Yet again, proof that critics and fans are different pages. This show is everything I have been wanting and didn't know. Reminiscent of Star Trek (even more than Star Trek Discovery). It is funny at all the right moments and serious at all the right moments. Every episode was better than the previous. I hope this show has many more seasons to come.

If you're looking for the next generation of Star Trek - that's actually palatable - this is it. Modern, comedic, intriguing with good writing.

There are no political undertones or motives, just good new fashioned sci-fi. I hope there's many seasons to come.

I really enjoy this show, and I think the 'official' critics are missing the point. Hey, I hate Family Guy too, but I can see that this is something very different. As a majorStar Trek lover, I find The Orville to mostly be a comedy tribute to Captain Kirk. That's a good thing.

Way better than discovery. It's an odd but welcomed homage to star trek. It is mixed with classic star trek dilemma scenarios with Seth macfarlands crass humour. It's a fresh show, and itches the scratch for new star trek

This show is the spiritual successor to Star Trek: The Next Generation. It continues to get better and better, and shows touch of social matters in the adventure of the week. There is minor parts of humour mixed in, but sci-fi is the main premise of the show, not humour. Any critic who disliked the show most likely doesn't enjoy Star Trek shows in general.

While not every joke works, it is overall funny, entertaining, and embodies the spirit of Star Trek much better than Star Trek Discovery. The feel is very reminiscent of TNG.

The comedy element of The Orville was a little uncomfortable to get used to, but now that I have it seems to work perfectly in tandem with show's thriller elements. Under the veil of silliness hides a smart, creative show that has the potential of being as beloved and respected as TOS, TNG, DS9

It is no Discovery that this show is more Star Trek than Discovery. Gene 'The Orville" Roddenberry would be proud to see his vision being continued despite it being a Star Trek clone.

Funny and engaging. Good balance between comedy and classic Star Trek themes. While modern Star Trek has gone down a dark/gritty route - which is honestly getting really tiring because all the studios are doing that now - this show lightly takes the mickey out of the "seriousness" of Star Trek. The actors are likeable and most surprisingly the plots are proper science fiction.

I introduced the kid to Star Trek over the summer, so watching The Orville seemed a good idea. We are both really enjoying it. If we have an episode of Discovery and Orville on the PVR, we'll usually watch The Orville first.

What I saw going in was a parody of Star Trek and Star Wars from the creator of Family Guy. Should have been good for a couple of laughs. What I found was an interesting and deep sci-fi with serious development and humor that connects to the viewer. In a world driven by critics, it is great to see a show that defies the elite and reaches the masses.

Please do nott pay any attention to the critic reviews. The critic appears to have their head far too up their own ass to even have given the show a chance. They even go as far as attacking the show as being a "rip off" of star trek, despite the fact that it is literally a star trek tv show.

The show is a fantastic show, that introduces you to the Star Trek universe without all of the pompous **** that surround the name. Rather then being on a flagship, a vessel of hope for all of humanity, they are on a middle class ship. The ship is smaller, the people less important, but their lives and stories they have are way richer because of this.

This is a breath of fresh air, with odd humor and the touch of situational comedy, it presents a world where you can actually connect with. Just a bunch of people doing their jobs and having funny interactions, all while set in space.

The show deserves a thousand times better then the rating the critics provided.

Ignore the critics, they were wrong about the original Star Trek too back in the 60's. The fans have found this show and we won't let them or fox turn it into another Firefly (meaning how YEY treated it)

Between social commentary, a diverse cast, and a sense of optimism, the Orville hits most of the same beats as Star Trek's main line of shows, and does them well. I've been waiting for a show like this for years, and it's doing something no space opera show has done in years. Some critics derided it for being '90s,' but it's mainly so in the sense of bright lights, episodicness, and optimism, and those are styles not limited to any decade.

I have to say that more and more, I get the impression that tv critics are a little clique who all get together and decide collectively whether they are going to sink or float new shows. This show is absolutely charming, fun, actually thought provoking at times, and as a TNG fan, is more like that show than anything Paramount has produced in twenty years.

Yes, it is at times tongue in cheek. No it doesn't take itself too seriously. That being said, it is what Star Trek used to be before it decided it needed to be "gritty": uplifting and optimistic utopian science fiction with allegories for today's issues. Take any lighter TNG episode, add about 10% more comedic moments, and you have The Orville. It isn't slapstick, and it certainly isn't a parody. It is an homage, and a pretty good one at that. I hope it forges its own history, because I'm enjoying it a lot.

Seth MacFarlane, what did you do? Oh well, it’s not too late – admit it now. You have been sexually assaulting pro critics ever since Family Guy’s Season 1 came out and you were suddenly ‘someone’. THAT is the only reason why the critics loath everything you do, Family guy, American Dad, that hosting of the Oscars which was a fiasco ( pro critics said that ). I honestly cannot think of a reason apart from this one why they would not give you any credit for your professional work at all.
Admit it ! Make peace with Gid, before the media outs you and you join your compadre’s on a list which is getting unusually long for a single calendar year.
Personally, I think you’r a comedic genius. Over 500 episodes between your animated shows – that is a body of work my friend – not one lousy Emmy to show for it. You are only 44, Omg !
I mean seriously, what do the critics have against you. I know not ( sad face ).
The Orville – I enjoyed watching the ( seen 9 episodes so far ) show. Like the bits of humour with sci-fi. It’s never boring, has spectacular visual effects for a TV production. I’m glad people are watching it. Its been renewed, Im sure that under critically acclaimed brain of yours will conjure up even more ridiculous episode ideas for its 2nd season.
And you Seth MacFarlane, will get an Emmy one day, to which you’ll later do what Southpark did to their's.
P.S - God, make peace with God. Think i typed Gid.

When you do so you have no one to tell you when you are awful in a role.

From its opening scene with Victor Garber assigning Ed his ship to the final, unsuspenseful shootout with alien enemies, The Orville moved from one lull to another.
