Better than any of the new movies they’ve put out the past few years! Plus I’m a huge fan of Pascal.

Very well made. Beautifully shot, great cinematography but the storyline is severely lacking. All bliss no substance.

Felt like a Sci Fi channel special. The scene where he tries to learn the mount, the random "yoda" type character, and combined with the short run time were all reasons to be concerned. Hopefully they go more in-depth with future episodes, perhaps 60 minute - 90 minutes would help them to explain their story in more detail and make sense of what story they are trying to tell.

I don't see how this show can possibly work centered around a lead with no personality whatsoever.

Mandalorians were given an interesting backstory in the canon, but they are largely devoid of emotion. That's not a great foundation to anchor an entire series let alone one episode. Even with more character development and background it is really hard to see how this can work.

Nice photography, production value is visible. Entertaining and fun... keeps you hanging.

However it is too aggressive in content for newcomers to Star Wars Universe (no issue for me though).
    Definitely will keep on watching.

Well done. Met my expectations, and I'm looking forward to more. Good mix of practical and cg fx. The environments feel gritty and bleak so far, which is great. The important characters are very well done, and I dig the representation of familiar species from the Star Wars film universe.

Like everyone else I wanted to buy into the hype surrounding this show. Disney has somehow taken a guaranteed hit brand and constantly messed it up. The pilot episode is shorter than I expected the series to be but somehow manages to feel long and at times boring. The Mandalorian is the only notable character in the show thus far. I don't know that anyone else was even introduced and if they were it just shows how forgettable they were. The plot is razor thin which is disappointing. You get the sense that it is being made up on the go. The tone of the show is the most troubling part. It's almost like the series hasn't figured out what kind of show it wants to be just yet. It felt like I was watching an "Almost Movie" quality TV show with high level effects but barely any coherent writing. The much teased end of episode reveal wasn't what I expected at all. I'll watch some more episodes in the hopes that it will improve but definitely wasn't a strong start. Expand

They should call this The Tropealorian due to the complete unoriginality of every aspect of this production. This feels like a Series created by a marketing team, not by actual writers and directors.
They clearly put a lot of fancy Names in there to keep Fans happy, and i am pretty sure this will work out fine. But this series does not habe any Identity.

Really enjoyed this first episode. I LOVED the art style and look of the characters and set pieces. While there were a few prequel level CG shots, it mostly looked good for the budget.

Also, I feel like the show expects you to come in with a pretty good understanding of who the Mandalorians are. It doesn't really give a good explanation of the metal and the significance of the armor. While I already have a pretty good understanding of the Mandalorians, most people probably won't. I guess it just felt like an episode in the middle of a season, not the first. Also, what the duck is with the music. ITs like a mix of classic star wars and pop, rock, and blues.

THIS is how to do Star Wars. Filoni and Favreau totally understood the source material and made a brilliant first episode. This episode is slow and thoughtful when it needs to be and energetic and aggressive when it needs to be.

Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are the new faces of Star Wars. They've announced their presence with authority.

    Who needs Benioff and Weiss?

Game of Thrones wishes it could have started with this big a bang.

Star Wars is back and with a vengeance.

Lazy, safe, and boring. Most likely made for kids. Even though The Mandalorian is everything I expected, I am still impressed with the laziness of the writing and directing. Solid 8/10.

I feel like i need to address the review bombing that this show is getting. The vast majority of reviews are positive which is great but there are some people giving the series a 0/10 for the dumbest reasons. What is a 0/10? There is not a single show that is a 0/10. a 0/10 show would be just a hour long black screen with white noise. It's ridiculous to give The Mandalorian a 0/10 just because you hate Disney era Star Wars. It's painfully obvious that these people wouldn't be happy no matter what they got.

Just glad to see that most people aren't blindly following the Disney hate and giving credit where credit is due.

Disney needs to pay Sergio Leone for ripping off his westerns with this uninspired episode. It's the cliche ridden Clint Eastwood stranger but with landspeeders, aliens and carbonite-frozen criminals. For once I'd like to see Disney come up with an original idea instead of this safe, mediocre garbage.

Great TV. A return to form and sanity for the Disney Company, after giving in to radical political race and sex baiting. Its a smooth running, great looking, Space Western that gives great fan service, introduces fun characters and makes sense. The Bounty Droid is a better actor than Daisy Ridley.

So far so good! The pacing is refreshing. The plot and character development, while not extravagant, is laying groundwork to build upon. As it should. The character design and effects are top notch. The sound effects and score is solid and effective.

What a great opening of a series, like a breath of fresh air. My Third favorite Star Wars movie was Rouge One, as it was, at least for me, more true to what Star Wars is than any of the prequels were or as of that time (and since) sequels have been. This first ep had a Rouge One vibe, and I was diggin it. I gotta good feeling about this.

Classic Star Wars back in style. All the atmosphere you would expect from a series centered on a bounty hunter. The soundtrack is superb, the tone is appropriate, and the pace is sufficient. I'm really happy that they aren't overdoing it with 1hr15min episodes like Game of Thrones which, while entertaining, often dragged on for 15-20 minutes too long every episode--too much filler. Episode 2 will give us a better feel for how the pacing of the entire series will go, but I like what I see so far.

Keep in mind there are going to be a large number of people so anti-Disney that they will never give this series an objective review. Most of the gatekeeper complaints are, as per usual, from so-called "fanboys" who seem to have lost touch with what Star Wars has always been. They want it to be dark, gritty, rated R. Ironically these will be the same fanboys that defend Lucas' more controversial decisions, yet one thing Lucas was always adamant about was Star Wars being primarily for kids. KIDS. Not teenagers, not YA, not 40 year-old angry neckbeards. KIDS.

Where most of the films tie themselves in knots keeping up with the family travails of Skywalkers and Palpatines, The Mandalorian operates in relative solitude. ... Favreau keeps things just the right side of schmaltzy, while also creating a more textured universe than we are used to.

Its issues hew toward the fundamentals of direction, performance, and dialogue, more problems of basic filmmaking skill than miscalculated vision. Favreau started from a more specific, vivid place than in his jobs for Marvel or on Disney’s wretched Lion King remake. Unlike his nomadic antihero, however, he doesn’t take it much of anywhere.
