This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The mall sequence was a flash back to days the girls did not even know existed (which was cool). Watching them on merry go round with Just Like Heaven as background music was hynotically fun. Similar to episode 3 though, there was no plot advancement. I think a 50/50 split bw past and present would have given Ellie some background depth as well as shown what she had to do to take care of Joel. Similar to Episode 3, it told a good independent tale, but where is the payoff? Personally I'd rather see more of Bill and Ellie's current journey, then spend entire episodes exploring characters who just die. Expand

I fell asleep from boredom and saw it again when I got up. The truth is that this series does not even come close to the game. I give this chapter a 5 with full force.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The lack of action really spoils this for me. I enjoy the dialogue but it gets to a point that it's too excessive because it's not balanced with anything else (action, maybe?). The writers tried to pull off the 01 episode character bonding before doom comes, however, I don't think it was as effective as previous episodes. For instance, I watched the characters crying but I felt like playing the role of a careless spectator this time,i.e., not really empathizing with them. The salvation act of Ellie in the very end of this episode is absurd to the point that it's more unbelievable than the existence of a roaming humanoid fungus (Btw, they skipped how she actually managed to put Joe back on the horse. He looked pretty bad on the last episode. This time, he's not as pale and he could even be brought to a facility by a scrawny teenager. I know it's fiction, but the writers stretch and bend the story to fit when it wasn't necessary if they would've approached the storytelling a bit differently). My last negative on this episode is the fact they stopped investing in infected. You just needed one to look cool on this episode! The attack scene was too fast and kinda silly. The two bites weren't believable at all (I enjoy the stage tho, was getting a bit anxious, but when the infected came and boringly looked silly, my enjoyment of the action scene pretty much ran away hellbent). The positives of this episode are, of course, the music (sometimes I felt it the lack of music was bothersome), photography, nice references to pop culture and videogames (not as cool as other series such as stranger things tho). Anyhow... not a waste of time, but there are faster horses running this business race of tv shows lately. Expand
