero scores I’m giving it a 10. The acting is GREAT. I can’t think of one actor who didn’t do fantastic. The storytelling moves a bit slow and feels disjointed at times, I would think especially for those unfamiliar with the books. The lighting and color grading are very good and consistent.

The effects are mostly good. All are high enough quality for a show like this. The practical effects are superb (the Striga fight!) but the cgi is a mixed bag. Cgi creatures are passable for the most part, but if you are hoping for GOT level Dragons and cgi you will be disappointed. The atmospheric and environmental cgi effects are fantastic, however. From the spell effects to the depiction of terrain and strongholds, it’s all top quality.

Hopefully the show is set for a second season right away and they can improve upon what they have created here, which is solid.

This show has better swordfighting scenes then star wars the last jedi had... It is really amazing honestly, whoever made that choreography needs to be hired on all movies now.

Overall the show was amazingly great considering how everyone was expecting it to suck.

A good show, but lacking in grasping the violence, racism and horror of the witcher universe, it would've been perfect without the politically correct adaptation of certain situations.
I can't wait for the second season, and to see how they will adapt some of the most brutal and shocking scenes (yes, the witcher is far more schocking than GoT, in the books)

"The witcher" isn't as bad or as good as you've heard. It's OK. The series is a bit chaotic and visually uneven, but all in all it's a really original series. Folklore fairy tales full of magic for adults. Pure escapism. I liked it and I feel the second season will be an upgrade. I liked it a lot.

It takes a while for viewers to learn how these characters are connected, via an exasperating Westworld-esque narrative knot that takes much of the season to unfurl. ... The Witcher heightens our confusion by fumbling details that would have helped it set a cohesive tone. Dialogue vacillates, from line to line, between theatrical fantasy-speak and modern colloquialisms (“Dragons are, in fact, a thing!”).
