the story was there, the characters were there and yet they decided to change it.
why take something beloved by fans and make something else out of it? those changes have hurt the story and its impact.

those changes have hurt the story and its impact.
it's now a hollow shell of its former self.

It's well made and looks rather good overall but it's far from good tv. watch it if you're bored.
you might enjoy it more if you haven't played the games but I doubt it will be something you remember.

What's the point of survival when people who survive can't have kids? Might as well surrender to zombies and get the whole ordeal over with. Specifically talking about that awful Episode 3 here.

Also, i can't stand Bella Ramsey... I don't know who she is supposed to be playing but is not Ellie, Pedro Pascal make me believe he is Joel from episode 1, but Bella obviously never play the game, Ellie was not an always-anger cμnt. I think she is putting too much Lyanna Mormont on this role. So, Pedro is ok and production is decent, that's all.

Niel Druckman is completely focused on destroy the original TLoU story with his woke activism.

ITaking a nuanced moment from the game and expanding it into a beautiful story expertly told was a pleasant surprise from the first two episodes that had me both emotionally devastated me but had me feeling positively euphoric at the end. I was already enjoying the series and the detail in following the plot line from the game was immaculate, even with side by side shots/dialogue which gave me goosebumps and has me playing the game all over again. I highly recommend the show if you're a fan of the games though it ses you need to have working brain cells to recognise that other love stories deserve to be told and can be told without the loss of plot. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The 3rd episode was not TLOU, call it anything else but not TLOU. I have finished the game like 9 times and Bill's town was one of the most important points for Ellie's an Joel's character development. This episode did almost nothing to do that. Where are all the traps, all Ellie's dialogs with Bill. The part where Bill gets shot is just pure facepalm, standing in the middle of street with no cover and shooting, come one... Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really enjoying where this be going. I look forward to every episode. They're all so full of character, drama, and just enough action and scares to keep me guessing. The little incel boys review-bombing is hilarious, as well. I'm loving the direction, and, while I didn't like her initially, Bella Ramsey is killing it. Perfect Ellie vibes. Let's not forget Pedro Pascal, who is also crushing the reluctant dad role, let's be real. The latest episode has people struggling to cope, and it's fun watching them seethe. Oh and Anna Torv is wonderful on-screen, as always. Anyway Mr. Druckmann is also excellent. The man behind the game also working as director on the series? Top-notch. This is how you do an adaptation. It's not exactly like it, but it's more like the game than anything else would have been. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe that the series isn’t comparable to the game. That said, the series is a relatively good watch, although I will emphasise that I was personally disappointed.

Back in 2013, Naughty Dog crafted a game that wasn’t just good; it was profound. The dialogue, character interactions, atmosphere, infected, etc., were all beautifully designed, especially during cutscenes. In essence, the game was a playable movie, and it captivated its audience.

One would argue that the game is so good (ten years on) even modern technology couldn’t top it. Each episode cost approximately ten to fifteen million dollars, yet the original game roughly cost fifty million. If you put those costs into context, the first series cost anywhere between 90 to one hundred and thirty-five million dollars - a fair bit of change, if you asked me.

The consensus is survival while trying to avoid being eaten, either by infected or human savages. The series hasn’t articulated any substance relative to the apocalypse, especially the original narrative. Currently, there are three episodes which rarely show interactions between the infected and humans, specific to Joel and Ellie. Equally, human savages have not played a part in the series as of yet, either.

While the narrative emphasises a well-designed theme, it seems it has not been executed well, in my opinion. The series has made unexpected and even unnecessary changes to the original storyline. For example, how Tess dies or how Bill develops a flourishing relationship with Frank - which is the polar opposite of the game.

I appreciate that the foundation of The Last of Us was built on a well-written script and that many people argue that zombies are not the main focus of The Last of Us (series). That storytelling is more important, eluding to relationships and character building of the beloved characters of The Last of Us universe. That said, The Last of Us is a game based in a post-apocalyptic world, where flesh-eating fungus-people will do what they can to eat humans, while savages will enslave and kill who they need to. Sadly, the series has put the very fundamentals of the game aside, reducing suspense.

I believe the characters should be the primary focus, while the infected should also be well integrated. Sadly, that is not the case, and while I loved the game, sadly, I do not feel the same about the series; I could quite happily never watch another episode if I base my experience on what I’ve watched so far.

Ultimately, my experience has been subpar. That may be because the game was brilliant; who knows? Nonetheless, I'm not too fond of the series (so far).

My verdict: 5/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This episode has, many, many, many flaws. I am going to start with the most obvious which is the fact that I think the romance between Bill and Frank was unrealistic. It starts off with Bill finding Frank in a hole, and letting him stay in his house. However, despite Bill being lonely, the decision to let some random stranger into his home when Bill is a seasoned paranoid survivalist still seemed unrealistic to me. Even if we give this scene the benefit of the doubt, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Bill then decides to have dinner with Frank, which to me was actually not that bad of a scene, and it was enjoyable seeing Bill loosen up a little bit, a rare part of the episode that actually wants to dedicate time to character building, and getting to see a side of Bill that we wouldn't first expect from him, but still feels natural for the most part. But what sucks is that all of this character building was done for nothing because Frank, a complete stranger to Bill, makes out with him only after a few minutes of talking. I would have liked it more if we saw the relationship build overtime, with Frank failing at his attempts to win over Bill's trust, but slowing developing a stronger relationship with him, and contributing to Bill becoming more optimistic, and also slowly hinting that he had feelings for him. It would have been a more enjoyable arc to see than just a random person you just met becoming your gay lover in the span of 5 minutes. Now I am not one of the people who agree that this is "Agenda", because I think that's bull **** But another big problem I do have with this episode that I think is really important is the fact that it just was not relevant by any means to tell the story of Joel and Ellie. What was the point of this episode? No really? Is this The Last of Us or a gay movie? Because a gay movie is what this episode felt like. It just wasn't important to tell these characters life story to help out with the plot. The whole episode just felt like a rushed romantic movie. The fact is that they could have just have showed some of their life, and then just skip to the part where Joel and Ellie got to their hide out and found them dead, and continued our main story with Ellie getting to the fireflies. That's how simple it could have been. But instead, this episode wastes our time with characters that didn't have any significant impact to the story in the slightest, and can easily be forgotten next episode which makes me angry because they could have done something with these characters. My last point is the pacing. This episode compared to the other two was mildly boring. I just don't think a lot happened that was as noteworthy as the start of the pandemic, or Tess and Joel fighting through infected. I truly wish that the writers learn from this, not because I hate the show, but because I like it and I think it has potential to improve so they don't make any of the future episodes as disappointing as this one. Stick to the heart ofThis series has, so far, done what no other adaptation has been able to do...make a great adaptation. The formula has always been simple but apparently was overlooked by anyone ever adapting a video game. The formula? Stick to the heart of the story...and add depth. I don't know who these people are who desire a shot-by-shot, play-by-play of the game...but that isn't me, and I don't think it is the majority of people. What's the point? The game is already so good, why would you need a live-action version that is the same? They expanded on the world they had already built. Now...I'm going to say something that I find incredibly irritating, and it's about the fan base, which unfortunately includes a lot of ignorant, hateful, incredibly homophobic bigots who have nothing better to do than hate something because they've been taught to hate something and make sure that everyone knows they should hate it too. The fact that the homosexual tones of a specific character were overlooked in the game by many people, says a lot. And now the internet is flooded with a bunch of morons screaming they hate the show, they ruined it, they are pushing the LGBT agenda (there is no agenda...we just happen to exist...I don't know why that is so challenging to understand). Think about the reverse...what if someone said, "they have a straight relationship in this? No. I will not watch. Gross." Get over it please, you're missing out on a wonderful story and you clearly missed out on the actual heartline of the entire story of The Last of Us, which is about the heart...and love...not shoot em up bang bang kill violence. Please grow up. The show is a masterpiece so far. Expand

That's it. I'm done. Two relatively good episodes, and then what? A gay sex scene that did nothing to further the plot. Why?

Just another Agenda driven series sadly.
Everything was going almost fine until that horrific episode 3, which was the last nail in the coffin for me.

The show in episode 3 took a huge nosedive and became typical of most modern shows: sanctimonious drivel with manufactured drama to appease critics, but critics in 2023 are not viewed with the same credibility with the public as they once were and cannot save this show. But Series 3 is just a disgusting unnecessary non-canonical liberal agenda that no one asked for. It has been a long time for everyone to understand and understand that any minorities are obviously in a losing position against the other mass side and it is impossible to sit on two chairs at once. There is a great HBO series - Chernobyl and there are no minorities and various other signs of mass dementia, apparently fear of the Russians has done its job. The evaluation is solely due to the 3 series, even if there is nothing like this in the future, the desire to watch the series has disappeared. Thanks for your attention!
P.S. Regarding the spoilers, I did not note that they exist, because I think everyone already knows this oversight.

Great casting, fantastic recreation of 'the last of us' world and environments. After the first 2 episodes I was concerned I might get bored of the show if I knew everything before it happened. Episode 3 was exceptional and has me excited to continue with the series because it's clear they're going to be expanding on certain storylines and giving more background for certain characters. I will say that episode 3 caught me by surprise, but in a good way. Expand

First the race swapping, I can take. But then when they decided to make Billy, a conservative doomsday prepper misanthrope into a gay guy who kisses and has relations with the first strange weird dude to end up at his doorstep, I turned it off and I won't be watching it anymore.

Another distortion of the source material to benefit your ideology once again. **** this show.

It was like I was watching a different series all together.
I am not homophobic at all, and I wold say the same thing if it was a straight couple, but its now 2023 so in order to make the Gay audience happy they feel like they have to.
And that makes me sick!
Me and many other people will agree that we all wanted to watch a good series based on the game!..
Not a gay romance, if we did there’s a whole section on many platforms

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Episode 3 is not good enough. The cast of Ellie is not correct, shes is not the proper Ellie, Ellie wasnt so grumpy or bad talked her essence is just different. I think that Pedro does a good Joel despite of the poor script. In episode 3 the problem is not the gay relationship but the completely detachment of it from the main story, that is just bad writing. you cannot just make such a huge a empty gap between both stories because that makes the audience just want to go to sleep. It would had been much better to make Joel and Ellie participate from the defense of the place at the end next to Bill at least. So at the end it was them at the gas station, gap, them on the Chevy, too boring. The main problem is that N. Druckmann cant write and he will cover his inability saying that people hate it because they dont like his woke agenda. Expand

Expand

How Joel is portrayed
Music
Scenery

Story is not following exactly what was in the game but takes it as a suggestion. So we can see similarities and not just another let's play.
It is especially good when they were leaving QZ.
And that's all what was good.
Now huge issues:

Actress that is playing Ellie is try hard, and it is visible. She was probably cherrypicked cause she's genderfluid. Bill story - jesus fkin christ, it is again cherrypicked something from the story and nothing that actually was good.

I'm turned off by political allegory and absolutely allergic to woke allegory in media. So believe me when I say that if you are seeing woke allegory in this show you may want to check and make sure you're not the brainwashed one. This show features excellent storytelling, excellent character driven narratives, it remains wholly devoted to it's internal logics. In short, it's not woke propaganda, its genuinely good storytelling. The writers may not share your values but they are trying to entertain you first. There aren't any MEANINGFUL identity swaps or bait and switches (as of episode 3). A family in Boston can believably be of any mix of races. This isn't middle earth. It's 1995 or whatever Boston. It doesn't matter if his wife was White or Asian or Black. The white characters and male characters aren't all bad here. Men are physically stronger than women in this show. The girl lead does a fantastic job and looks like a real person. She's not "ugly" at all she's talented as hell - especially for a young actor. I'm not seeing woke allegory. What I'm seeing here, in the negs, is people who are oversensitive (understandably) about being preached too by leftist virtue signaling.

Please let's agree that this show is how leftist writers SHOULD be writing. They're going to be left leaning, inclusive etc. But this team is putting the story first second and third . Whether you agree with their views we should be able to agree that great art is great art. Episode 3 WAS excellent by any sane measure. If you don't see that then I'm afraid you may have become woke's opposite evil. Why was it bad? If you think it was bad simply because the characters were gay then you are in the wrong. Woke views are bad when they lead to woke allegory which is bad WHEN ITS BAD - whenever it comes before storytelling. It doesn't here. There's no preaching. Nobody marginalizes victimizes or shames the men. There's no warping of reality or history to magnify their repression. They could be a straight couple just as easily and the episode would have worked fine. So the hate just grinds me a bit. I'm usually on the skeptical side but this was great work and top tier entertainment. The only thing keeping this show from being a ten is that zombie stuff feels tired. Even if it's caused by mushrooms. Otherwise perfect show.
