He also writes a letterLoved the show, was actually very conservative and supportive of masculinity....the entire plot was about a guy with lots of guns in his doomsday bunker, who lived on his own until he met someone and fell in love. He also writes a letter where he writes of his longtime love, Frank, “I saved him. Then I protected him. That’s why men like you and me are here. We have a job to do.” (Sounds pretty masculine to me, regardless of sexual persuasion)

Thing is, that if this was a story about hetrosexual gun loving couple....all the people who have rated this episode 0 would be rating it a 10. Conservatives are the biggest snowflakes...they cannot even handle a fictional story about gun loving gays. Everyone who has rated this episode 0 based on the fact that it shows love between two men....is a weak-minded wimp, who would rather spew their toxic hatred towards the LGBT community then simply going about their lives in peace. Seriously – get a life, haters. And grow a pair.

The episode does a great job showing what is possible even in the worst of times. It shows an extreme contrast to the vile world Joel and Ellie are in. The letter at the end from Bill to Joel hits him hard because he’s already failed Tess, but now he has Ellie to protect. The review bombers are nothing but homophobic bigots that can’t recognize a great TV performance if it hit them in the a5$ Expand

Would any of you downvote this episode if Frank were a woman? Sadly, it would be farther from the game (yes they're a gay couple in the game already, pay attention, read the side notes) and worse as a story, since part of the drama was Bill accepting himself at first. Though I do not think it is necessary to show sex behavior on screen and it was a somewhat unconvincing fast developed relationship, but still, it just showed us two people were in love, and excellent adaptation of the original storyline, Frank turns out to be a kind and jolly fellow which connects Bill, Tess and Joel, makes the story more intense and believable. Great acting, almost cried when Joel saw Tess’ name on the letter. But I am gonna miss the “Ellie giving middle finger to Bill” scene… As I really do not think Neil as a good director, but if he was in charge of the script, it shows him has great talent in writing. It is a mystery why he fxxked up the part II game so bad…Anyway, amazing episode, keep the good work! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The progression of theirUnfortunately most of the negative reviews are entirely focused around the same-sex relationship between Bill and Frank, which is disappointing. Bill and Frank were a couple in the game, so that's nothing new. The progression of their relationship was different from the original material in the game. Neil Druckmann addressed this in the post-episode interview. He said that any video game to screen translation is going to require some deviation from the original video game material (story line coherency, pacing, etc.) He said they followed a simple rule when it came to deviations in "The Last of Us". If it improved the viewer's understanding of the story and the world the characters are living in, then they deviated. Otherwise, they stayed with the original material. Obviously, Neil felt that it was important to understand that the entire world isn't full of bloodthirsty murders, and lots of people are just trying to get by and be "human". You get that understanding while playing the game from all the various interactions, sub-plots, and notes you encounter while playing. They certainly don't have the ability to translate all of that to the screen in this series. So this is an alternative way to let the viewer have the same understanding of the world that the video game player already knows. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel bad for giving this episode the same grade I gave the first one, but this is a 10. This episode could be taken a part from the series and made into a short movie, easily. It’s sad seeing the scores being tainted by butthurt bigots, who minded seeing to queer man being loved and in love. Yes, it deviates from the game. But so has every episode up until now. This episode made me fall in love with a simple character we didn’t know much about, and fall deeper in love with a character we’re well accustomed to. I knew what it was coming and when it goes coming, yet, I was on the edge of my seat all throughout the episode. Not only did Neil and Craig give us a lovely love story, but it gave us a deeper inside of the world and Tess and Joel’s dynamic duo. It deepened the connection of those watching, with those acting. I am really happy it took this direction and that they’re nailing it. Thank you so much for this, Shannon Woodward :) Expand

The episode reveals in a person regardless of his preferences. Unfortunately, most people are devoid of empathy, which is the reason for this hatred of people different from them.

You can absolutely tell where the homophobes and hate-sub have been.
This was an oscar winning episode, yet gay people existing triggers a very pathetic portion of Earth's population.

Great episode, nice deviation from the original story. Love the way they portrayed the importance of relationships and not being alone, a glimpse of hope and love in a nihilistic and fractured world.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Outstanding episode! This paralel story brought by the writers of the series gives the show a necessary and great different view of the original game story (to which show is very faithful). So well explained and represented. Unfortunately I could see this review bombing happening from the very first moment. People doing that is only guided by hate, so sad. If Frank would have been a woman this would not be happening. Expand

I was on the edge of my seat nervous for the first half just waiting for the shoe to drop, and in tears the second. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Blown away how good this was. In the game the story of Bill and Frank is understated and told mostly through environmental storytelling, that works in a game but not on TV.

What’s so clever here is how they realise that and tell a better story that is more suited to a different medium. The acting was first class, and tears were shed. Brilliant, captivating television and a reminder that even those that have played the games can get a lot from this show. There were also so many easter eggs for fans, getting changed into their game outfits, line for line dialogue in places and, my absolute favourite, ending on the window which shadows back to the title screen of the first game. I’ll forever think of Bill and Frank when I see this now. They are building beautifully on what came before. It’s rare I give a 10 to anything but this was masterfully done.

Brillante. Aunque es más un spin-off de la serie para presentar a dos de sus personajes, tiene muy buen ritmo y la interpretación de los actores es sublime. El mejor episodio para mi gusto

In my opinion it was a smart move to change Bill's story from the game, they deepened his character a lot more and I'm glad Frank got a chance to make a proper introduction. This episode showed how to remain human in an inhuman world. I also tip my hat to the acting. Also, it tied the previous episodes together very nicely, showed how Joel and Tess' relationship with Bill and Frank developed and in the end it set Joel on the right path and gave him a purpose in life that he hasn't had for who knows how long.

Amazing, I was in tears. This show is so fantastic. It’s amazing to see representation in media that isn’t revolved around homophobia. It’s just two guys in love. Such a great relationship I’m obsessed. Rip

Murray Bartlett was superb as Frank and should be winning some awards during awards season.

Bill and Frank's development was fantastic, as is the acting behind it. I never expected to shed a tear, as Frank and Bill's story was largely skipped over in the game. But i did. A lot of tears. We learn about it through notes in the game, but here it gets to shine. Truly magnificent Television! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When playing the game, you come across so many story fragments and easter eggs throughout that are never explored in detail. So glad we are getting more than fragments.

This episode is a perfect example of the greatness of this story, Joel and Ellie truly are some of the last of "us". The corpses in the ditch are us. Bill and Frank are us. Tess is us.

I would so be dead if the world was infected, but damn, i hope i would leave a good story behind. *Chefs kiss* Cried like a baby.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I waited a week to review this episode. I wanted to replay this section of the game, and rewatch the episode so I could be fair.
Maybe my opinion is colored by personal experience, but I like this story so much better than just another hate filled body hanging from a rafter. Yes, it is a departure from the source material. From "Can I ha..." "No", to "seatbelt" it only progresses the story a little. It provides a bit of context for the relationship between Joel and Ellie, shows how they begin their actual journey, though not much else. But it is truly an amazing story. It is beautiful, and exciting. It is relatable and captivating. And, finally, it is soul wrenching.
This is honestly the most beautiful one hour and fifteen minutes of TV I have watched in over forty years of life. Please don't allow the biases which have been beaten into your skull to ruin it for you. Don't allow your love for the game to overrule the beauty of storytelling.
