This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The 3rd episode was not TLOU, call it anything else but not TLOU. I have finished the game like 9 times and Bill's town was one of the most important points for Ellie's an Joel's character development. This episode did almost nothing to do that. Where are all the traps, all Ellie's dialogs with Bill. The part where Bill gets shot is just pure facepalm, standing in the middle of street with no cover and shooting, come one... Expand

Ep2

Everyone knows what's going on around the episode 3. People say it's bad writing just because Bill and Frank are gay. Funny enough, they were gay in the game too. Writing in the episode 3 was amazing. Sadly mfs are too fragile to get that.

Edit: 12.3.23

Episode 9 hasn't aired yet. I'm giving this 0 despite thinking it's a solid 6 to lower the average. Mfs give this 10/10 without thinking so why not me? Show just nosedived. Or actually. It didn't. It stayed the same. Week after week Ellie and Joel do **** without meaningul bonding, just going forward on their journey. I'm not going too deep into this. But the show has had good episodes but in the big picture has failed to capture the story. I know what's happening in ep9. And I think it's too early for that. Realistically Joel wouldn't save Ellie. They aren't that close eventhough the show says so. Editing tomorrow.

Also, i can't stand Bella Ramsey... I don't know who she is supposed to be playing but is not Ellie, Pedro Pascal make me believe he is Joel from episode 1, but Bella obviously never play the game, Ellie was not an always-anger cμnt. I think she is putting too much Lyanna Mormont on this role. So, Pedro is ok and production is decent, that's all.

Niel Druckman is completely focused on destroy the original TLoU story with his woke activism.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really enjoying where this be going. I look forward to every episode. They're all so full of character, drama, and just enough action and scares to keep me guessing. The little incel boys review-bombing is hilarious, as well. I'm loving the direction, and, while I didn't like her initially, Bella Ramsey is killing it. Perfect Ellie vibes. Let's not forget Pedro Pascal, who is also crushing the reluctant dad role, let's be real. The latest episode has people struggling to cope, and it's fun watching them seethe. Oh and Anna Torv is wonderful on-screen, as always. Anyway Mr. Druckmann is also excellent. The man behind the game also working as director on the series? Top-notch. This is how you do an adaptation. It's not exactly like it, but it's more like the game than anything else would have been. Expand

Druckmann seriously got his balls cut off and destroyed the good story that was TLOU1. Did Anita Sarkesian write you a letter this time around too?
I dont even dare buying the remake of TLOU on PS5 either. Pretty sure he crammed in some gay fisting scenes in there all together with a pride parade. Screw this s**t

If anything it was an extended trailer for the video game. A playthru of the video game is much better viewing by the way. This series could easily have been very successful by coming up with an alternative plot. I suspect that hiring the game designers as the writers was a mistake - the material needed a fresh approach. So I think in summary that is where this series came unstuck - it would be too much like hard work doing a good job and a lot easier to just produce a few low cost promos to boost video game sales, strung together posing as a tv series. As a huge fan of The Last of Us Part 1, I had high expectations for this show, and most, if not all, were met. First and foremost, Pedro Pascal(Joel) and Bella Ramsey(Ellie) are phenomenal. And I can't wait to see their relationship grow throughout the series. To all the people who disagree with the race swap, deal with it, because right now, it has no effect on how that character acts. There are a few minor issues with the editing choices, and with one particular scene where a reveal happens and there isn't a lot of reaction to that reveal. But other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, and I can't wait to see more.

The formula has always been simple but apparently was overlooked by anyone ever adapting a video game. The formula? Stick to the heart of the story...and add depth. I don't know who these people are who desire a shot-by-shot, play-by-play of the game...but that isn't me, and I don't think it is the majority of people. What's the point? The game is already so good, why would you need a live-action version that is the same? They expanded on the world they had already built. Now...I'm going to say something that I find incredibly irritating, and it's about the fan base, which unfortunately includes a lot of ignorant, hateful, incredibly homophobic bigots who have nothing better to do than hate something because they've been taught to hate something and make sure that everyone knows they should hate it too. The fact that the homosexual tones of a specific character were overlooked in the game by many people, says a lot. And now the internet is flooded with a bunch of morons screaming they hate the show, they ruined it, they are pushing the LGBT agenda (there is no agenda...we just happen to exist...I don't know why that is so challenging to understand). Think about the reverse...what if someone said, "they have a straight relationship in this? No. I will not watch. Gross." Get over it please, you're missing out on a wonderful story and you clearly missed out on the actual heartline of the entire story of The Last of Us, which is about the heart...and love...not shoot em up bang bang kill violence. Please grow up. The show is a masterpiece so far. Expand

I'm turned off by political allegory and absolutely allergic to woke allegory in media. So believe me when I say that if you are seeing woke allegory in this show you may want to check and make sure you're not the brainwashed one. This show features excellent storytelling, excellent character driven narratives, it remains wholly devoted to it's internal logics. In short, it's not woke propaganda, its genuinely good storytelling. The writers may not share your values but they are trying to entertain you first. There aren't any MEANINGFUL identity swaps or bait and switches (as of episode 3). A family in Boston can believably be of any mix of races. This isn't middle earth. It's 1995 or whatever Boston. It doesn't matter if his wife was White or Asian or Black. The white characters and male characters aren't all bad here. Men are physically stronger than women in this show. The girl lead does a fantastic job and looks like a real person. She's not "ugly" at all she's talented as hell - especially for a young actor. I'm not seeing woke allegory. What I'm seeing here, in the negs, is people who are oversensitive (understandably) about being preached too by leftist virtue signaling.

Please let's agree that this show is how leftist writers SHOULD be writing. They're going to be left leaning, inclusive etc. But this team is putting the story first second and third . Whether you agree with their views we should be able to agree that great art is great art. Episode 3 WAS excellent by any sane measure. If you don't see that then I'm afraid you may have become woke's opposite evil. Why was it bad? If you think it was bad simply because the characters were gay then you are in the wrong. Woke views are bad when they lead to woke allegory which is bad WHEN ITS BAD - whenever it comes before storytelling. It doesn't here. There's no preaching. Nobody marginalizes victimizes or shames the men. There's no warping of reality or history to magnify their repression. They could be a straight couple just as easily and the episode would have worked fine. So the hate just grinds me a bit. I'm usually on the skeptical side but this was great work and top tier entertainment. The only thing keeping this show from being a ten is that zombie stuff feels tired. Even if it's caused by mushrooms. Otherwise perfect show.

He looked the part, ruggedly handsome, great beard...when Pedro Pascal was cast, I thought okay. We'll see. After the first episode, Pascal OWNS the role. He brings a world-weary soul to the character (it's in his eyes). Bella Ramsey is introduced as Ellie, and she shines in her brief scenes. The first episode cleverly explains the fungal "virus " and how it would affect the host via a old televised science talk show (with John Hannah and Bighead from Silicon Valley). We're then introduced to Joel and his family on what would be the last day of normalcy. Scenes mirror and mimic the dialogue of the game, but since the game was so cinematic to begin with, it all fits naturally. BTW, for those shouting WOKE because of casting decisions or complaining about Bill and Frank's relationship (hinted at in the game, but altered and fleshed out), need to grow the eff up. Expand

The show is a colossal bore with so much ham-fisted virtue signalling it's distracting. Anyone who scores this more than a 5 has either never seen a decent HBO show before or worships on the altar of Druckmann.

First the race swapping, I can take. But then when they decided to make Billy, a conservative doomsday prepper misanthrope into a gay guy who kisses and has relations with the first strange weird dude to end up at his doorstep, I turned it off and I won't be watching it anymore.

Another distortion of the source material to benefit your ideology once again. **** this show.

Are you serious guys? Did you last exactly two episodes before you screwed up?
Of course, I will add 2 points to zero, for a touching story. But what does this have to do with the main story of the series? What is this episode for? Did he reveal something new to us in the post-apocalyptic world? Maybe retelling part of the story of the original? What the hell is a whole series dedicated to the agenda? In the original, this theme is played in an interesting and even funny way, the characters of the original demonstrate survival skills and fight. I understand that the authors promised us to tell something new and more. And where is it all???

But Series 3 is just a disgusting unnecessary non-canonical liberal agenda that no one asked for. It has been a long time for everyone to understand and understand that any minorities are obviously in a losing position against the other mass side and it is impossible to sit on two chairs at once. There is a great HBO series - Chernobyl and there are no minorities and various other signs of mass dementia, apparently fear of the Russians has done its job. The evaluation is solely due to the 3 series, even if there is nothing like this in the future, the desire to watch the series has disappeared. Thanks for your attention!
P.S. Regarding the spoilers, I did not note that they exist, because I think everyone already knows this oversight.

you might enjoy it more if you haven't played the games but I doubt it will be something you remember.

Other than Sarah's skin color I feel they got all the important stuff right so far. Sarah still seemed very much like the original Sarah so it didn't bother me much. Excellent casting choices so far. 10/10 for episode 1. Will update as new episodes come in.

Update after episode 3: Episode 2 was awesome and I think I liked it even more than the first episode, 10/10. Unfortunately episode 3 was a real stinker. If I wanted to watch a gay romance I would watch one. I thought I was watching a post apocalyptic survival show based on the video game. The only scenes in episode 3 that I enjoyed were the ones without Bill in it. If I weren't a big fan of the game I would've not been able to finish this episode. I support gays and lesbians I just have no interest in watching them. If I were watching a pop music show I'd be upset if all of a sudden an episode shows up that is mostly about rap. I'm so upset and I can't give this garbage episode anything more than a 1/10. That brings down my average score for this show to a 70. I still have hope the rest of the show will be good, keep Bill away please.

update after ep 4: The show fortunately went back on track. This one felt very short but it's my favorite so far we get a lot of great quality time between Joel and Ellie. An interesting villain appears and I hope we learn more about her in the next episode and how she got into her position. Something scary happens at the end but I can't spoil it, excited for the next episode. 10/10

update after episode 5: Incredible episode easily the best one so far in my opinion. There were a few minor changes but I actually like how the show did it better than the game. 10/10
