    It's better than season 3 that's for sure. It's original, mysterious and importantly for star wars at this point, not awful.

I was more or less someone who wasn't interested in this show when it first got announced because I was not huge on Star Wars back then as a kid who was more into Marvel anyways. But after finally giving it a chance, I'm finally glad I did because it's a story I can relate too and the characters blend wonderfully into it. Firstly, the story is primarily about a cold-blooded mercenary willing to do what it takes to prevent a Baby Yoda from having a dreaded past he once had from robots and as the story continues on, the character learns to let go of his past fears and hate in order to actually care for the Yoda and learn to love again; the reason this story works is that we're more or less like Din Djarin who can lose themselves after a horrid past and it shows how even then, we can still come back and redeem ourselves when we learn to love. The characters are excellent since Din always keeps his mask on but that's ok since we're supposed to see him as this iconic bounty hunter who'll stop at nothing to do what needs to be done and a face reveal early on would've killed our interest straight away plus, it wouldn't even make sense in the Star Wars rules so when he does get it taken off, it feels earned with how long it took and there was no other way for IG-11 to keep him alive. Speaking of IG-11, his purpose here definitely serves as character growth for Din as a droid killed his parents when he was just a boy so it's natural he doesn't trust IG-11 even as he's reprogrammed but when he eventually does, it feels earned and more emotional when he asks IG not to sacrifice himself. The side characters are pretty good and they do feel like all of them have their place here (for the most part). The atmosphere and tone are phenomenal in showcasing this show is a lot smaller in comparison to its movie counterparts and ensure you're immersed thanks to the soundtrack. Overall, this is an excellent show and I can't wait to watch some more to see how Pedro Pascal and the directors will shape this show.… Expand

    Never would I have guessed that a series were a Walmart boba fett protects a deviant art yoda from Gustavo fring would've been the best star wars thing Disney has made up until that point

    Jusqu'au jour où il devient papa-poule et garde-chiourme d'un bébé à longues oreilles, un bébé extra-ordinaire et tellement mignon qu'on veut l'adopter sur-le-champ. Il est si "extra"-ordinaire qu'il nous rendrait bien service : peux-tu vider le lave-vaisselle, gamin ? et passer un coup d'aspi juste après, t'es gentil le gnome du logis ! Mais arrête de gober des crapauds, c'est dégueulasse !...

    Un brin taciturne mais le coeur sur la main, le Mandalorien est pourchassé par les méchants qui ne le lâchent pas d'une semelle... et puis c'est tout. Car le problème de cette série, c'est son absence totale d'intrigue et d'enjeux : entre le premier épisode et le dernier (le 8ème) de cette première saison, le schmilblick n'a pas avancé d'un poil de cul. Et encore.

    Bien sûr, la saison 2 se bougera peut-être un peu le fion à cet égard mais en attendant, on est gros Jean comme devant et pas motivé du tout. Et pourtant qu'il est mimi, le nabot verdâtre ! mais ça ne suffit pas, non, non. On s'ennuie donc souvent dans cette routine alors que le dernier épisode abuse carrément côté aberrations scénaristiques de scénariste (déjà ?) surmené. Tout ça pour en mettre plein la vue...

    Et on en prend plein la vue en tout cas, car Disney a raqué et casqué : les effets speciaux sont de toute beauté pour une série, c'est du beau travail à cet égard. Mais pour tout le reste (il retire jamais son casque, le casqué), c'est aussi superficiel et limité que ça en a l'air.    … Expand

    S1 is quite fun and different from a lot of the other Disney Star Wars they churn out. Let's be honest, though, it's no masterpiece.

    Para algunos, el primer episodio podría haber sido insípido, pero puedo decir que el futuro de este programa será genial, el CGI está en el punto, el aspecto mandaloreano es increíble. Definitivamente recomiendo esta serie.

    The Mandalorian is my favorite new show of 2019, my favorite Star Wars show of all time, and one of my top 10 favorite shows of all time. The visual effects were remarkable and some of the best visual effects I have ever seen in TV and movies and were to the same level of quality as all of the Star Wars movies. The writing and characterization was outstanding especially characterization ofThe Mandalorian is my favorite new show of 2019, my favorite Star Wars show of all time, and one of my top 10 favorite shows of all time. The visual effects were remarkable and some of the best visual effects I have ever seen in TV and movies and were to the same level of quality as all of the Star Wars movies. The writing and characterization was outstanding especially characterization of the Mandalorian/Din Djarin and The Child characters. The Child is funny and adorable, he is one of my top 10 favorite Star Wars characters, my favorite new character of 2019, one of the cutest character ever, and one of my favorite characters of all time. The new creatures were awesome, cool, and some were very cute especially Ravinaks, Mudhorns, Sorgan Frogs, Krill, and Blurrg. Pedro Pascal's leading performance was phenomenal and Taika Waititi, Amy Sedaris, Nick Nolte, Gina Carano, Jake Cannavale, Carl Weathers, Bill Burr, Emily Shallow, Natalia Tena, Richard Ayoade, and Clancy Brown gave superb supporting performances. The costumes were stupendous especially the ones that Pedro Pascal, Emily Shallow, Gina Carano, Bill Burr, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Ming-Na Wen, and Jake Cannavale wore. The makeup and hairstyling was wonderful especially on Natalia Tena, Amy Sedaris, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Clancy Brown, Gina Carano, Pedro Pascal, and Ming-Na Wen. The music was excellent.     Finally found my people. Writing is hopelessly uninspired. There must be 10% of every episode of him just walking around slowly until he arrives at the place, only for nothing to happen. He gets plenty of exercise, but when does something happen?!... Just watching episode 5 at this second, and hoping it somehow gets better... It kinda reminds of the original Star Wars in that the story is not really complex and it doesn't go out of its way to avoid or subvert cliches.     I also really like how it extends the Star Wars universe, the imagination is impressive and it feels like a lived-in world.

    One other minor nitpick (aside from the plot) but I don't actually think Pedro Pascal puts in that great a performance. I know he dubbed some scenes but occasionally the Mandalorian's dialogue felt lifeless. I'm unsure if this was a specific choice as I normally quite like Pascal's acting. Either way, it was a little jarring at times and is an elemnt I'm not a huge fan of.    … Expand

The dialogue feels like it was written by 12 year olds making a fan film. "There seems to be a lot of carbon scoring"... "We've got company" ... "I've got a bad feeling..." . The budget for this show rivals programs like "Stranger Things", or "West World", and while "Mando" VFX are usually quite good, there is no way in hell it's that far beyond what is seen on either of those other shows. So why is it that the writing, acting and directing are so low end?

    People should be embarrassed for liking this show. It's barely a step above getting excited about a JarJar Binks cartoon.    … Expand

    Probably the series that ended the downward spiral for the Star Wars franchise. It created strong characters that you care for, relate to and want to know more of. This is especially praiseworthy because the Mandalorian played by Pedro Pascal always wears his helmet. It works because it follows the “Show not tell” rule. The show is much like Sergio Leones western where they speak not much but the scenery, mimic, expressions and pacing fills the gaps more than enough. Then there is the strong additional cast. Lets start with “Baby Yoda” who is named officially as the child but the first name sticks to the character and will be used. He is mostly practical effects by puppeteers and works amazing. Strong chemistry with the cast. Carl Weathers as leader of the bounty hunter guild is a master scoundrel, trickster and interesting character. IG-11 the bounty hunting droid steals the show and he won me over. Kuiil by Nick Nolte is another favorite. Great backstory, smart and a noble soul;“I have spoken”;-). With former rebel shock trooper Cara Dune played by Gina Carano we have a strong addition to the cast. She is smart, kicks as and will win you over easily. Bonus points for Emily Swallow as The Armorer, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon who you will love to hate and others I wont spoil. The story is pretty good and it gets better and better as new characters were introduced, you learn more backstories and the development / interactions start. It starts with the Mandalorian picking a special bounty hunt that is granted under the table. He did not know that this changes his life drastically. More I will not spoil. It is also the lore and world-building that improves the show. The Mandalorian codex (This is the way), the outskirts of the Star Wars galaxy that are mostly abandoned by law, the bounty hunters (and their guild) and the remains of the Empire are grabbing your attention. There are also underlying philosophical aspects that can be argued about. Good vs evil and shades of gray of this. Nature and nurture or parenting and family. The sets and special effects are also top notch and I think they did an excellent job. Overall this has hearth, soul, great characters and you always feel engaged and want more. Easily a 10/10 and I am hyped for season two. That is the way and I have spoken;-).… Expand

    They went all in with the empire is a bad joke and they tend to fail in everything they do. When you watch episode after episode how bad the empire gets beat in everything it takes a lot out of it. there's never any feeling that any of characters are even slightly in danger.

    The razor crest is a joke of a ship that needs constant repair which is also a joke since they basically repair it with a screwdriver most of the time. how is the ship space-worthy is a mystery.

    It's sad the Star Wars which have captured the hearts and minds of many has come to this low point. Why not improve on what's there? it's mystery why it needs to keep getting dumber and dumber.

    John Favreau and Dave Filoni provide us, a fantastic story with touches between space opera and western, taking inspiration Jhon Ford movies, 40`s and 50´s space operas and spaguetti westerns. The plot even simple, as it    The Mandalorian: season 1 has been a breath of fresh air for Star Wars franchise, after the dissapointing movies Episode VII and VIII, and the horrible episode IX.

    The plot even simple, as it is protect a baby, gets to be catching and expands the Star Wars universe.

    I realize why many people like it, but I do not feel the same. It is lab-engineered to be liked, as long as you do not pay much attention and don't think about it. As soon as you do, it falls apart. It is like a drug laced garbage donut. It is cheap and worthless in it's essence, tailored to lull Star Wars fans in and relying on the massive disgust that many are feeling for the sequels forI realize why many people like it, but I do not feel the same.     Among the myriad of shortcomings, there are the following main turds points:

    - the main characters are wooden, boring, and horribly undeveloped
    - the acting is dull, lifeless, and corny
    - the bad guys are such incompetent weenies there is zero sense of tension; their ineptitude is supposed to be funny, but it’s just stupid
    - the famous actor cameos in each episode are distracting and the otherwise good actors are mired with weak, corny dialogue
    - our main character is supposed to come from this order of unprincipled, career bounty hunter/warriors, but he’s really just a soft wimp (who is not really a particularly skilled fighter) that doesn’t have a heart for hurting anyone, and yet somehow is able to dispatch countless bad guys, often without even hurting them.
    - his sidekick ex-shock trooper buddy is supposed to be believable as a great warrior basically because she has a lame 1990’s era armband tattoo.

    I'm not a real Star Wars fan...but this is legit. It feels like the old trilogy. Some episodes are better than others but it is a good show overall. I will see season 2.

    This is a very good show and it kept me hooked through the entire season. Had a good plot but there was no clear direction. It felt like it was slowing down during the middle three episodes but that doesn't mean they were bad. The main character the mandalorian is a great character that I enjoyed watching.     It was too gimmicky, too much cute baby Yoda, the episode that really killed it for me was the Seven Samurai knockoff, there was absolutely no inflection, pure knockoff. Mandalorians are supposed to be selfish and unattached, can't throw that out before it is even established. All around, a polished turd.

    Love the style of the show. It's gritty but not to the point that you can't watch it with your kids. It definitely has that "star wars" feel to it's production. I enjoyed the character progression of mando, how he begins the show seeming to want to just exist as a bounty hunter, but by the end of the show he has new priorities. I hope they continue down this road in season 2.

Mystrious race with vague connections to the original movies? Check! Murky quest of a mercenary? Check! Great effects? Check. There's nothing bad I can say. I did like the first episode but it went down hill from there, with only a few moments that brought it up a little at the end. “Cash grab” is the only way I can accurately describe it. I did like the Easter eggs and the attention to the lore, but most all the introductions and additions felt forced and unnatural.     "Mandalorian" has a soul. The soul of this good old SW universe.
    It's really good series. I like characters (except for twi'leks and red-face buddy in 6th ep), I like the atmosphere, I like acting, I like dialogues, I like emotions I see from Mando.

    It's alright, I liked how short the episodes were and how the plot lines were completed by the end of the episode. But now its formula is becoming too simple, I think that the season being only 8 episodes is it's saving grace.

The level of production is certainly high but it lacks any depth or character development.     Even the random episodes at least feel like a “fun hang” with the characters and universe. Can’t help but wonder if the Solo movie would have fit better in this format. It’s fun and I want more of this kind of Star Wars.

    I'm a huge SW fan so I am biased, but this show is great. its the best thing Disney has done yet. there are still two episodes left of season one so I just hope they stick the landing.

    It's a show that's severely lacking, and I mean basic things like creativity, suspense, excitement, emotion and, as if I had expected otherwise, originality, like, maybe having it's own visual style?
    And you know what it's also lacking? Running time!
    With episodes of only a little more than 30 minutes, isn't it obvious that they have no real stories to tell?
    We literally see short episodes, with simplistic plotlines and solutions.
    In episode 4, omg, arriving on a planet getting to know some people, training a town and fighting some villains and an AT-ST, all in 30 minutes? That's as unsatisfying as eating icing without the cake!

    And, unexpectedly, it has a typical Lucas-fault, that is, lack of visible emotion.
    The main character wears his helmet all the time. Other characters are either cgi or with heavy silicon makeup or...also wearing helmets.
    But when actual actors with human faces appear, they are appreciated, like Carl Weathers, Werner Herzog and Gina Carano (great!). But those interactions are too short to really make a difference.
    Real acting, facial expressions can elevate weak material to something worth watching. Those opportunities are mostly lost here.
    And one question: Is the Mandalorian really played by Pedro Pascal or do we only hear his voice?
    I believe the latter is true. It's the logical and cost efficient way to go under these circumstances.

    As for originality: When you see the action scenes, do you see anything interesting or cool?
    Like, the gunfights. The other bounty hunters want to kill 'Mando', a gunfight ensues and it looks so generic, like dozens of gunfights you've seen before.
    Nothing in this show is fresh, compelling or original, be it the dialog, the sets, the action, the cgi effects...the visuals in general.
    It all looks like they weren't really trying, but just cashing in.

    As for saving money:
    Remember the scene with the green guy (episode 2?) 'Mando' froze in carbonite?
    Did we see some cool freezing effect? No, just as in 'The Empire Strikes Back', we see some steam blowing up and the next thing we see is him 'frozen' in carbonite.
    Are we in the seventies? Wth? It's 2019!
    Think what you will about 'Star Trek Discovery'. Yes, it's not good, it's barely half a Star Trek show, it's full of gender politics. But visually, it's in a different league than this show. CBS spent some money for this.

    'The Mandalorian' looks like it was made with the minimal effort necessary to get it done.
    First I wanted to give it a 5, but after writing this review I realized that the show is too underwhelming and the 30 minute format gives me no hope I'll see something meaningful or something with substance. Sorry, only a 4.    … Expand

    This show is lacking a main story. So far, it just a compilation of mini stories with hope for a main story. It’s well made and I do want to keep watching, but my patience is wearing thin. Give viewers some story, bit a just a taste here and a flash there!

    I'm rating this high not because it is anything better than the original movies, but because it captures the world of them so well. I'm not a star wars fan at all, but I had fun with the show. Yes, infact the voice of the main character will make you want to see if Clint Eastwood's younger persona is hiding under the helmet.

    I feel like they do a pretty good job with visual story telling over the tired trend of today's lazy writers who need their characters to explicitly tell you things. This also requires acting, and sadly one of the drawbacks of the show is that the main character is shrouded in helmeted obscurity. So physicality is even more important to his character.

    It doesn't try to weave some massive grand narrative and it doesn't make the hero invincible, in fact, he gets his butt kicked pretty hard, and gets into dicey situations that require him to actually work at.

    Sound effects in the jawa episode were....uh, surprisingly bad. I think they were going for comedy, but it just ruined things. Though overall it holds up.

    I hope to see more of this show. I don't expect it to be god tier sci-fi, because star wars itself isn't really all that special in my opinion. But for what it is, this show meets the standards a star wars fan would want, and from the perspective of an action adventure, this show hits it off strong.    … Expand

The show feels hollow, mainly because the characters get no development (something to do with 30 minute episodes). Episode 4 was the worst thus far. A seen-before-many-times theme of a helpless village needing help from evil raiders. Even star-trek did this concept too many times. Why are TV/movie makers so afraid of writing something original?
    Everything is familiar. The Mandalorian is familiar. Yoda. Bounty Hunters. AT-STs. Stormtroopers. There is nothing original in this show.     Excellent series that captures very well the essence of Star Wars. Now I dont miss the Boba Fett cancelled movie anymore. This is way better.. a whole great Star Wars series centered on a Bounty Hunter is like a dream come true.

    Even when the first scene can give you the sense that you are going to see another retelling of the same star wars story, the strength of the show is actually that it is not original star wars with a younger cast like in the Disney movies. Also the costumes and locations don't look cheap, the cgi maybe, but that is part of the sw universe too haha

    This show is just plain awesome. After the travesty of the last couple of movies and no doubt the next one, this show is the only thing keeping the star wars universe alive for me. Would like some more depth and backstory to the characters and show but hoping that will come soon. I think I speak for everyone when I say they had better include the darksaber at some point in this series!

    I'm enjoying the slow start of it. It's still holding my attention and the filming is beautiful. I am enjoying the lack of dialog because it fits. The fact that each episode comes out every Friday it makes it easy to keep up to date. Excited to see where this goes

I’ve talked to over 20 people about this show and everyone has loved it! This review bomb nonsense needs to stop. Does it have its faults, yes. Is it cheesy at times, yes. But that’s what SW is all about. It’s honest and it doesn’t care what you think. It’s unapologetically here for the fans! What it is not here for is the review bombers who probably illegally downloaded it and/or didn’t actually watch it at all. If you took the time to watch this you’d know it’s impossible for it to receive a 0 score. Heck, even 8 is too low on my opinion. This show is pure gold and I can’t wait to see where the show goes in the next couple years. It has plenty of action, little bits of humor here and there, but not so much that it takes away from the mysterious persona of the main character. Jon Favreau did an amazing job telling a story taking place after the fall of the empire. There a throwbacks a-plenty just in the first episode, and if you look closely, you might be able to see a familiar character in the background. Overall, everyone involved did an amazing job. A grittier take and (take notes Rian Johnson) very good humor and nice surprises. Not been huge on Star Wars without Jedi but this show so far is way better than TLJ. Even if you’re just a casual Star Wars fan this show should not be missed.     I liked it. It was fast paced, straight to the point, but at the same time built the characters through action. Excited to see how the pace the show. The second episode felt like a show that builds upon the Star Wars lore, rather than just leech of the franchise.

    just to counter balance the review bombing 0's im giving this a 10 ! i do not believe its a 10 i think its more in line with a 8.0 . this show should be rewarded for its bold direction , great practical effects , very interesting twist ending and lovely art and aesthetic.

    If you love star wars this is for you.

    Just pure awesomeness. This is exactly what Star Wars COULD be and SHOULD be. I'm still blown away from it all. With its high production value, stellar cast, INCREDIBLE visuals, gritty plot, and action all throughout, this is easily one of...or better yet, the best thing in Disney's Star Wars reign next to Rogue One.

Looks breathtaking, real puppets, better and more intense then even Solo. No forced childish humor, and no stupid force powers that suddenly enable people to talk like on Skype. There is real normal tension here. After the Last Jedi iFinally something new in Star Wars on the same level of Roque One. It has western coolness all over, with some hints to Return of the Jedi in the background. Looks breathtaking, real puppets, better and more intense then even Solo. No forced childish humor, and no stupid force powers that suddenly enable people to talk like on Skype. There is real normal tension here.     A new story that bridges all the other stories with homages and call backs while moving into new ground, ideas and lore. Beautiful cinematography, expert direction, and a story that promises to keep on giving.

    This first episode exudes the Star Wars i know and love. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have my thanks! The western feel is perfect amd NO, Mandalorians don't typically remove their helmets... I personally can't wait to see more. Im glad they are respecting the lore and adding to it.

    Its issues hew toward the fundamentals of direction, performance, and dialogue, more problems of basic filmmaking skill than miscalculated vision. Favreau started from a more specific, vivid place than in his jobs for Marvel or on Disney’s wretched Lion King remake. Unlike his nomadic antihero, however, he doesn’t take it much of anywhere.
