The Last Ship doesn't break any new ground on TV but with Michael Bay at the helm, it offers a reasonably diverting season of pure entertainment and explosive cheese.

I hope it gets better. The previews looked amazing, so I was looking forward to seeing this show. In the first episode we got a long fight scene and characters that are hard to care about. I like the cast but the show is too contrived. Every piece is predictable and strained. Like I said - I hope it gets better.

First EP, i thought "meh its ok but not more".The story is predictable up to this point. The characters are not interesting and i dont care if they die or not.The reason is we dont know **** about them and they are not in the mood to tell you some backroundstory(only for the Captains which is not enough).Instead the show got some fights and stupid flashy scenes.I couldnt care less aboutFirst EP, i thought "meh its ok but not more".The story is predictable up to this point. The characters are not interesting and i dont care if they die or not.The reason is we dont know **** about them and they are not in the mood to tell you some backroundstory(only for the Captains which is not enough).Instead the show got some fights and stupid flashy scenes.I couldnt care less about that part.Theyve even tried to shock the audience with the suicide of the crewmember when he is exposed to the virus. This atempt to shock me failed completely because there is no relationship between me(as the viewer) and the character. That came too early.Poor planing and im sure this show borrowed some stuff from the movie "USS Charleston"(i think thats the englisch title, its the movie/minishow with Armand Assante).Bad choices in the cast too.Rona Mitra?I think thats not a role for her.Shes not exactly a good actor and her expresion is always the same.Thats not realy promising if they think this is a good choice for a doctor that has a major role in the show.Visuals are ok, thx to the navy. The show needs to improve A LOT cause it competes agianst my Last Resort experience from last year and the pilot lost pretty hard so far. As a retired naval officer, I was reasonably satisfied with the series until the 20 July program. Both the Captain and X.O. would not have left the ship to pursue a dangerous mission up the river. The Captain's primary responsibility is the safety of the crew and the ship and he would have remained aboard his command while the X.O. led the shore party. Great drama in the jungle with the bandidos, but again very unlikely that both the CO and XO would have gone back to save the damsels in distress, risking their lives and the safety of the ship and crew. They would have sent an armed detachment back to fight evil, after they had safely delivered the research monkeys to the ship. The navy technical adviser must have been on vacation for this episode since it was so unrealistic and unbelievable. Even Capt Kirk and Spock would have been disappointed in this episode. This show has great action, excellent characters with good acting and I was enjoying it very much until this episode went "up the river".

Not happy at all with way the show is heading Less posturing by Captain Dreamy and more realism Lets use the "Last ship" and never mind the jungles of Costa Rica

The episode with the Russian Kirov class was technically weak but interesting

This show was way too hard to follow and told little to no actual story. It could have been a lot Bette faith a real plot instead of a few scattered action scenes.

Full disclosure: I am such a sucker for stories like this. But, that said, there are an awful lot of anomalies one has to overlook to stay on-board (pardon the pun) with the arc of this narrative. The critic "Wolivere" got a lot of it right, btw. More and more I see shows written by people who know squat about the actual world. As a cruising sailor I was aghast at the stupidity of the Robert Redford film "All is Lost." Completely ridiculous situations that no skilled sailor would ever find himself/herself confronted by. Likewise, both the science/technology errors and the the chain of command nuttiness of this series should drive me running away in frustration. But, I do keep coming back. Must be a character flaw on my part. I am going to give this nautical turkey a 6.5 because it does keep me coming back. Some real effort has gone into the production values. And, for no reason I can explain yet, I do care about some of the characters. Expand

I'm sure they will get here by episode 3 or so. It would have been a better series before walking dead, and back in 2002 when military fetishism was more in vogue. Also if you are like 13 years old and male, that would help. Now its just all a bit tedious. Expand

The show started out interesting and a bit different. Some of the actions by the crew got a little silly, but that's normal for TV. The last episode changed everything. Now it looks like a second season will simply be another version of "Revolution".

A below average show featuring mediocre (read: unsophisticated) attempts at thrills, obnoxious stereotyping, unrealistic backstory, rushed romance, family drama and bland character development leading to many interactions where you simply don't even care about what's going on. Pretty mediocre after you get past the premise. Basically Star Trek on the ocean. Each week they meet new civilizations and deal with some conflict.

It’s been a “24”-like thrill ride so far, with baddies coming at the ship right and left to get their hands on the doc and the in-the-works cure.

The Last Ship aims for a big-canvas feel, but based on the first three episodes, the one-dimensional characters and action movie cliché dialogue ("Guys, let's do this thing!") make it feel cramped.

The Last Ship is a naval recruitment ad for the apocalypse, and these waters look shallow. Careful before sticking your toe in.
