The script is shocking and moves so fast that no character development is possible. Making the Two Rivers a diverse mix of every race throws out a key plot point, that they developed in isolation and retained the old ways. Given the world has many different races from many different nations I dont see the point of doing this. Feels like Rafe is more interested in pushing his political views than telling a story. CG is cheap and ungainly. If you have enjoyed the books then I suggest you give it a miss as it is a really disappointing reimagining by a talentless hack. Expand

My new score is 0.
Hope the series will be shut down soon. Sooner it is finished, sooner we can get a good adaptation.

My earlier review - score 4:
I read all the novels and enjoyed them. I like the idea to make the heroes older from the start, but the show disfigured the main idea: saidin and saidar. The world and the novels would give plenty of options for intelligent and believable diversity of characters, but instead, every isolated population and area is the same. This is the current fashion of movies, hm, ok. BUT the costumes are horrible. They are picked from Tesco and a reggae festival. Most of them look modern and somewhat used. The original story of the novels was not new (young heroes vs evil), but the universe was colorful and quite believable inside its logic system. The series made it somewhat foolish and plastic.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a standalone fantasy it's ok, but as a series adaptation of The Wheel of Time books it's a travesty!

I have waited all my life to see this series put to screen and while I'm not as disappointed as some I am not happy with what I saw.

If it was just a standalone fantasy series I can see myself enjoying it, but this is supposed to be an adaptation of one of the greatest fantasy series ever written (IMHO ofc. :)) and in that respect it fails miserably.

It changes things that don't need changing, it inserts politics, though while important, have no place in this show. It simplifies too much and takes away the grandeur of the world. Effects looks cheap, so does some set pieces, especially the waygates...even CGI elements like Tar Valon is diminished, WHY?

The showrunner claims to have read and enjoyed the books, but that clearly cannot be true.

There are many other things that are wrong, but it would take too long to go through it all here.

It's not all bad though, Emonds Field looks ok, even if everything about it is wrong, trollocs and myrdraals look great, Shadar Logoth looks nice despite the pathetic rendition of mashadar.

I'm going to watch it all though, I'm just not going to be thinking about it as The Wheel of Time, or maybe like a different, more pathetic, turning of the wheel.

--

Update:

I tried to enjoy it, but now it's just going downhill. The phase is way too fast and now elements of a soap opera has reared it's ugly head.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The wheel wasn't broke so, why'd you try to fix it?
Not a faithful adaptation but rather a small, sad collection of points in the lore are used to fashion a thinly veiled political statement in the form of a high budget fantasy TV show. That $10 million an episode should leave viewers scratching their heads because it certainly isn't reflected in the show's production quality which hovers between community theatre and Xena: Warrior Princess.
The Trollocs look good but, it seems the makeup and effects budget was not spread far past them as the Ogier look like Rubber-Forehead-aliens and the One Power, when it is used, looks like a bunch of frothy milk being stirred up rather than threads, threads that should have unique visuals of some kind to indicate the different types of weaves and make channeling look at least somewhat interesting.
The actors are barely hitting par on these performances, which often seem lifted straight from a CW tween drama, and even worse, of the Emond's field five only the two women get any training, the boys are there but they are taught nothing and are either portrayed as cowardly or useless.
My only hope is that this will make more people want to read the books, whihc, unlike this show, are worth a look.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You only need watch the massive plothole at the end of episode 2 to see how terrible the writing of this show is. Where did the 300 Trollocs go? In the BOOK they chased them into Shadar Logoth and were all killed by Mashadar, but in Rafe's Junkins quest to rub his scent all over Jordan's writings that is omitted, like every other page of the book he set out to adapt. Casual viewers haven't even been explained that a wisdom is a local healer, I wouldn't be surprised to learn people think she is a shaman that rain dances.
The actors are talented, but they have been given nothing, in a quest to race to the finish all characterization has been abandoned. The culture of the world, the name of their home town, the family dynamics... All of these have been sidelined to allow more time for genz fashion, whether it be 10 earings in invented character Layla's ears, or soundcloud rapper Arams little dredds. This is Wheel of Time in name alone. There may be a Rand, Perrin, and Mat, but little to nothing of them have survived this adaptation. 3 Episodes in and Perrin hasn't even gotten his signature axe yet. Mat is a graverobbing thief. Rand doesn't even have the flame and the void. Extending to the rest of the cast they aren't any more recognizable. I've been a fan of the books for nearly 2 decades and remember the pain of learning Jordan had died, this adaptation is an assault on his life's work. Skip it and read the books instead.

Pacing is all over the place, and I never felt like I cared for any of the characters. You get maybe 20 seconds of why you’re supposed to care and that’s it. There’s no mystery or subtlety like in the books either. They just hammer you over the head with whatever point they are trying to make. Many have pointed out that this is just a glorified CW show, but I think that is giving this too much credit. Amazon made the same mistakes, when they rebooted Utopia. And I fear they are going to do the same for Lord of the Rings. If this show makes it past season 1 I’ll be shocked. Expand

It is far to rushed to develop good characters. The books take there time and make sure all characters are well established before moving on. They also took creative liberties to change some of the fundamental relationships and how and when they took place. (if they ever took place in the books at all) Some of these changes are large enough to make you not even recognize the character. Often times I felt like I was watching a random fantasy TV show instead of watching the wheel of time. This is because it deviates so far from the Source material for no reason. There of course is a heavy handed undertone of feminism in this as well. Granted the books had some of that but not to this extent. All they had to do is follow the source material and slow down and we would have a great series on our hands. Instead we are left with and shadow of what could have been. I guess I should not have been surprised because Hollywood has been a let down for a while now. It is just to bad they had to take this franchise down the toilet with everything else. I gave it a two for cinematography Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is CW or Shannara level bad. There are so many unnecessary changes it’s hard to watch. They try too hard to add a grim dark edge when WOT is high fantasy. I mean Perrin killing the wife he never had? Matt apparently mustering a family? Rand and Egwene having sex? I could go on but this show is laughably bad.

Edit: had to drop my rating from a 2 to a zero. It keeps getting worse with each episode. I have to pause every few minutes to explain to my wife what is going on, though I can barely follow it myself.

There are very strict rules around the one source of magic like all good series have. This director / writer threw the works or Robert Jordan in the trash. I honestly think he didn’t even read the books. He got rid of a beloved character and changed the ages of the kids. They grow up on this journey in the books and learn about the world at a young age yet the writer though they should start the journey having killed their wives having sex with each other and more. This is a disgrace to the wheel of time books and I hope it doesn’t get renewed. Apart from the diversion from the bestselling book series which is always a mistake, the characters are bland and don’t feel like people you would want to be around. The director / writer failed in giving us ways to connect with rand and the rest right out of the gate. They’re adults in this series yet so many of the journeys they encounter happen because in the books they were kids. This is a terrible start to a long journey. If you’re going on a 14 book 1,000 page per book journey and deviate from it by 5-10degrees then you will end up in a totally different place because of the length of this journey. I can’t imagine where this bad show will end up but it certainly won’t be in line with the books. Does this writer / director think they’re better writers than Jordan? I guess so but they will likely find out the same thing that the Game of Throne writers found when they had no book to guide them (RR Martins fault in my opinion) the show will fall apart and everyone will be pissed. This happened at the start of this new show so let me go ahead and predict they won’t get through 3 seasons before getting cancelled. Side note, animation is bad, creatures look dumb, and the story they’re making doesn’t and (after some time certainly won’t; referring to later books) make sense. Well done ruining the show I was looking forward to most. This sucks. Expand

Although I understand that some changes must be made when adapting books for the screen, I am horrified to see that this adaption blatantly disregards the basic tenets of how both the world and some of the individual characters function in the books. I'm curious as to how the tv-series is supposed to progress, with making changes of this kind. Furthermore, the dialogue seems forced and unnatural, as the characters are forced to try including obvious information connected to world building, into pretty much every situation and casual conversation. The tv-series has huge pacing issues - it formerly runs from one scene to another. Combined with the above, this leaves both minor and lager plotholes. I'm so, so very sorry that this adaption was made. I wish I could unsee it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Most of the characters are casted very well. That is not why this gets a zero. Nor the beautiful cinematography which while visually beautiful seems to fail the description that is the Two Rivers.

It is the story it is so far off the mark you would need a gps and a navigator to find it. Some of the simple things that Moiraine does have far reaching consequences for characters that aren't even part of the main cast. One of the worst marks against the show is the simple change of "The Dragon can be male or female" don't get me wrong that sure you want to include women within the possibly. But that statement alone brings with it a truck load of problems for the story that is The Wheel of Time. Some context for people who wanted to read this but may have not read books. The One Power is split in 2 (well there is a 2nd source of power but not important to this moment). 'Saidar' is the female half of the One Power only a woman can touch or use it. The other half is Saidin which only the men can touch the reason Saidin is dangerous is due to the Dark One tainting it. Which doing the Prologue for the Eye of the World would have been great as its a great scene that brings with it tons of questions for viewers, which touches on this. More questions for viewers a deeper want to answer them by watching more. Now the problem with the prophecy is the Dragon is always Male and because the Dark One tainted the male half the Dragon would go insane before ever getting to the last battle. This was the problem besides the "Red Ajah" potentially killing him without knowing it. Now if you change the Prophecy to can be "either" even though Moraine knew a Baby Boy was born on Dragonmount and taken away. Hence why she is so annoyed in the First Book no towns hold good records of who was born from where etc. This is why she brought the 3 boys because she didn't know who was the Dragon but the Dark One was aiming there. The Whole Ta'veren thing comes later. But the two women were brought Ewegene due to her impressive power that would make her a powerful Aei Sedai. Nynaeve because she wanted to bring back her villagers. But stays to protect them and pretty much never comes back.

And one of my biggest complaints is Thom why isn't he in Emond's Field? Thom falls in love with Moiraine. AND THAT STARTS HERE WHEN HE COMES WITH THE BOYS RUNNING FROM THE TROLLOCS!!! By far my favorite character and he got a couple spots in a bar and saves Mat. Which while a good touch destroys his character development of falling in love with Moiraine Sedai which is the reason later in the books he tries so hard to save her from the Tower Ghenjei. And becomes her Warder! (Insert angry sounds here)

Also just a few characters that I feel missed on.

Elyas & Vin both missing, both huge points of change within Moiraine's understanding of what is going on, and for Perrin. Ewgene's Father the Innkeeper should of been fat. Because you "Never trust a skinny Innkeeper". Also no Draghkar come on. And don't get me started on Perrin's whole character arc you have butched one of the Three in a way that ruins the show beyond repair.

If you have read this far congratulations. You either find my ranting truly silly or see the pain of a lifetime fan watching his beloved series get butchered worse then the Dragon Ball Live Action movie. I highly recommend reading the books and ignoring this series. No amount of love could fix the holes they have dug in this beautiful epic.

I read the books a few years ago and for me this is missing a lot of the charm of the books. Rosamund Pike is genuinely great but she's really the only actor with serious acting ability. The rest come across as a bit amateurish/wooden and three episodes in, the actor playing Rand is giving off strong George Lucus era Anakin Skywalker vibes. His acting is over dramatic and he feels like a bit of an over-serious yet whiney adolescent which is not how he is in the books. His relationship with Egwain is actually a bit
uncomfortable since neither of them are very convincing.

I'll keep on watching, but my hopes aren't super high at this point.

Complex characters have been simplified and dumbed down in order to make way for "reimaginings" that are clearly targeted to certain demographics. Our male heroes were done dirty. Mat is reduced from a mischievous but honorable guy to a petty thief, Perrin goes from a Blacksmith's assistant to a Blacksmith's husband and mere helper, and Rand, a man going on a journey of self-discovery, looking to learn about the truth of his origin and his role in the prophecy, is reduced (in the first few episodes) to a whining 20+ year old adolescent whose primary motivation is to chase after a girl who wants something more than a boring village life. Apparently, the only reason he treks to Tar Valon is because Egwene will be there. The Simp Reborn. Extensive changes have been made to the world building, mechanics and lore early in the show that will have huge implications further down the line. In place of the missing subplots are blatant and undisguised attempts at sociopolitical drumbeating. Who knows - maybe in season two they'll replace all the trollocs with cops in riot gear for "greater inclusivity".

Race, religion, and politics - if you like your entertainment to be free of those things, this "adaptation" by Rafe Judkins and his committee of butchers is not it.

That said, Ive read enough to get a solid grasp of the characters and factions of the world. It was due to this that I first became surprised by the huge changes implemented in the show with characters being handled totally differently both in action and appearance.

This is irrelevant in the grand order of things as the show doesn’t need to follow the books to be a successful and fun show; unfortunately, it simply isn’t. There are many issues here, from modern-looking clothing on poor medieval villagers to a terrible script which completely fails to grasp the attention or instil any emotion. Some may say this is due to the cast themselves, but the cast themselves are more than adequate for this sort of show but they’re simply not given anything beyond amateur dramatics to do. Additionally, watching it as a stand-alone show without considering the books, it all feels horrendously rushed with the characters positively flying from one Dr Who style threat to another, all in a single episode and not lingering anywhere long enough to simply get to know them or explain what all this madness around them is! And my mention of Dr Who is not a passing one as, for a show with an alleged $10,000,000 an episode budget, the effects are often barely on par with the aforementioned BBC TV show. This is both down to the SFX themselves but also some really shoddy camera work and production that lack any artistic flair. We’re now 4 episodes down and I am going to TRY and soldier on through them all, just to be able to say I gave this hot mess an adequate chance but I doubt I’ll return for Season 2 as this is not a replacement for Dr Who, let along Game of Thrones and lacks any passion or excitement.

I look at this series as nothing but a disrespectful smearing of the work left to us by Robert Jordan. From the casting of Alanna and Egwene to that epsiode 1 sex scene with Rand, to the sword slaying, AoE healing blast master Nynaeve, to Matt's family becoming white trash, to Perrin's 'WIFE' ...I hate this series. This is not Wheel of Time. This is like the Dark One's taint reaching out through the script to corrupt a story so many of us love.

Other than name and some very basic elements of the novels, it is more a show that piggybacks of the the novels to sale itself than an adaptation of book to tv.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Every character, location, event, and motivation has been changed. The magic at the core of events has been altered, and for most of these things for no good reason. This is about as accurate an adaptation as The Legend of the Seeker was to The Sword of Truth book series. That is to say it only bares a superficial similarity and is made much worse for it. This is a trash show that shows 0 respect to the source material and everyone involved should be ashamed and embarrased. Expand

However, the characters and story are horribly, terribly butchered. I think if I can somehow get into the idea that this is an alternate universe, a different turning of the Wheel, a beginning that was not the beginning described in the book... maybe I can enjoy the show a bit. You need that sort of copium to endure this.

Newcomers will likely have an OK time if they can turn a blind eye to all the glaring plot-holes and inconsistencies that arise from randomly inserting your fanfic into a story as complex as this one.

I hope this at least brings more people into Robert Jordan's world so I can tell them to read the books, or listen to the audiobooks.

Absolutely shocking adaptation for the first 3 episodes. I'll try not to put any spoilers.

I understand the novels have to be cut down to fit to a television template, but this is just ridiculous. Rosamund Pike is the only good thing about WoT so far. The showrunner has reduced most of the main characters to fill in material, making them seem like whiney asses and pushed their development put of sight.
I'm all for diversity and strong female characters, but in a series of books that has them by the bucketload, Judkins has simply dropped the ball big time. Cutting key scenes and saying it's for better exposition, then adding scenes that are not only nowhere to be found in the books, but don't even add to the story in any way is just frustrating and had me shaking my head.

I'll continue to see where this goes, but I don't hold much hope.

They have refactored the story considerably and IMO not for the better. They changed the focus of the story apparently to meet their goals of political correctness and their newly invented plot points. The result is that quality storytelling has taken 3rd or 4th seat. The clumsy storytelling is evident in the videography as well. The compelling visual storytelling that was so striking in GoT is completely missing here. The fabric of this story should be composed of the relationships of the characters and their development. The result is a lack of deep engagement by the viewer. The end result is a watchable but forgettable TV show. I have only watched thru episode 3 so perhaps it will get better but it show no signs of doing so. Let me start out by saying I’ve never read the book series this show is based on. Having watching the first three episodes I don’t much care for the show, or the world the show has created. It’s an extremely generic and cliche High Fantasy world. Much of the dialogue feels needlessly lofty with lines like “the old blood runs deep in those mountains.” Some of the sets and CIG have almost a low budget B movie feel which is odd since this show is reported to have cost a fortune per episode. There is also something off about the visual feel of the show. It’s almost like Amazon made the colors more vivid during post production. Also can we do something about the costumes. Rand’s costume in particular looks like something out the NYC Fashion week’s Fall Farm-boy styles. These kids look like hipsters not fantasy heroes. Expand

I don't know how many hours I've spent reading and re-reading these wonderful books. I convinced a group of friends, many of whom were curious about WoT but hadn't read it yet, to come to a watch party for the release.

This show really let me down. It failed to capture the essence of the books, wasted time with new nonsense and new, poorly-developed characters from the TV writers, at the expense of dropping most of the incredible scenes from the books.

The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and Harry Potter adaptations all made changes to suit the medium without losing the core of what made the original work great. In this, The Wheel of Time TV show failed miserably.

While the music and locations are generally OK, poor costume choices, casting and set design are all disappointing.

Visual effects are a mixed bag, although channeling is particularly poor.

Worst of all is that the show is not an adaptation of the books, but an unrecognisable interpretation, littered with inexplicable deletions as and additions, that leave it unworthy of the title is bares. Not only are the choices poor, they are also often poorly written, and directed. Even as standalone work, the show is bad.

This showrunner shows no respect for the author, nor for the fans. Characters and story are so different from the original it is unrecognizable at times. The THREE ta'veren are almost absent from the story, even if they should be THE story. Rand is not even established as a character, Perrin is given a backstory that changes his personality completely. Mat, my favorite, is unrecognizable. They told us there was no time to tell the real story, but they found time and money to focus on useless characters like the sad warden. Thom is a completely different character, Lan gets butchered. Do not believe those who say it’s good, anyone who likes this crap is not a fan of the series. I expect a female Dragon Reborn. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another example of cultural vandalism done to a beloved western series.

You could sense the encroaching wokeness; the radical left political and sociological ideology, coming in every episode. From a storytelling perspective, they alter things from the plot that forces them to reinvent the story to fill the plot holes they just made. I'm a politically neutral WoT and fantasy lover, and I feel like this is an ill made mockery of Jordans work. It doesn't stand on its own as a fantasy story either, so why bother watching?

Honestly the first 3 episodes felt like hate mail toward Robert Jordan and the fans.

The show's creators excuse that the plot must be compressed to fit the adaptation and for it some storylines and characters needed to be dropped for the pacing and the overall story arc, is laughable a flat out lie, since they've introduced completely new characters and stories that has nothing to do with The Wheel Of Time which take almost 2/3 of the screen time.

In an adaptation of such a great work that is The Wheel Of Time, with it's amazing descriptions, characters and story, to get the basic core world mechanisms, theology, details and characterizations so painfully wrong is simply inexcusable. And to think that this is just the beginning of the journey, this will be a really rotten one for the fans of the books or for fans in general who like a good story.

If they really wanted to tell their story that much, and not the one in the books, they only needed to drop the name The Wheel Of Time and call it Amazon's & Rafe's Generic Fan Fiction or something, and unfortunately it still won't be passable TV show.

The editing is abysmal, diversifying the cast could've work, but it only bogs them down because they've picked the wrong actors, whose acting is so stiff and really bad, the writers are just trying to force the newest and wokest thing of the moment (which will be unacceptable next year when the next woke thing comes along), pacing is all over the place which makes this show completely disjointed and dismal failure.

The only question about this remains: is this show gonna last 2 or 3 seasons?

Hopefully Amazon will learn from this debacle and will not make the same mistakes with it's upcoming adaptation of LoTR.

Fight choreography and battle scenes are ridiculous in a bad way (but there’s not a lot of either). The writing is terrible, especially the dialog! The biggest issue is the lack of attention to detail. There are so many inconsistency in every technical aspect, that it takes the viewer right out of the show. Those involved in making this show were either incompetent, too inexperienced, or just didn't care.

Considering the amazing books this is supposed to be based on, this is the worst show I've ever seen! The show does NOT follow the books at all. It is clear the Show-runner and possibly writers hate the source material and want to deconstruct it. An example that sums it up is the show has an episode called "Blood calls blood". The books have a chapter called the same. The book chapter ends with a character stating the following great line "There is one rule, above all others, for being a man. Whatever comes, face it on your feet." The show's episode ends with this same character kneeling on the floor, crying, yelling at the ceiling, and for some strange reason twisting his nipples. Clearly there’s an agenda here.

To me changing an author's work to this degree and passing it off as the same IP is the equivalent of book burning! Amazon should be ashamed of themselves for making this show

If you're a fan of Wheel of Time, of fantasy, of art, of life in general do yourself a favor and pass on this boring, bland, factory made drivel that looks like it came off an Amazon Assembly line. The closest I ever came to being engaged was when considering the sheer amount of effort necessary to turn Jordan's sprawling, imaginative, mystical, thrilling world into a cheap vanilla imitation of an even cheaper small-town Renaissance fair. Officially my rating is 0, but really , it's -100/10. Balefire the damn thing.

I'm a big fan of the books. This show misses the mark in so many ways. The characters are nothing like the characters in the book. Lan is not stoic at all, Perrin is not methodic and thoughtful, Matt isn't fun loving. So Terrible.

This might work as a carnival ride, but I have played pinball tables with more immersive storytelling. Then again, those were created by people who cared and not just content for content's sake.
Kudos to everyone who got paid for this slob. Good for you! Next time, go for cute, then you might get a decent children's show. Or keep all the grim and violent, but make it funny, so there is motivation for it. Or, since you obviously don't shy away from being tedious, turn it into a graphic novel and focus on being scenic, then you could even have the stupid songs without being offensive.
I get that these shows are made as fodder for subscribers to the platform. But really, at least have some self-respect and get the craft part right. This is embarrassing.

It's a tragedy.

Dull and listless. Most of the cast is not very good or entertaining to watch. Ugly costumes. I don't know much about the books, but this show is just a long sense of grey and monotony punctuated by rare bits of actual acting.

An example of what upsets me: characters ride. They all stop. "How long do we have". Meaningful stares. "Not long enough". Characters resume riding... so, if you are in a hurry, why stop for this inane conversation? This is just one of many examples, but it serves to illustrate what irks me in a spoiler free manner. I just can't watch it, I cringe too much :( Expand

The show has a very heavy handed modern political agenda, which is totally mask off. Its completely immersion breaking in this setting. There is almost no character development for the main characters, yet whole episodes given over to tertiary side characters who are then killed off. There are no stakes at all, plot armor abounds. And even where there is tension you don't care about the characters so you don't even notice it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good afternoon! I have read the entire series of books by Robert Jordan. It's a pity that other people wrote the ending, but I didn't regret reading it. About the series. I quit watching after 15 minutes of watching the first episode. It seems to me that the author turned over in his coffin when you filmed this. You are fed up with your idiocy and trying to lick all the idiots in the world. There is a canon, why are you trying to change it for the sake of political tolerance? If there are morons who don't understand that elves can't be Asian or black because they're a DIFFERENT race, then that's their problem. In the book, the blacksmith is a man, but this is chauvinism, as well as voila. In the series, for some reason, Perrin was made a WIFE, also, having licked all the feminists, a blacksmith. This is **** biology. Men are stronger, women are more flexible, that is, more agile. And there's nothing wrong with that. In the pursuit of tolerance, you bring everything to the point of absurdity. Finally turn on the brain. Every year there are fewer and fewer normal films or TV series due to the propaganda of homosexuality, racial tolerance brought to the point of absurdity and absurd feminism Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So far I'm disappointed. Like pointed out by most critics here, the pacing is just awful. I simply don’t understand why they haven’t had more episodes this season to avoid this. Is not like they depend on airtime on TV. Robert Jordan put a lot of scenes in the book to build the characters in the book. (I’ve read two books so far), because of that you can relate to some characters or ‘like’ them. This show ruined that completely. Matt is a douchebag, Moiraine is a failed Gandalf, Rhand’s arrogance is based on nothing, Nyneave is a tramp on her period (in the books she’s just on her period but Jordan makes her likeable for that) and Perrin is nothing but dead weight like Matt, but at least Matt is gone for now. What the hell Loial is doing in the show remains unclear, what the Ogier race exactly is, and what his part is to the story is limited to a team of make up artist that need employment. (Nothing bad about the actors though, it’s just bad writing)

Now the point that really annoys me: you’ve ever wondered why there is no sword fighting in The Notebook or why there are now wizards in Nothing Hill? Because it has nothing to do with the story and makes it ridiculous. Those teenage angst and cliché love affairs are completely out of line especially when you rush the main story. It’s an pathetic attempt to make this show likeable for an audience who like this **** but couldn’t handle Game of Thrones.

People who point out this is an “adaptation of the books” don’t get the point of the critics. LOTR was a great adaptation, and the changes that were made, made sense. Same goes for The Hunger Games and the Harry Potter movies. Game of Thrones did great until the last seasons and The Walking Dead made better choices in the beginning (The Daryl character i.e.). Wheel of Time has all the potential but fails due to terrible writing choices.

As a long time fan of the book series by Robert Jordan, I was cautiously optimistic when I first heard that Amazon was producing a television series adaptation.

That optimism was dashed after watching the first episode, and by the end of the last episode it had transformed into anger.

This drivel is not The Wheel of Time. The story, major plot points, character personalities and motivations, the background lore and world building, the nature of magic and how it is used in this fantasy setting ALL have been changed unnecessarily (and not for the better) to the point that they no longer resemble the source material.

The only thing Wheel of Time in this series is given names and other proper nouns (i.e. Aes Sedai, the Amyrlin Seat, Warders, the Blight, etc.). Everything else has been rewritten to serve a certain agenda related to the current state of politics in America championed by Hollywood.

Do yourself a favour... Don't watch this travesty that is in no way an adaptation of Robert Jordan's bestselling work. Read the books instead.

It looks pretty good and sounds decent but don't expect much in terms of story and acting. Expand

Through 6 episodes, it has become painfully clear that this show is not an attempt to adapt The Wheel of Time with any of the care and respect that it deserves, but instead it is an attempt to "deconstruct" Robert Jordan's masterpiece because it fundamentally contradicted Rafe Judkins's personal politics and social worldviews. Additionally, the entire production is amateurish, wasteful, and poorly written. In Rafe Judkins, I could not think of a single showrunner less suited to adapt ANY book series, let alone something as important as one of the most beloved book series of all time. Expand

Literally every aspect of production I find is fan-film level at best. Give the high school drama club 10 million dollars per episode and I believe they could do a better job. Acting, casting, costumes, music, sets, cinematography, dialog, story, pacing, etc.. you name it and it is just bad. Take a look at season one Game of Thrones for examples of how to do a show correctly where every aspect is amazing. This is what happens when you give a show to the creatively bankrupt. Stay away. This is extremely disrespectfulI am a huge fan of the Wheel of Time novels so originally was excited to see a live action adaptation unfortunately I was terribly disappointed. This series should be relabelled "inspired by" NOT "based upon". This is extremely disrespectful to Robert Jordan (and Brandon Sanderson who completed the novels). It changes things so extremely that it generates even more trouble for its stories going forward. I find it full of contempt for the original, it promotes misandry; displaying every male character as cowardly, weak or stupid; it contains bad language that does not exist in the novels; the writing is terrible and clearly hints at certain political views which just tarnishes such a great setting. The source material is so good and I appreciate they need to cut it down for TV but this removes and changes so much it is no longer recognisable. It is such a terrible shame and unfortunately it gives me little to no hope regarding the forthcoming Lord of the Rings series from Amazon. Sad times. Expand
