Arcane was a masterpiece, a little woke but with an amazing story.
ROP is not worth watching because of the flatness of its dialogue and story.

I made it until episode 4, 0:16min before saying "Stop, I will not waste my time", I will watch Game Of Throne instead.

I give it a 2/10 because the Visual Effect studio did a nice job on the few panoramic shots.

Another case of corporate hubris. They buy up a long established, beloved and revered franchise and just throw out the story for their own version. “Screw the author and screw the fans; we know better.”

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The good: Beautiful music, good visuals, sometimes good CGI, I think the actors are mostly fine. I find the Elrond and Durin storyline quite enjoyable. The bad: Everything else. Galadriel's behavior is inexplicably both stupid and amoral. She jumps out of a boat in the middle of the ocean and attempts a swim that would take weeks at least to complete back to Middle Earth. She threatens murder on several occasions to get what she wants. The scene where she shoves four Numenorean guards (who possess super-human strength) into a cell is just embarrassing. The harfoots want to abandon one of their own due to a injured foot, despite clearly possessing cart technology. What do they do when someone is pregnant? The timeline is a total mess (I'm a huge Tolkien nerd so I know my stuff), with events thousands of years apart mixed together haphazardly. Sometimes the orcs are allergic to sunlight and other times they're fine. About half the segments are simply boring. If the meteor man turns out to be a Wizard, then it's a spectacular fail from a lore perspective (just saying). Not recommended. A big disappointment, especially considering how the writers claimed they wanted to stay true to Tolkien. Clearly what they really wanted was a fantasy show full of moral ambiguity and drama like Game of Thrones because money. I'd suggest getting a whole new writing team to dramatically correct course. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I get into the show's issues, I ask anyone reading this to look to the left at the critic score, and then to the right at the viewer score. Don't you find it interesting that there are little to no negative reviews from critics? Please think about how interesting it is that people the creators have access to have nothing negative to say, even slightly negative. Please just think of that.

Watching the show and knowing anything about Tolkien's work, anything from the books to the movies, this will feel like you are being punished for knowing anything. This series cannot function with any of the events in the movies or books, as it clearly does not mean to. It is beyond clear that this show was not made by people that know anything about how this world works, instead making their own show while grave robbing the names of Tolkien.

However, I know it is likely that this review will be ignored as merely a butthurt Tolkien fan, so I will instead talk about the show itself without regard to its source material. The main character of the show is insufferable, willing to sacrifice members of how own people to chase her own personal mission- that in the view of the show is likely fruitless. She often offends and complains to those that provide her aid, yelling and insulting the captain and queen who provide her with accommodation even though they have reason to be distrustful of her. She volunteers a man to put his life on the line against his will and without his knowledge because she wants him to do something for her. The thing that makes this so bad is the fact that the show doesn't see this as wrong, the show portrays her as being in the right for doing these awful things. Next, let's talk about the actual writing as well. The story is about the return of Sauron, and the efforts of Galadriel to get people to move to try and destroy this evil. The main issue with this storyline is how watered down it is. So much of the story is fluff, that overall does not play into the overall narrative being told. The story of Adar and the Southlands is overall meaningless to the story of the forging of the rings and the return of Sauron. You may say that it shows Sauron appearing and taking over Mordor, however, it is not required for this story to be told over this length of time. We know how this story is going to end, which doesn't necessarily make it bad, it's the fact that the story wants to be invested in what is going to happen, not how. We know what is going to happen, so why is the story asking us to wonder? If you say that this is meant to show how this affects the everyday person, here's the thing, you don't need to spend this much time on it. My main proof for this is the prologue to The Fellowship of the Ring. There is a brief montage that shows Sauron laying siege to the Southlands, and that is sufficient. Here the story is the culmination of the two biggest problems of the show, it is a way to pad out time, and a way to have a mystery box. The show wastes so much time, trying to tell stories that ask "what will happen" when we know the answer, repeats storylines, adds several nonsequiturs and often has nothing stories. Then there lies the other main offense, the mystery boxes. The show constantly sets up useless mysteries that I can guarantee you will be terribly answered. This show was made by disciples of JJ Abrams and it is very clear. The story is not about telling a fulfilling narrative, but hooking you by making you wait to see what the answer to its useless questions is. "Who is Halbrand really?" oh you mean the man from the Southlands who said 'looks can be deceiving who is trying to remain in Numenor while the forces of good are away, who has a dark past with violent tendencies who loves to forge with an almost unnatural talent? Sauron. "Who is this mysterious guy who fell from the Heavens?" oh you mean the old guy with a long beard, grey hair, who wears grey robes, loves to hang around with Hobbit- I mean Harfoots, has an incredible affinity for magic, and knows the mysterious languages of birds and beasts? Gandalf. This sort of stuff is painful.

Please, do not support this trash, let it be known that we consumers expect better, and do not let the shills silence you by strawmaning you into being a Racist or something. Be smart, and be strong

The fight scenes are embarrassing and horribly edited. The costumes look artificial. The weapons and armor look plastic and have just come out of a Chinese factory. The plot is uninteresting and develops extremely slowly. I've never heard such bad dialogues before - an embarrassing story about a stone or other miracles ... As if a six-year-old wrote them.

The views in this show are all to praise, though it doesn't look like a $ 500 billion show. Unfortunately, the series has nothing to do with the work of Tolkien. I do not recommend.

The acting was wooden particularly Galadriel (one dimensional at best), the writing woeful and it moved at a glacial pace. I have now watched 5 episodes and if anything the story just gets worse. Galadriel continues to be awful, her facial expressions never change no matter what the scene - a real franchise killer here. I have not found one character or story line which is engaging and pulls me in to continue watching - the Harfoot storyline and crazy meteorite guy is particularly mind numbing. The writing continues to be pedestrian and the pace is still glacial. The storyline is also falling apart in terms of inconsistencies in logic and across relative timelines - beyond poor. It looks like the budget was spent on CGI - it’s not evident anywhere else. Season 5 was my final watch…….frankly it’s just boring. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 1 Point for graphics
I'll tell you why the series based on the Lord of the Rings franchise is bad. And it's not about black actors
What's good about the show is the graphics.
And by the way, I noticed that you use the creators of Amazon the Trident of Ukraine as a symbol of Sauron in the cave. What are these allusions to my country?
Everything looks juicy. Cons. - Agenda. It reads right away. The elves are shown as vile haters, and Galadriel is alone. Second elves. Why aren't they all pretty? Why with short haircuts and why old ones? Although elves are forever young. Why did the make-up artists badly worked out the images of elves, hobbits, people who were made homeless, why did they make lines where elves fall in love with people? They honor the purity of blood. Because people are all mortal. Why are the elves shown as dystrophics in the first series, except for Galadriel, and she alone includes Legolas, although he single-handedly smashed the army of orcs and a huge elephant? Third. Plot. Honestly, I tried not to sleep. But the dialogue is poor. Everyone sticks to their own line. Not a single strong male character. Apparently if they appear, they will be killed. And Galadriel alone will dance like a ninja. Why so many obscure characters? I read the book a long time ago, but I'm a fan of Tolkien's universe and entourage, and it hurts me how carelessly they worked with the appearance and plot of two series. I fell asleep on the second episode. I watched it later in rewind at a speed of +5, so at least funny voices like those of Chip and Dale. In particular, I laughed at the way that man behaved among the hobbits. Guys before praising the series. Set yourself a rule - Read at least The Hobbit or Books on the Lord of the Rings. There are strong characters there. There is a story. There is morality, but what kind of morality is this? Is Galadriel another Captain Marvel? Because strong? And where is the moral? What does this series contain? Nothing.. I'm disappointed. I expected more. If the truth in the series will also be sex scenes and it will spin into some kind of phantosmagoria where an orc will love a person, or a gnome a troll, then you can put an end to this. It is understandable why Peter Jackson did not face this. The series came out flat and superficial. I'd rather read books. Which is what I advise you. And ask a question. They didn't tell us why Sauron is bad, what did he do? They didn't say anything.. In general
Time wasted in vain

Instead we get a insufferable Galdriel as the main character, nothing like Tolkiens character, instead she's like an immortal Xena, a rough and ready human with pointy ears instead of the Lady of Light despite her being thousands of years old at this point. We get poor cheesy dialogue, terrible visuals in regards to the elves, they simply looks nothing like Tolkiens Elves on the most part, i.e Arondirs always super fresh haircut and Celebrimbor that looks like an old Hobbit. Don't even get me started on the evil Harfoots..."nobody gets left behind" or is it "sorry we have to leave you behind to die because you have a twisted ankle". Halbrand who is just a poor mans Aragorn. Dwarven females with no beard and randomly dark skin despite living in darkness, yet orcs who also live in the same environment of darkness basically being albino, which actually makes sense, just another of many inconsistencies, to many to list here. They've done a terrible job with the regal Numenoreans, I mean "they took our jobs" low-class men. So much lore changed from Tolkien and just made up. I wish I could give this less than zero as I really wish it had never been made, it breaks my heart. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is not consistent with Tolkien, and the characters that overlap LOTR bear no resemblance to each other. But even as standalone original work it is awful. Some examples:
Episode 1 - Galadriel is almost in Valinor, changes her mind, and tries to swim home, hundreds of miles across an OCEAN. I think the improbability engine from Hitchhikers Guide activated, because she was rescued.
Episode 1 - Galadriel leaps 30 feet in the air to kill an ice troll with her sword. She is Galadriel, not Wonder Woman. Her superpowers are not explained.
Episode 2 - Galadriel, stranded on a raft, mindlessly tugs on a rope for 3 minutes, while bragging to the mortal stranded with her that she is older than the Moon. Not a way to make yourself likeable, and what director leaves an actor in that situation with nothing to do with her hands during a long scene? And for a character that is already many thousands of years old, why has she not learned basic social skills, to not antagonize the person she is stranded on a raft with?
Episode 1 and 2 - the only enemies killed in hand to hand combat were by Galadriel and a completely untrained human woman. This after her young son, who can’t weight 100 pounds. violates basic physics by, tied to a rope, pulls up and captures a 200 pound orc using the rope as a pulley. If he was gripping an anvil to balance the weight this would work, but not in any real world.
Episode 3 - During a POW escape from the orcs, an Elf officer with CENTURIES of experience and training, once he is freed, throws his weapon to one side, goes up the hill, then stands there totally oblivious to being in an active war zone and gets killed by an orc arrow.

The long conversation between Elrond and the Dwarf King in episode 2 is the only dialogue so far that seems to be written by grownups. Most of the rest is at the complexity of a children’s cartoon.

I am fine with a diverse cast. You can go the direction of Peter Jackson in LOTR, where each ethnic group looks like a distinct ethnic group, or go to a diverse cast. Neither is good or bad, just a basic casting decision. But so far there is only one good or likable white male main character, the dwarf king.. It would rightfully be considered offensive if every Black character was evil, but it is no better to stereotype almost all white male characters as corrupt or evil. Elrond is a slimy politician in this version.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From the great halls of the Valar... we get a squandered IP that is only saved by its Music and sometimes visuals of the show.

How did it come to this? Bad writing, bad acting, and a disdain for meaningful character development leads to mick that the show is. It makes Galadriel an incompetent fool, all elvish men toxic and selfish, and any other characters meaningless.

Amazon would have done better to create a story about water than it does to give any personality to its characters

Although I might assume Tolkien have intended his books and his imaginative world would have been visualized as in this series, but I think even he would not have imagined it could have been this great. The series is well casted, character development well thought out. The overall feel of the authentic Tolkien world experience have been wonderfully captured on screen both with CGI and wonderful story telling and screenplay writing. Even the orcs have personalities, which in the trilogy movie by Peter Jackson the orcs were depicted as mindless beasts, in the tv series they actually have personalities of their own. There are liberties taken to add a diversity of actors from different ethnicities, but that didn't bother me and didn't do the story wrong, as Tolkiens world is fantasy, nobody ever said the different places belongs to certain ethnicities, as like in our own world it would be logical that there a diversity of races and ethnicties. And furthermore all the actors were not placed there only to add diversity, they did a wonderful job depicting their roles! For me this is the epitome of storytelling and I am eager to watch more of this! Expand

The performances of the actors were very artificial (except for the spectacular performance of Nazanin Boniadi) and the script was so weak and ridiculous that it was as if you were watching a children's TV show! All the heroes of the series were women and all the cowards and slaves were men! The story line of the series was very dumb and vague so that it was not possible to distinguish what the main purpose of the characters of the series is and what they are looking for. In general, you will not lose anything by not watching this series and you will also save time. Expand

Lord breaking. Insult to Tolkiens work. Decided the “perverse” characters like Tolkien said he hated. He had many more quotes that align with things in the show that he hated. Don’t try to make Tolkiens work without his ideals.
