First season was very good. Very funny. There are some decent comedy bits in the second season but it is mostly mired in boring stories. What was good about this show in the first season is that it was a parody of Star Trek but now it is just trying to be Star Trek with cringy social justice junk. Was Seth

The only Trek you can get on TV right now. Once you're done, check out the Trek novels, avoid the STD infection, Poocard and Lower D1cks at all costs. Enjoy!

The Orville is a comedy version of Star Trek. It's very funny, but it doesn't only have jokes. It also deals with serious, real-world topics in a mature way.

Definitely more serious this season, but still maintains a humorous tone. I miss the character that left the show but they have done a good job at keeping the chemistry.

I was already pleased with this dramedy homage to Star Trek the Next Generation, but this season has really honed itself into a much stronger work.

The show has found its legs. The comedy, while still funny, is used more sparingly. A lot more effort is put into character development. Both Dr. Finn (Penny Johnson Jerald) and Lt. Kitan (Halston Sage) have some juicy storylines. However,

The show has found its legs. The comedy, while still funny, is used more sparingly. A lot more effort is put into character development. Both Dr. Finn (Penny Johnson Jerald) and Lt. Kitan (Halston Sage) have some juicy storylines. However, it's Scott Grimes' Lt. Malloy who really stands out. When he started off last year, he was the less disciplined, less respectable friend of the captain. Now, though, he's become sort of the relatable underdog. He brings some great pathos to a couple episodes.

The storytelling has really gone up a notch, featuring many interesting allegories for the current world. There are a lot more episodes taking place on the ship. I'm guessing the planet-bound episodes cost more and the ratings have been on the fence, unfortunately. (Though when we do see special effects, they do look pretty nice for network television.) I really didn't mind because of the quality of the episodes.

On the downside, a couple characters got short shrift. Lt. Cmdr. LaMarr (J. Lee) barely gets anything to do. Cmdr. Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) doesn't have much of a story outside of the relationship with her ex.

Too much time is spent on Lt. Cmdr. Bortus (Peter Macon) and his mate Klyden (Chad L. Colema) and the Moclan race in general. Don't get me wrong: Bortus is a good character, and the Moclans serve as an excellent representation of more conservative countries and cultures. Still, Bortus and Klyden steal focus from the rest of the cast, and the Moclans can become exhausting after a while.

Also, this is a Seth McFarlane show. I find from time to time that his subconscious views on male/female relations can be a little askew/unhealthy.

Overall, I liked this season a lot more than the last, and I felt it offered some excellent individual episodes of television.

While season 1 definitely earned some of its criticism as it found its footing, season 2 is the show being the best version of Star Trek we've seen in 20+ years. It is a shame that early criticism of season 1 still gets to frame the overall perception that this show is not "good." It's pretty darn great.

Season 2 had changes made to fix the tone issues of the first.

The first two episodes show the cast as a bunch of immature children somehow in charge of a giant spaceship. All equally unlikable. To be fair, I understand much of this is hold-over material from season one. The next couple episodes are an improvement. The immaturity of the characters is turned down. Episodes #3 and

By midway they almost entirely jettisoned the 'spoof' aspect of the show. It's still the Bro-ship of Idiots and I can't believe they haven't gotten themselves sucked out of an airlock. For the most part though, the show could best be described as the worst Star Trek series (not counting Discovery which is even less related to the Star Trek universe than the Orville).

...And now with the season complete... I recant. The back half of the show is near perfect to the point that the first half completely forgiven. If you aren't watching the Orville: why not!?

A great season of TNG style tv, a happy replacement for STD shenanigans. I was a bit underwhelmed by the series finale but overall the season was strong with several standout episodes. Season one was good but this took the formula and improved it further and eliminated some of the cringe humour which probably helped.

The show that's so bad even the Metacritic critics won't grade it. It has a 0 score from 0 critics.

The show made a noticeable attempt to find out what it is and still came up with a season premiere about pee jokes. This is one of the worst sci-fi series ever made...ever!

Like in Season 1, I still giggle and laugh with every episode, I still like all characters and their idiosyncrasies, I still want to know how the individual episodes' storylines unfold and how the issues, both serious and trivial, are solved or at least handled by the crew of the Orville, who are by no means the paragons of humanity (and other species). It's full of stuff that makes me smile, it's neither on-the-nose preachy nor full of itself and there's really nothing I wanted to skip or would want to skip during a rerun (at least not in Season 2 – whereas I could not get through the Facebook episode in Season 1 at all).

As a standalone series, it's an 8/10. As a Star Trek homage/parody, which is what everyone labels it, it's a 9/10. As a light-hearted Star Trek-like show featuring a crew who are not perfect, which is what McFarlane envisioned it as, it's a perfect 10/10. And when compared to the competing Star Trek Discovery series (mainly STD season 2, although it applies to STD season 1 as well), it's a godly 100/10. It's easily my (and my wife's) 1# series right now and has been pretty much from the start of season 1. All of this, according to my proprietary algorithm, averages to a user score of 10/10.

Still a great series but a bit too much romance for my taste in this season. Almost every episode had love as an underlying theme, which was a bit much for my taste. I hope they will continue this series for many more seasons as it’s very enjoyable to watch with likable characters..

Season 2 just gets better and better, the comedy has taken a backseat to a really quickly expanding universe that Seth and his team are spinning up, the latest plot arc with Isaac has me well and truly hooked and hoping that S3 of this gets announced soon.

I was close to liking them by the end of season 1 but season 2 has made me hate every character for one reason or another, especially the new security chief who is a bad actor with a bad attitude that shows up very clearly on screen. Its like season 1 they had a bunch of good ideas that gave me hope and then season 2 rolls in and they start pandering to social justice in order to play it safe. The show, at this point (up to the latest episode 3/1/2019), is just a less funny, live action family guy set in space. The doctor was a cool character in season 1 and then suddenly they make her into an idiot for season 2. I find myself watching every new epsidode now saying either "why would they ever have done that?" or "are you kidding me, im supposed to buy this story?". The things they do to move the plot sometimes are just absolutely mindless and hard to watch. Its like theres a new writing staff for season 2 that has never written anything scifi or funny. Seth, I was so stoked for this show. Season 1 left me pining for more. Season 2 left me wishing it never came back. Who knows, maybe they are just pandering to keep the show on air and we will get a great season 3, but I sincerely doubt it. Expand

The dopey over-the-top nerd and risqué humor is bettered by the finer subtler near stealth jokes along with freshly spun takes on old familiar stories that make this Star Trek spoof (liberally stealing from Star Wars and others as well) a taste worth acquiring for those so predisposed.

Season 2 opener was abysmal. It was about basically nothing but everyone's romantic relationships. It says a lot when the highlight of episode is Jason Alexander under 15 lbs of silicone face mask essentially being the reptilian equivalent to Guinan.

More picking the bones of Trek and doing a poor job of it. Its still the same. The sets look basic, the graphics are unimpressive. The writing while funny at times has no depth. It is simply put not a good show and Season 2 shows in a much more profound way just how bad it truly is. It wont allow itself to be its own thing. It knows without relying on Trek name and concepts it cant stand on its own.

STD may not be the trek anyone wants but for all its worts when you take off the nostalgia goggles at least that is actually trek. The Orville still is the same thing it has always been, A TV series that amounts to one long running cutaway gag that wishes it was a fraction of what it is trying way too hard to be and failing miserably at it.

    EDIT:

Episodes 2 was unmemorable and just as bad as the pilot with their continued sole focus on workplace romantic comedy.

Episode 3 was the closest thing to a good episode this season. However it guts any good will it had with its ridiculously long and drawn out farewell to Halston Sage. Visually it was shinier reflecting the higher budget this season in spots. Having two trek alums cameo also comes as a benefit of the higher budget. However theepisode still amounts to nothing of any consequence. It was simply just people talking.

Episode 4 The very definition of cringe worthy. Taking pot shots at Star Trek Discovery in its main plot that was so beyond telegraphed from the first episode of the season that it would have taken a blind man not to see this coming. The surprise is that they let it go so early in the season and chose not to exhibit any depth to the story by building any narrative around it. The definition of premature and the illustration of anti climactic.

Episode 5: This is where the shows fandom goes completely off the rail. It exposes the pure hypocrisy of the fans of the show that claim that THIS is Star Trek. Those who do cite the spirit of Gene Roddenberrys vision of a crew of humans who work together peacefully and honorably to solve their difference. This episode spits in the face at that "noble" ambition by being everything it claims that it rejects.

If episode 5 actually illustrates anything of Roddenberrys vision its the same wild west cowboy TV/Film of the 1940s - 1960s Complete with Wilhelm scream worthy head over heel falls off second story structures.

Episode 6-7 Both can be conveniently be reduced down to being yet again more episodes about dating. There is so little sci fi to even be wrung out here. Much less it being Trek

This show has now become an examination not of its own merits but just how hypocritical its fanbase is in continuing to defend this Seth drek.
