This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The season 7 was just a excuse to extend the entire plot. There's nothing new in a few chapters; different points of view that do not tell anything interesting.
I understand that we need to understand Negan's environment but you can tell more than that in a single episode. I thought the war against Negan would end in this season but they want to take another one to extend the story.
Anyway they know how to generate expectations on the first and last episode, I hope the next season will be better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m just going to come right out and say it, I thought this season was awful.

As the show reached the mid-season break it had basically gone nowhere. To be honest The Walking Dead has always had a history of dragging out plots for far longer than necessary but, following the shocking events of the season opener, you could have effectively skipped most of the first eight episodes and not really have missed anything. The episode entitled “Swear” for example was not only dull but it also failed to move the plot forward even a jot and quite why we needed a whole episode of watching Daryl being kept prisoner by Negan I have no idea.

The mid-season finale did appear to offer some hope as it seemed as though Rick and co. were finally going to start fighting back but, until the last 20 minutes of the last episode we were still in pretty much the exact same position having spent more time showing over and over again that Negan and his “saviours” aren’t very nice people. The final nail in the coffin is that, having spent the entire season apparently building up to a big conflict, the writers even managed to mess that up! We got about 15-20 minutes of action, in which Rick yet again showed his stupidity when he was double crossed by a strange group of people that he’d decided to trust with everyone’s lives (These people live in a rubbish dump and for some reason speak in broken English), before Negan drove off into the sunset leaving us with a 6 month wait before we get any sort of resolution.

Looking for positives, there were some good zombie killing scenes and I guess the tiger was pretty cool, even if I have no idea how it knew to only attack the bad guys.

With the season over i can finally give my review
This season has been average at best, with the finale being one of the best episodes i've ever watched on tv, but there were episodes that i are probably the worst episodes i've seen on tv
The premiere and finale were full of tension and and action all over the episode and it made them the best thing this season, everywhere other episode

Amazing premier, fantastic performances and of corz shocking enough even for those who have read the comic book as well.
BUT the later episodes are such a let down. of corz we get to see how the negan has gained control over rick but the worst thing is that the story is so slow...as well it spends 40min talking about a 5~10 min worth of story.

The general 2 had too much panache, overacted, and lacking in menace. I could almost hear him floss. Seemingly a joker over a remorseless sociopath. However that was one of the most brutal TV scenes to ever hit prime time. But It felt tiresome, and that ending rolled on for no apparent reason, any of these heroes have killed without pity both the living and the dead, in a world of the dead. Yawns at trying to create more empathy for them when there is none left on their journey, because it is simply flight or flight, when its emotions have gone to the walking dead. I don't know why the general 2 would look weak, saying something and then not doing it, by not breaking Rick completely, from emo boy not offering another appendage, that didn't make sense, because you haven't taken that psychology away when revenge is more of that motivation from any other friends. Instead of being fully broken and reminded of that pain daily by having to look at him and constantly care for. Isn't it what those warlords, gangs, do in some of those very extreme places? They have a family member kill their own kin, often a family member or somebody close, in this case maim, that is done to break the will by becoming fully bound offering servitude, creating the concept of what care/hope is left, because as soon as you have crossed that line is there anything you wouldn't do. I agree he thinned out their herd leaving what he considered as its weaker members,. Although for him to not carry out his measure, it shows weakness, and in that pack of dogs possibly who will eventually challenge for rank, it didn't make sense. Questionably the boy's plot armor and watershed, how else will the story lead in its apparent direction. With all the build up to it, yawn, when that didn't go through, because.Daryl isn't enough.

The promising premiere of season 7 turned into a slow boring grind with artificial drama the writers make last forever for no good reason.

It feels they are trying to somehow project some tension and horror of a dominated cast. But what they really do is fail horribly and accelerate the end of what was a pretty good show at one time. The villain is a joke. Not so much the actor but

After the first four breathless and brilliant seasons of the Walking Dead came the somewhat watered down seasons 5 & 6. Both had their moments; Moments of sheer adrenaline pumping excitement were mixed in with moments of so called ''tension building'' intrigue. In other words; inconsistent.
I hoped that season 7 might be different, and that it would offer more action and plot intrigue, but unfortunately it doesn't.
If anything, season 7 has been watered down even more from the previous two. Not that the thrills and adrenaline rushes aren't still there; they're just fewer and farther between. The season starts off with a brilliant, terrifying and controversial episode involving new baddie Negan. Negan is the new pantomime villain of the series - a menacing, evil but also often darkly hilarious character brilliantly portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Though often a little cliched, his scenes with Rick and the Alexandrian survivors are among the best moments of the series.
Character-wise, this is generally another strong season. Characters such as Rick, Sasha, Maggie and Carol go on interesting arcs, and many of the new faces stand out as well.
Unfortunately, the same cannot always be said of the plot. After the initial excitement, the series burns out for some considerable time, as it tries to examine the different and often rather slow moving threads of the story. One of the highlights of the series is episode 8, the mid-season finale, when the simmering tension between Negan and the alexandrians boils over. But after this, it's back to the ''slow burning'' business as usual for a few episodes.
By the end of the season, I was expecting some real payback and excitement in the final episode. Sadly, that too didn't quite deliver the lasting impression I was looking for, despite good few minutes of great battle scenes on the streets of Alexandria. Maggie's speech at the end of that episode summed the whole season up for me; Somewhat moving, but an unoriginal and somewhat boring attempt at reviving the passion and the emotion of earlier seasons.
The TV series still has some life left in it, but is very much in the ''Hershel after his leg was bitten by a walker'' stage of it's existence; It'll take some major surgery to keep it alive.

Way to ham it up like full on pantomime with the smiley face Negan character. Times like this I miss the Governor who was a more sophisticated and secretive villain. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Some shows jump the shark. This one jumped the tiger.

The narrative changed so much from the first six seasons that it's a completely different story at this point, just using roughly the same backdrop, and exploiting the emotional connection viewers had with the characters - in a sadistic way.
Now, I guess if you hated the show at season 5-6, this might have been a breath of fresh air.
However, if you liked it, the brutal change might really not be to your liking.
Usually shows do such stuff to regain ratings, but I get that this one wants to follow the comics.
For me, the result was a total loss of interest. Everyone was on a journey - including the viewer - but it wasn't this one, sorry.
    (SPOILER ALERT)
The show's writers might have had their characters enslaved for the entirety of the season, but not us - the viewers. After what they pulled with the cliffhanger, and then the first episode of the season, I skipped directly to the last episode, seen the story-line change is going to be stretched for yet another season, and decided to spend my time elsewhere.

When they first introduced Negan and the Saviors, he was interesting. As time has gone on however, that whole aspect of the show has become nothing but repetitive. Negan does nothing but talk in his irritating way. None of the characters' motivations make any sense or last for more than an episode. Besides a good episode here and there, it's really hard to keep myself watching this at times.

"You ever hear the one about the stupid little prick, named Rick, who thought he knew **** but didn't know **** and got everyone that he gave a **** about killed. It's about you".

Season 7 of The Walking Dead was... kinda of a mix bag. Compare to previous seasons, you know what to expect by now, as the formula is becoming more apparent. There were many episodes in this season that I thought was okay, but some I would call great. The awful episodes shouldn't go overlooked as well. Now we got a new villain and everything that the world use to be is decaying each day.

When we left off, season 6 ended on a cliffhanger which made viewers (including me) furious. I knew what it was there for and I wasn't having it. Of course when it's revealed who bite the dust, I wasn't all that surprised. Here's the problem with leaving a cliffhanger open for months, people will speculate and the odds seem more clear.

It also ruined what could have been a heartbreaking and a "Game of Thrones" like feeling of sickness, instead left me saying "I knew it". The tension and the build up was so perfect in the season 6 finale, but all of that is long gone since six months. Doesn't help when you killed off your character twice, which is Glenn. I mean, Glenn not being on the show anymore is sad and I've got to give Steven Yeun credit for improving over the years, for his acting skills. It wouldn't be the same without Gleen or Abraham.

Well with all that out of the way, lets talk about the actual good things.

Andrew Lincoln absolutely killed it this season, just like he always dose. It was so painful to watch Rick go through this soul crushing and embarrassment treatment of psychological torture. Effecting him and everyone else in the group. The scene at the start of season 7 where he breaks down in tears after Negan forces him to cut off his son arm. Truly great acting from him. Convincing the audience he's a father who would protect and cry whatever happens to his son. To be honest, he's the only reason why I'm watching this show. At the moment Rick is on a softer side, but that inn demon is still in there ready to be release.

Jeffery Dean Morgan is another stand out this season and stole every scene he's in. The devilish smile, slow tone talking, and brutal way of getting his point across. He makes the Governor look harmless. You love to hate him, everything that makes great TV. One minute your in shock or crying after he kills a fan favorite; you then laugh at the terrible puns he spits out while caving in someones head. How lovely. Making the character both evil and filth, but also giving a sense of respect and knows when he crosses the line. Pretty much a method of control. Later on, he must get the taste of his own medicine after the things he did. At the same time, you hate to see him go. Jeffery Dean Morgan was terrific.

It's great to see Maggie and Carol character becoming stronger since we first met them. Of what both went through and where they are now. And it's not just those two, the other character arcs that shown growth. That's what I like every season despite the problems.

Some of the unrealistic character monitions and decisions still need improvement like I said in my last review. Why are the final to these seasons always end so lackluster. You get the filler and predicable moments. Mostly things you expect. I bet the season 8 will repeat these mistakes, but hey, I'll keep watching anyway.

Overall rating: Ready for more zombie killing.

But it isn't so here. It feels like Nick and his group are forced to do what they do not want to do and they can't fight back at the moment. It's painful to watch them being tortured emotionally and psychologically, as it's often being presented in very distasteful ways.

Negan (leader of 'Savior') stands out very well as a well crafted villain. Jadis (leader of 'The Scavengers') has personality too and makes a cool villain.

The finale of the season is amazingly good. It alone makes this season still a worthy watch.

The lack of bite (no pun intended) the season throws out is just so formulaic and doesn't subvert the viewer's expectations in any good ways. There is such a deluge of new characters and yet none are performed or well written enough to stand out that the main group of Rick's in season 5 had done better when introduced. It's a dam shame because there is alot of great ideas the show could have once again took advantage of, but effectively become predictable and serviceable, not clever and captivating. Even the Walkers at this point are just normal to us even seeing some scenes not even killing that many just shies away from that world in favor of "humans are bad AND only the bad guys). By season 7, most series begin to lose steam or lose their identity, but The Walking Dead somehow feels as fresh, thrilling, dramatic, and exciting as it did in its early days, if not more so. The showrunners are pushing the envelope the right way, and they can get away with showing us the most disgusting, disturbing things imaginable because after seven years, frankly, they’ve earned it.
