The weirdness of the show is great when it works, but falls short when the plot makes no sense or some weak characters make decisions that are needed to justify the plot.

spoiler below:
why didn't thanos just make double resources? why did they isolate and ignore seven when they could have just given her a 5 star jail experience and communicate with her? there is a lot of plot holes that make no sense and number 1 was really annoying...
thankfully, the best characters are really good and super well acted. truly forgot mom was an actress in some part

Extremely unoriginal and a blatant ripoff of X-men and other superheroes.

But... it's still rather well acted and fun enough to watch that I can overlook the flaws.

All the photography looks like an expertly produced still from a graphic novel (they used to be called comic books). One thing i like about this is that they don't try to shoehorn too much plot into it right away. An ensemble needs to breathe, just look at Seinfeld, it's like a bottle of wine breathing before you drink it Expand

Kudos for diversity too in the adaptation! Really satisfying plot culminations and production quality IF you can get past the persistent abusive parent theme and those excruciating impacts on their treatment towards each other because of said unacceptable emotional abuse. That theme drags on too much because it makes character mistreat each other over and over again in that abusive cycle. Overcoming that sooner would have been more empowering. Expand

Perfectly detailed, there's nothing passing on the screen by chance, everything has a purpose. I mean, isn't just anybody who can think of such a vast and captivating story, and that doesn't change from the comics to TV. But the actors are the main point of why you can't just look away even a little second, they did a really great job, you can get the charisma from each one of the characters, then consequently you end up identifying yourself a bit with all of them. With 2 seasons but with potential for how many they want.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show is an absolute masterpiece, one of the best, the mystery is great, I love the characterization in this show, especially with Klaus, Luther, Five, Allison, Ben and Vanya, Diego kinda annoyed me and I thought Hazel and Cha-Cha just got boring near the end of the first season, Leonard's characterization, not that I particularly like it, it is just okay, most of his characterization is fake anyway due to him being a twist villain, the reason Diego annoyed me is because his brutal actions are never justified, you might say Diego kinda learned his lesson since Five talked him into not killing Hazel, I might say that though him letting Hazel go is part of him becoming more likable over the course of S1, yes he did become more likable over the course of S1 but I still think of him as unlikable and annoying as a result of his unlikability, he was likable at times and because he became more likable over the course of S1, he'll probably be more likable in S2, the acting is flawless, not kidding, the writers of this show are geniuses in terms of storytelling and characterization and this show is a masterpiece, Expand

Excellent job by Aidan Gallagher and Ellen Page. Kate Walsh as The Handler also delightfully hams it up in every scene. Her outfits are to DIE FOR. The show is worth watching for her if nothing else. Great acting, great cinematography and great musical choices make "Umbrella Academy" a must see. I really hope there's a season 3. Please don't let the story end here. Expand

A great superhero show! Sometimes it makes itself very complicated but that's the brand of this saga.

The first season is one of the best shows on Netflix. Great characters, strong plot, great (even though rare) action. Try it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 2 still continues to show that this is not just your typical superhero series, this still falls into family. The Hargreeves siblings will always be siblings, first we see Klaus (Robert Sheehan) and Ben (Justin Min) in 1960 and showing their dynamic together, Then we see Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) in 1961 to show the racism back in the day and how she deals with it, next is Luther (Tom Hopper) in 1962 and the first thing he finds is Allison which is still a continuation of showing their kinda romance which we never really get a definite answer on what their relationship is, next is Diego (David Castañeda) which landed in September of 1963 and the first thing he does is help a lady from a burglar, next is Vanya (Ellen Page) who landed in October 1963 and she gets hit with a car, lastly we get the star (in my opinion) of the show Five (Aidan Gallagher) landing in November 1963 and see a World War III occur and show the rest of the cast being badass. Then that huge cliffhanger happens and I really hope we get a Season 3 for this show, really amazed to know that Gerard Way gave showrunner Steve Blackman an outline of the comics even beyond the ones already released. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The show is honestly nothing short of fantastic. The first season with the whole leading up to Vanya destroying the world and Five and the rest tyring to stop it was just soo interesting and then the cliff hanger for season two left me on my toes.

Season 2 leaves the group scattered across a three-year gap and they brought the apocalypse with them and seeing how they all came to live while waiting on Five was super interesting. With all that is going on with BLM, this show really shows what it was like to be a black man or women in the 1960s and I honestly was prepared to punch a hole through my TV with how upsetting it was. The show was once again left off on a cliff hanger and I do hope we will see a season 3 of this show because I have soo many questions.

Great take on a dysfunctional family show. It really fires on all cylinders when the fantastic cast gets to play together. The super powers are just the sauce to this delicious show. Looking forward to next season.

this is a show most people either love or hate, it has sci-fi themes and involves time travel and that may appeal to some and not others. I personally lvoed this show but if the above themes dont interest you I doubt you'll enjoy it.
