What you will certainly see is how finely tuned both the marital observations and comic timing are.... This summer's must-see comedy smash.

Gaffigan is a master of self-deprecation, and the jokes here, at his expense, come fast and furious. The banter between Gaffigan and the supporting characters is extremely well orchestrated.

What helps bring The Jim Gaffigan Show up to another level are its eponymous star and the cast he’s chosen to surround himself with. Gaffigan takes his own self-deprecation to absolute artistic heights.

It gets better with each episode--and it’s not as though Wednesday night’s premiere isn’t very funny.

He tweaks both his nice-guy image and the family-sitcom formula just enough to make his show feel new--yet he retains the sense of familiarity that beckons viewers and keeps them watching.

As this glutton for self-punishment bumbles through bizarre misadventures, celebrity cameos by the likes of Chris Rock and Jon Stewart remind us that Gaffigan is more a player than a loser. His show's definitely a winner. [13-26 Jul 2015, p.12]

The Jim Gaffigan Show showcases its star at his exasperated best, putting his now well-honed spin on the befuddled dad genre from which many a sitcom has supped.

The Jim Gaffigan Show is a likable and good one--and it gets livelier and more confident as it goes along. It isn’t trying to knock you out by reinventing the form.

Like its affable leading man, the series is an overall genial affair.

Lots of amusing cameos add to the fun.... Mr. Gaffigan may not be the greatest actor, but he has a genial charm, which is the first prerequisite to making a show like this work.

Mostly his adventuress result in stray one-liners and stilted semi-riffs. Imagine a less nourishing Louie or Curb Your Enthusiasm, full of empty calories. [24 Jul 2015, p.54]

Gaffigan plays a tubby man-child version of himself, and in the classic TV marriage cliche (see “King of Queens,” “According to Jim”), he just happens to be married to an insanely hot woman (Ashley Williams, “How I Met Your Mother”) who is loving and supportive beyond rational means. But Gaffigan has ambition.

The Jim Gaffigan Show isn't cutting edge or hilarious. It doesn't make us cringe in embarrassment. It's just cute, and sometimes, that's enjoyable enough.

The writers even took a segment from a previous tv commercial and incorporated it into the show. I can't see how people think this is a good comedy. I love comedies and this is sad. His commercials begging people to watch the show are so pathetic. I never saw him as a stand up comic. It seems people love his comedy in those performances. He may be a good comedian, but is just a lousy actor. The other cast members are just as bad as him. I think TV Land is grasping at straws here. Let it go!!! CBS did the right thing by passing on this show. Full Review »

Opening line of the show is the first joke of his latest stand up show. If you have seen his latest painful comedy show all about kids and wife, the show is a stereo typical sitcom effort. The casting is bad. Nothing about this is plausible. Its contrived garbage. Not even close to the funny of his old material. Lazy predictable family comedy. The weak attempt to copy Seinfeld between each scene or location just shows how desperate the whole project is. Full Review »
