Great show far. A little lackluster in the latest episode. But only due to change in story from the game. And quite a small amount of action or any of the infected.

Its an OK show at best. Felt like it was made only for the players, and I didn't appreciate that. Pascal is a monster of an actor, and Bella Ramsey does the job, but she's far from the genious people try to make me believe.

The show focuses more on the danger of human corruption than hordes of infected that you fight off in the game. The cinematography, acting, music, directing, and screenplay are all excellent and seeing a video game adaptation have this much quality is refreshing since other video game adaptations have been rather bad until now. Where the show falters is the pacing from episode to episode and the overall writing for the season. It starts out strong but eventually things start to feel rushed and ultimately leaves you unsatisfied with how quickly everything gets wrapped up. Also, I don’t mind a zombie, or for the show's sake a “infected” tv show to not have infected as the main focus, but I feel that they went too far with this idea, and it made infected feel nonexistent, and the world feel empty and safe. I tried being as unbiased as possible to the show since I have played the game, but I can’t hide the fact that I was very disappointed the longer the show went on. I loved the beginning and I thought we were about to have one of the best shows ever, oh how I was wrong. I don’t mind changes to the story to better adapt to tv, that’s understandable, but this show easily could have been 11-13 episodes long and it would have been perfect. The farther along we got the more was cut from the story and the more infected fights were left out. In the game the final mission was emotional and tense where the final episode for the show felt dry and quick. I couldn’t believe how fast they rushed everything and even cut things out that was in the game at the end. This ruined the experience for me especially since they started out so well. Why wouldn’t you just stay as close as possible to the original story, it doesn’t make sense. Now my average is an 8, but since I have played the game and saw the potential of what this could have been I have to give it a 7. That rushed last episode really bothers me and it’s more disappointing than anything especially since the first episode hit me hard emotionally just as the beginning of the game did, so that made me excited to watch this great story be portrayed on tv and for me to watch that amazing ending unfold but unfortunately the show couldn’t deliver in the end. In my opinion this is still the best video game adaptation and I still like a lot that this show has to offer, and I am excited for the next season. Expand

I thing is doing amazing job trying to recreate the game in real life so if you not play the game at all and watch the tv show instead stop with the writing, play the game then you might actually get what the TV show is or a bat

Good so far, well acting and a gorgeous scenery. They changed a few things compared to the game, mostly less interacting with the zombies (probably has to be done, because another obstacle every 5 minutes works for a game but not a TV show) and expanded the stories for a few side characters. Although I have to agree the series is much slower than anticipated and to cover the side stories to such a great extent was also a suprise. In parts a bit too boring, but writers choice is understandable. But the tone is always right, it manages to catch good and obvious bad events that can happen in a apocalypse.
However, what really is funny are the reviewers on this side giving the show a zero rating because they don't know that there are gay characters in this show. I mean, they claim to have played the game, and these characters are gay there too. It really is interesting to see how many people don't know the basic story of the game or are just that unobservant while playing. Nothing could be funnier than seeing these people complain about woke agenda and wrongfully claiming these characters are straight in-game. FYI, the first part has a DLC, try to play it. And yes, it was more subtle in the game, but regarding sex and blood HBO has not the reputation to be subtle. And complaining about the ethnicity of a character when this just doesn't matter for its storyline, this is also ludricous, especially when it reflects modern society better this way. You should give this show a try. Knowing the story of the game hasn't ruined it for me, although it is very predictable because of it. When you like the show, it is also probably worth it to try out the game, since its tone and story development is quite different, but both products do it well enough.

This show is a f*ckin masterpiece. Period.

And trust me when I say that I rarely use the term "masterpiece" so as to maintain its significance.

To some, this may seem a bit boring and excessive at times but that would only be the case for those, who expect nothing more from a horror show except for action, zombies, shooting and things like that.
Yes, if you are expecting continuous intense action sequences, savage moments, cold blooded dialogues and things like that, I am sorry to say that this show is not for you and you are bound to be disappointed with it.

Now that we have cleared the negative immature audience out of the scenario, let's talk about the actual show and how perfect it really is.

To me, this show is a love story, the love story of two best friends, the love story of a father and a daughter, the love story of humans with themselves.
But also, at the same time, to me, this show is an eye-opener too. It acknowledges the misconceptions, the dark side, the hate, the agony, the real emotions of humanity and the extent of inhumanity people are willing to go to when it comes to themselves. To me, this is a story of ignorance, stupidity, selfishness and demonism.
To me, this is a show about every emotion that humanity has ever experienced and will experience. To me, this show is a story of everything.

So, any other person out there like me, who is willing to take out some time, think about what's really happening, appreciate the depth of the show and is patient enough to enjoy the actual beauty of this show, this show is a f*ckin masterpiece.

Trust me when I say that this is not just a show. This is a once in a lifetime experience, which you'll definitely never forget for the rest of your lives. This show is gonna be engraved in your minds like it has been in mine for more than 7 years.

This show will teach you dozens of things, make you feel emotions you never felt before and clear many misconceptions of yours about how the society really works.
But all this works only if you are patient enough. So, if you've got patience, this is and always will be A F*CKIN MASTERPIECE.

So I wasn't remotely surprised when a TV show adaptation was announced. I was worried as video game adaptions tend to be fairly poor for the most part. Does The Last of Us HBO show fall into the video game adaption curse or does it survive by being a good adaption?

One of the most important elements of adapting a video game is retaining all the core elements that made the game great. In terms of this, the HBO show is successful. The main core of the plot, the characters, the relationship, and the tone are all in this adaptation. The show does make changes from the game but I find the changes to be mostly good. For example, deeper meaning for Joel leaving QZ, exploration of Bill and Frank's backstory, Sam and Henry's plot, and Tommy and Joel's relationship. A lot of the changes give more depth to the characters and the worldbuilding. The set design is terrific and captures the exact feeling of the games. The makeup and design of the infected are creepy as they should be. Every scene with the infected is exciting with the memorable mansion scene being an awesome watch.

In terms of casting, Pedro Pascal is great as Joel. He retains the hardened, spiteful nature of Joel from the games but there are some differences. There is a lot of subtle warmth and vulnerability in his performance which leads to an emotional scene in episode 6 that isn't in the games but has a lot of impact. I was sceptical about Bella Ramsay as Ellie at first. Ellie in the game comes off as naturally witty and sarcastic but Bella's performance can feel a bit forced. It didn't help that her character is written as way more hostile compared to the game. However, I warmed up to her a lot by the end as Bella delivers on the more emotional and heart-warming scenes. Some of the best moments in the show are the quiet moments between Joel and Ellie which is thanks to the great chemistry between Pedro and Bella. The supporting cast does a great job as well with special praise to Nick Offerman as Bill, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Anna Torv as Tess, Merle Dandridge as Marlene and Gabriel Luna as Tommy. The biggest surprise in the supporting cast was seeing the original Joel and Ellie voice actors in substantial supporting roles as new characters where they show how great of an actor, they both are.

Nonetheless, I do have some gripes with this show and one of them is the lack of infected; especially in the second half. For a world that has supposedly been taken by this virus, we don’t get enough scenes with the infected. It gets jarringly obvious in the second half where I wondered if they just ran out of budget. In the game, there is a fair amount of downtime between Joel and Ellie after combat. The show doesn’t have a lot of these downtime scenes and because of that the relationship between the two doesn’t feel as strong and believable. It also disappoints me how rushed the finale was as it was incredibly short with a lot happening. It felt like the show needed an episode where it was just Joel and Ellie spending time together which would’ve made the finale has more impact. Episode 3 is no doubt one of the more memorable and hopeful episode in this show that is mostly doom and gloom. However, this episode feels like filler in the overall scheme of things. I had a similar issue with episode 7 which was just one entire flashback that was very slow-paced and dragged on for too long. Both of these episodes lacked our main characters interacting which is what this show needed more of.

Overall, this is a good adaptation of the video game. It’s not perfect but it does manage to convey the necessary story elements effectively in a TV show format. As someone who has family members who aren’t as into video games as me; this TV show is a great way to allow them to experience the story as well. I’m interested to see season 2 of the show. Whether they adapt the sequel or go in a new direction, I’ll be there to watch.

The Last of Us is by far my favourite video
game franchise of all time, I’ve put around 1000 hours into TLoU games, and I’ve beat TLoU1 over 30 times and TLoU2 11 times so far. I have been excited for this adaptation since the day it was announced on March 5th, 2020, and being such a huge fan of the games I had very high expectations for this show, and it exceeded all my expectations. The Last of Us HBO is definitely the best video game adaptation of all time, and not just that, but it is also one of the best TV shows of all time. It has become my favourite Tv show of all time and I love it just as much as the games. The writing, casting, visual effects, music, acting, directing, environments, and everything is perfect. In my opinion Craig Mazin is the best writer in TV and Neil Druckmann is the best writer in video games, and together they made something truly remarkable. It captures the essence and feel of the game, while expanding upon the lore and making the story even richer. Pedro Pascal is the perfect live action Joel, and Bella Ramsey is the perfect live action Ellie, everyone in this series is perfectly cast. I love how they had some of the original actors from the games in the series as well. I’d recommend this series to literally everyone, if you’re a fan of the games you should watch this as it’s an amazing adaptation that will let you experience Joel and Ellie’s journey in a new way, and if you’ve never played the game that’s not a problem at all as this show is welcoming to newcomers with no knowledge of the games as well. Looking forward to a new episode of TLoU was the highlight of my week for 9 weeks, I’m sad that season 1 is over, but I will continue to rematch all the amazing episodes over and over again, I can’t wait for season 2! 10/10

Why are they making a series based on a play that most people already know by heart. I didn't see much of a reason. After all, I've played the first episode of The Last of Us more than once, so the story doesn't surprise me anymore, and more importantly, this isn't a game anymore, so I can't even be entertained by the gameplay. On the one hand though, I'm quite pleased with the finale, because at least there was something extra at times that wasn't in the game, so there's a little something new, but otherwise it's mostly the same. It's hard to say what I think of this series. I'll start with the good stuff. It was really nice to watch. The camera angles, the environmental shots. Nice. I also liked the casting of Joel as Pedro Pascal. Bella Ramsey was cool too, just not as similar in appearance to the cast, but what can you do. Now I'll move on to the worst part, and for me that was the 3rd episode about Bill, which I didn't enjoy and take as unnecessary. Well, the rest of it was great. So I'll just reiterate that it's something I've already experienced in the game and I don't see any reason to show it again especially after the PS5 remake came out, where the graphics are already so hilarious that you get just that movie feel in the cut-scenes. I personally would only recommend The Last of Us series to those who haven't played the game. If you've already played the game, then I don't see it from my perspective to watch the series, which while it showed something new here and there, for me, nothing worth the investment of a few hours of watching. Still, since it was nice to watch and was well made in my opinion, I enjoyed it and thought it was great. However, I repeat that I still don't really see the point in making this series. I could have done without it. I only recommend it to those who haven't played the game. Expand

Good, but not great interpretation of the source material.

On the upside, it sticks pretty close to the source material and focuses mainly on Joel and Ellie's realtionship.

On the downside, there are a lot of minor flaws that hamper the overall impact of the show. None is huge in itself, but together, they do deduct from the overall experience. If I'd point our one thing, is that the 9 episodes (and only really 6) weren't quite enough to flesh out Elli and Joel's relationship. It needed a tighter script to really make it work. The game has you spend roughly 20 hours together, while the show barely makes it 5.

I'm a big fan of the Last of Us games, I've played Part I, Left Behind and Part II. In my opinion, these belong to the best stories ever told in video games, next to Life Is Strange and God of War. The adaption is very faithful, it follows the games in a good way and tells a few side stories apart from the games. They changed the whole story of Frank and Bill, but the core stays the same, and I'm pretty sure, it fits better in a TV-format this way. The CGI and practical effects are extraordinary, and they are looking great. The production value is just astounding. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are amazing as well. I liked them already in Game of Thrones, but this… Wow. My only problem with the show is the pacing. The most dialogues are very well written, but they are just too long. There are a action sequences, but a few more would have been great. I think the amount of infected was kinda small, and I hope they change this in Season 2. But overall this was one of the greatest video game adaption I've ever seen, next to the Cuphead Show and Cyberpunk Edgerunners. I'm looking forward to Season 2. Expand

Somehow this dystopian, traumatic story which keeps you tense and on edge manages to also be a cosy enjoyable watch?! Credit to the chemistry between Bella and Pedro in achieving that. Okay it's a tad video gamey at points and is almost too respectful of its source material but this was mainly an issue in the first couple episodes - after that point it feels legitimate as its own series and perhaps even exceeds its origins. I originally gave it like a 9.5/10 when it came out. One of the best stories told and executed that I've seen in a game since Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, on ps2, my previous favorite game. (I was a 90's kid, so I go back to ps1 and ps2 for my fav games, yikes I'm **** old.. ..lol). Thought this show does a whole lot of the original game justice, (mostly). 2nd, let's address "the Pink elephant in the room". The lack of action without Runners, Stalkers and Clickers, not being apart of the danger throughout Joel & Ellie's traversing across the U.S. in the show. This was an early decision that Masion and Druckman clearly made, in hind sight now I see looking back. That IS disappointing. That being said, the writing, acting and production design are remarkably well done. I would say excellent mostly. Pascal Inhabits the soul and body of Joel very, very well. I would even say this interpretation and version of Joel, while at first glance may seem tame or soft, is actually far far- more haunted, disturbed and therefore compelling. I learned along time ago that when you write/create a story you want to tell, that the story is never in service of the characters, but that the characters are there to always serve the story. Ellie, portrayed by Bella Ramsey, I'll admit initially, she didn't look like her and I thought she was too angry and overly reaching with her aggression early on in the show, even though I know she had serious trust issues since everyone dies or abandons her, I get it.. But then I watched Episode 5.. The end of that..Oooof. Hold'n back some man fuk'n tears there with Henry and Sam.. btw those two actors..Perfect performances as brothers. Chef's kiss*. Extremely powerful. And I saw what Bella did acting-wise in that episode and I was like, "Yep she's earned my respect now with that acting!" The writing is top notch. Places re created were shot on real locations for a lot of the show. Of course the composer from the games came and was hired on for the music for the show as well, which was great. I'll stop here, but like I said, this I felt might be the best adapted show from a game to date. And let's face it, HBO always brings that HBO quality, even if you disagree with some of the decisions they made. For me, I am very Impressed and mostly pleased minus the lack of clickers - I'm only grading this show based on what they put into the adaptation, not what was left out. So for that reason it is a 9/10. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Why do people complain about The last of us. Simple modern television has become pretty cookie cutter it tells a story with love, but people look to love and love by its definition has become very fresh with gay love becoming a staple to satisfy youth and the media. Now my opinion is the last of us hits the nail on the head and satisfies the June 14, 2013 game release. Pedro Pascal nails a new version of Joel flat at times and Bella Ramsey is elegant. I think some of the show's minor issues are the fact that it feels like it needs to soar to a place instead of let it sit, and in some moments it does that, but near the end of the show in its final episode setting up that sequence of the game we see Joel mindlessly shoot through an entire hospital the change being they all die. In the game Joel runs out of the hospital with a knocked out Ellie as he is chased by the fireflies this time he just walks like The Winter Solider and slaughters them all. I feel like this scene could've worked with a bit more time in just the whole episode it could've been only 54 minutes, and I would've enjoyed it either way. Bella Ramsey was hated the moment they saw her face, and I never doubted for a second that someone who looks different than a video adaptation could play almost the same character as played masterfully by Ashley Johnson. The Last Of Us suffers from a short run time ending which sinks a bit of my enjoyment, but its amazing supporting and lead cast satisfy the need for judgment. 8.3/10 is what I give this show and I find the wait for part II's adaptation all the more exciting Expand

Yes, at the beginning I had some complaints about the casting, but over time you get used to these actors, and it's an adaptation, not a casting. The series tells some moments in different ways, sometimes in favor, sometimes not, but it's not bad, on the contrary, it makes it more interesting. All the episodes (except the third one) are just great, I watched them in one breath. And as for the third episode...., well, it happens, the main thing is that it didn't hurt the other episodes of the series. In my opinion, this is the best adaptation of not only the game, but also the best adaptation of all adaptations of books, games, and other things. I recommend it to fans of the game of the same name, and those who have never heard of the game will like it even more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I should drop a 10 just to rebalance all the homofobic hate on episode 3, but i'll keep this honest and i'll drop my honest vote, a 9. Some changes and cuts were stupid and/or pointless, other changes and addings were good and very much on point, and overall the series is just great. As someone who played both games: episode1: making an airplane nearly kill sarah/joel/tommy was very...american? not needed, i guess it was a way to make a surprise to us gamers (with the car that was supposed to hit them stopping in time) but...that was too much. also, the first kill we see by joel was very tense and brutal in the game, in the series it was almost a comic thing (no gunshot, the infected first trips into the door and then get up very quickly because, i guess, jumpscare in 2023 are still a thing). meh.

episode 2: clickers were perfect, bonus points for showing tess's death since it was different than the game and it was very disgusting.

episode 3: ...i'm a straight guy and i've enjoyed SO much. Yes you don't have to be gay to enjoy a very good love story about...two persons. who cares if they are both men, both women, a man and a woman, an alien and a chair, if it's a good love story, it's still good even if it's not relatable episode 4: kinda boring but ok. episode 5: another amazing episode, after the third one. joel killing the sniper was not a random moment like in the game but a meaningful one, sam and henry were perfect and the bloater was super good to see. episode 6: the one i hated the most, probably. i have no problem with black/asian washing usually,i didn't even care about sarah for example, but tommy and maria? c'mon. tommy is supposed to be at least the same ethnicity. also, i don't know if i'm happy to see a joel that is struggling with anxiety and depression. TloU (druckman) has its agenda and this, not episode 3, but this, felt very much like a way to make feel rapresent anyone, since in the game there was no character with mental health problems. It is realistic that joel struggle with those problems after the death of sarah and tess? Yes. It is true to the real joel, that was basically a tough and badass guy? No, sorry. Episode 7: should've been shorter, especially after i've saw episode 8 and 9, i thought this should've last only half an hour at best. the mortal kombat arcade scene in the game was way better. Episode 8: Almost perfect, amazing that they left cannibalism and pedophiles in a mainstream series like this one. The only complain i have is that joel path true the city felt rushed and the reunion with Ellie didn't felt like a miracle like it was in the game Episode 9: Almost perfect again, again is just a thing about timing, everything felt really really fast and the slow-mo scene of joel killing everyone was a bit cringy. But they didn't even change a single second of the last 5 minutes so...great. Waiting for season 2, which will probably have a 2.5 metacritic score due to all the lesbians/trans/genderfluid/etc stuff which stops little minded to people from enjoy a beatiful story.

It's the best show ever made based on a video game, period.

The first episode certainly set the bar high! The talk show segment was a great addition. It gives the viewers some more information about this world and the story we're about to watch unfold. I was quite skeptical when they announced a TV show adaptation. However, I must say that I’m extremely over the moon with how incredible everything has been from the get-go. The casting, acting, script, storyline and attention to detail is spot on. I immediately picked up on all the small things that were included from the game and it’s those minor things that make such a huge impact. The actors perfectly capture the essence of the video game characters and really bring back that sense of nostalgia as if playing the game for the first time all over again. The core strength of this show lies in the simplicity of the plot.Contrary to how it's made like the production design is one of the best. The details are mind-blowing.

The music is simple yet impactful. The pacing and the music just every thing. It's like the music producer feels the scene.

Well done to all involved in the production and thank you for making it so alike the game. This is what we wanted, and you all delivered I can't wait for the next Season!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you want the show to follow the games narrative to a tee, you'll be mildly disappointed. If you allow the writers to have some flexibility on a story that was told 10 years ago and enable them to tell their own story whilst faithfully following the source material then you'll love it.

It was bombarded with negative reviews for next to no reason (mostly due to Episode 3). If you're not close-minded or in my personal opinion, an idiot. You'll enjoy this episode. It's my favourite episode if I'm honest. It has nothing to do with it's LGBTQ themes or anything sexual in that sense. It's just a great episode with characters that are writen well. Int this one episode, I cared more about Bill and Frank than I did most of the other characters in the show.

It marred the show from the get go, and the main characters never really seemed to bond at all.

I knew when they announced it way back Ramsey got the job it wouldn't work and I was right. I know it and so does Druckmann and Mazin, it was a complete show wrecker.

Both the "directors" knew the crap storm would hurt Bella and should be ashamed of directly miscasting the main character with someone that looks or acts NOTHING like Ellie.

Mazin and Druckmann should have played Bill and Frank themselves tbtfh, don't get me wrong I loved that episode, which, wrongly became the highlight of the show.

Hardly any infected, the sho9w lost it's way from the original content. Sadly and I know there's a lot of faux love for the show yada yada. It was a flop.

Anyone but Bella Ramsey might have saved it, maybe Sadie Sink? She had everything you need for a good casting as the MAIN character!!!???

I hope Neil Druckmann concentrates on the third game, the show can only get worse unless they cast someone else as an older Ellie (LIKE SADIE SINK) the actress that played Joels daughter would have made a better Ellie.

I give this show 4/10, even with a better casting it only deserves an 8/10
- 2 for not having enough infected
- 4 for casting Bella Ramsey as Ellie which ruined the whole show.

It could've been a good ending, possibly great. Ellie might have been presented with the hard choice of sacrificing herself in order to maybe save the human race. I mean, she spent most of the first season risking her life to maybe save the human race, but in the end the people creating the show made the deliberate choice to give us the triumph of selfishness over heroism. They turned Ellie into a victim and made Joel appear like a monster who kills half the people trying to save the human race.

Oh, you might say, but Joel was trying to save Ellie. Sure, he probably saw it that way. But the problem is we the audience don't really know what's happening because we weren't shown what happened to Ellie while Joel was unconscious. Was she offered a choice? Was she treated like a lab rat with no rights? The most important plot point in the show and we'll never know the answer because the show runners either lacked the nerve to put it on screen or don't know the difference between good and evil. And based on what I saw on the screen the story ends with the human race doomed thanks in part to one man's evil.

There are other problems, too. Like the flashlight batteries still holding a charge 20 years after. Like the "survivalist" relying on gasoline and diesel fuel long after either would have degraded into garbage. Like the dam still supplying some people with electricity, because, you know, Jesus descended from the Heavens to ensure that the people with the technical background to keep a hydroelectric station running would still be on the job. Like the zombies. Not because it's fungus turning people into zombies. Because I read about fungus and bugs years ago so matching the fungus with people isn't that big of a leap. The problem here is that the zombies, on the rare occasions when we see them, look like something out of a Troma release. It doesn't matter if you start the film with scientists explaining that fungus zombies are a real possibility if the zombies you put on-screen look like some no-budget 1950s movie monster.

I give the series a 5 because it's watchable, and, frankly, the show runners deserve some cred for episode three, which is probably the best episode of all. Apologies to all the juvenile minds that just can't handle a little relationship diversity. Try growing up.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. They did an AMAZING job adapting The Last of Us to a tv series! I love how well Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay portray their characters! Their acting was really something special to see. One of my favourite parts of the game was the dialogue between the characters, and that translates incredibly well into the series. I only have a few problems with the show, such as the fact that they completely removed spores! I know why they did it, but it seems like kind of a missed opportunity. They're an environmental hazard and if Joel's mask breaks, he's going to turn. AND the original voice actors for Joel AND Ellie made an appearance in the show!!
I loved watching this again, and I'm going to play the game right after this, 9/10

Almost all of the characters are excellent as they add onto this cruel world and it really does add on to how it really does feel like "The Last of Us" with how broken everybody is and how they've essentially given up hope and with how relatable they are, we feel for them and want to see them find hope. I've seen people complain how there isn't enough action here but I would argue that would go AGAINST on what TLOU is even about as it's about a realistic setting with mentally dead people with no hope to live and putting a lot of action here would've caused people to miss the point of the IP and makes the show more GROUNDED (Kinda like the hardest difficulty setting in the games). People also argue with how little infected there is, it doesn't feel like a post-apocalyptic world but again, the reason this didn't bother me is because there's also how others don't believe in forgiveness, helping each other out, or just talking it out so it does feel like we live in a world that's borderline dead and I would also argue the limited amount of infected benefits the show because when they do show up, that's when your heartbeat ramps up and you get so scared that each individual encounter sticks with you. The soundtrack and performances given are so beautiful that I was left crying a few times when they did such a good job helping me care for these characters and then killed them off so suddenly. Overall, I'm so happy Neil made this TV show for new fans to experience The Last of Us and I can't wait to watch Season 2 but also worried people are gonna hate the show with people in the PS community tried to ruin The Last of Us Part 2 for others out of spite but it's certainly not gonna stop me from enjoying the show as someone who preferred the second game over the original.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Short version

The show is OK, not as good at storytelling as the game, and they change a lot of things for the worse, but it is still a decent story

Would I rewatch No, absolutely not

Do I recommend it for people that don't play videogames? Yes, absolutely

Do I recommend it for gamers that have finished the game? No, absolutely not, it is just not as good and will disappoint(and you can see that with the low user score it has, I never trust the pro reviews, they are paid for and have showed it more than once

The long TLDR version:

The acting is amazing, but that is what you get when you have Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey together

First, I love the opening with John Hannah, it was masterful(And I gotta say that seeing some stories from before the outbreak is awesome)

Now, the changes, I HATE when they change things that do not need changing... First, The location where it starts, it comes from south america(Ik, cordyceps is all over, but it is original from Asia) and they changed it to Indonesia, tbh at first I was mildly upset, but the way they handled that part was amazing, so ok

Second, Race swapping, and IK many will want to stop reading here, but please at least read until this paragraph ends; I dislike that media race swaps characters to "minorities"(I am mexican, like from Mexico City, and I and my paisanos, could not care less for "representation"... So why raceswap Sarah(blonde white girl) to a black girl, and Maria(Blonde white Slav looking woman) I mean, why then, did they not swap Henry to a white dude? Or Marlene to a redhaired?, please respect the sources!) and that is so common nowadays, and I hate it, THAT BEING SAID, the girl acted masterfully and I loved her as Sarah, and I am so looking forward to seeing more of her acting!

Third, changing parts of the story that make it make less sense! 3.1 Bill and Frank; there was no point on that, there is at least 1-2 hrs of gameplay with Bill, and it is awesome, he is such an interesting character, and his interactions with Joel made much of it, not having that and seeing his time with Frank, it just plain sucked, they could've elaborated more on him as a loner, his interactions with others, the reasons why Frank abandons him, but no, they had to destroy that character arc, especially, for example, with the way they meet, you see Henry's character then and there, and see that Ellie is starting to get through Joel, none of which happens in the show 3.2 All the story of Kansas(Henry's arc), that just made it worse, his character and story made so much more sense in the game, he is an older brother who will do whatever it takes to save his lil one, and it was so much more tragic to have the citizens led by psychos and killing innocent people, then Henry and Sam being caught on that and the only survivors of their group, the story as it is in the show makes much less sense and it is way less interesting 3.3 Making Sam deaf-mute; I mean, I know that you need to fill out inclusion quotas or you don't feel realized, but c'mon, there are multiple conversations that he and Ellie have in the game, how is that going to happen with a deaf mute? That was what made him so dear to us gamers in the first place! Here we only got that last written convo, taht is it, didn't make me feel the same connection as the way they banter in the game and they also broke his character when he tells Ellie about it, in the game Ellie's way of thinking stops Sam from telling her, the whole situation at the end still made me cry, but in general both Henry and Sam do not feel as fleshed out, and they miss the most important part, the most heartbreaking, that phrase "It is your fault, it is all your fault"... which is Henry's "on the brink" realization that it "is his fault" that he failed to protect Sam

The game was so heartbreaking because Joel was shut off from her, because he saw his daughter on her, so him opening up like he does in several parts makes their relationship towards the end less rewarding

Now, they add some of the snarky comments Ellie has, they add the jokebooks, but they do not follow Ellie's character arc, she is a strangely naive but rude and rebellious girl, but she pays attention to Joel, she does not do things behind his back or against his orders until after they are more comfy with each other, and it doesn't make sense in the show, she is supposed to be both amazed and terrified of everything, and that makes her follow Joel's orders, because she is super smart, and she says it several times, she knows that he knows what he is doing, and she looks up to him from the get go, so she doing all she does in the show at first makes 0 sense they just butchered all the characters

Now in general, most of the time they make Joel and Ellie look like the bad ones, when in the game it is the total opposite, and kind of don't make sense at all in the show

I was seriously enjoying the story about Joel's death and Ellie trying to avenge his death, and Ellie's romance on the side. It could have been one of the best games ever. Unfortunately, towards the end, I was forced to play as Abby. I really liked Joel as a character, and when Abby killed him, I, of course, developed a serious dislike for Abby. Furthermore, Abby is just a pissed-off, unlikable character in general. Thus, I really didn't want to play as Abby and found myself just letting zombies kill me because I wanted to return to playing as Ellie, and it was more enjoyable to watch her die than to try to help her survive. I tried to play it out as Abby, hoping it would return to Ellie at any moment, but hours went by, and it still made me play as Abby until eventually I just said, "Screw it. I'm not enjoying this game at all, and I stopped playing altogether. I've played almost every rpg there is, and there is only one other game I have stopped playing halfway through. Thus, Last of Us 2 is one of the only games I rate as a 0 out of 10 since it was so unenjoyable that I didn't even finish it. The lesson here is NEVER FORCE THE PLAYER TO PLAY AS AN UNLIKABLE ANTAGONSIST, PLEASE. After, being so disappointed with Part 2, I don't recommend either of these games. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, I have not played the game, and I really don't care if everyone is gay or straight or whatever as other reviews seem to be thorn on that. I totally understand if someone played the game and suddenly one of the characters from the game goes from straight to gay, or from a black person to a white person that it can be frustrating. But again, I did not play the game so everything was new to me.

The show is overall amazing, and I loved the ending. Shows nowadays usually go for the cliche ending or something predictable, but this one was different. It's neither happy nor sad, it felt like something that would truly happen (except when he singlehandedly killed everyone in that building). Overall interesting characters and most importantly GREAT pacing. Episodes didn't feel too short or too long, and I was always looking forward to Sundays. 10/10 since I wouldn't change anything, and can see why the game is so popular.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall it's a good video game adaptation but there are a lot of parts that could've been cut or replace by some actual content.

Episode 3 is a straight up unnecessary... They could've let Joel and bill go through hordes of clickers and runners (a bloater fight would be cool) like in the game.

and some questionable decision like making Sam deaf... why?

Eventhough, there were some flaws. This is quite a masterpiece. Some parts fits pretty well in the series and I actually enjoy watching it.

Some parts pissed me off but 7/10 still ok

Hi.

Could not get past the 3rd episode where it fell apart.

Until then it was OK, maybe even good. Then, they basically abandoned the original story in the 3rd episode, and made the whole episode about gay love. It would be OK if the original story was about gay love like in Brokeback Mountain, but it is not. The Last of Us is about a young girl and her guardian trying to survive in a world infested by zombie-like monsters and bad people while traveling to complete a mission.

You wanna make a series about gay love, by all means you have my blessings. You wanna distort a great game story by making a whole episode about gay love, which has nothing to do with the story, you have my low score.
