The story is all over the place, there are lots of characters who seem to serve no purpose for the story, instead the story seems to bend over backwards to serve the justification of characters being there. I thought Galadriel was supposed to be the main character, but after the introduction she just seems to drift from scene to scene doing stuff that serves no purpose to the development of the story while we are watching some b-plots that spawn from unnecassary fabricated conflict and go nowhere. I would be %100 ok if this show did not jump to conflict and took the time to show us characters in their daily lives (its supposed to be an "era of peace") so we get to know them, and the world. But no characters are stuck trying to overcome pointless obstacles in arc that lead nowhere.

Amazon is incapable of doing anything that's not evil and soulless.
This series is as good as New World was a good RPG.
This is not Tolkien, not Lord of the Rings, neither a decent series. The evil unionbuster company that punishes employers for using the bathroom wants to wokewash this reputation by making expensive series. They'll need actually good series for that. Censoring IMDb

This is why don't give fanfiction a 700mil. budget, it's just awful how they managed to butcher a classic masterpiece and how they seem to like doing it. One of the worst adaptations ever seen, the Disneyfication of Lord of the Rings. Let's just forget it exists alongside Disney's star wars.

Manny have pointed out that the screenplay writers do not have any successes to their name; that really shows. It would also behoove Amazon to hire a lead actor who had the ability to present a likeable heroine the next time they attempt something with a scale anywhere close to this enormous. Expand

For such a beloved franchise, with as much cultural importance as it has, Middle Earth deserves more respect and love than this farse.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Visually nice, but the story is bad fan fiction very loosely based on Tolkien’s work with no regard for even the spirit of the books. Several lore breaking changes (hobbits and istari in the wrong age, zena warrior princess Galadriel, etc) and the worst are the changes against the spirit of the books. Galadriel bullied in Valinor, old man elves, boring new characters, etc. All for the agenda of making Galadriel something the protagonist of the 2nd Age due to identify politics and the belief that Tolkien’s work needs updating for a modern audience. The arrogance is jaw dropping. Expand

Frodo: No, Sam. I don't remember when Hollywood wasn't dominated by far left activists using the story as a vehicle for them to push their liberal pieties on the rest of us. I don't remember a time when every plot point wasn't viewed as an opportunity for the writers and producers to virtue signal to one another, rather than tell an interesting story or transport us briefly from the pain of living.

This show has good special effects and cinematography. Everything else is a disaster.

A question for Hollywood: Why does Wakanda (a fantasy construct of an African country) get to represent a fully black culture, but Asgard (a fantasy construct of an ancient Nordic country) or LOTR (which Tolkien specifically stated was a protohistory of Europe) has to be racially diverse?

Tell me, by what mechanism would a little village in an era before cars and planes have people with skin adapted to both the climates of Ireland and the African savannah? Dragons and trolls are more believable than asking us to accept this absurdity.

Adar’s début drips with signifiers. ... When Adar informs Arondir in Episode 4 that he has been told many lies, some that “run so deep even the rocks and roads now believe them,” it is still a thrill. Tolkien succeeded in creating a mythic world, one that has now grown vast enough through acts of typological repetition and imitation to conquer television, too.

With war brewing and the forging of the rings seemingly still far off, the first half of The Rings of Power’s first season constitutes little more than stage-setting for the struggle to come. Given the lack of quests and central commanding figures, it often makes for less-than-gripping drama. However, given that there are four more seasons already planned, and potentially dozens of new characters to be introduced, the slow and throat-clearing build is possibly a good sign.
