When good writing, acting and effects come together, you get a show like this.

The big name Sci-fi shows and films of yesteryear have been sold out and ruined. This gets back to the core. Good story telling. Characters that feel real, whoWhen good writing, acting and effects come together, you get a show like this.

The big name Sci-fi shows and films of yesteryear have been sold out and ruined. This gets back to the core. Good story telling. Characters that feel real, who are flawed but actually try. Drama is not manufactured like a clique of 14 year old girls like some things have been in the past(looking at YOU stargate universe).

Everyone has goals, and things aren't perfectly clear. I often went back and forth between liking and disliking some characters. That is hard to do.

There are moments where sometimes the show can get frustrated as many plot lines get inched along. However once enough of them converge the pace picks right back up.

At it's core this show is actually about the fate of humanity, with a focus on the reality that everyone really just wants to live their own life, focus on it, and cherish and hopefully grow something resembling a meaningful and happy life. Some people are looking for purpose, others redemption, a lost loved one, or to heal. Others are motivated by ambition, avarice and the future, with grandiose ideas that lead them astray for the greater good. It is so enthralling.

This is a must watch for any fan of science fiction.… Expand

If you like sci-fi then you will probably like this show. The production is excellent. SyFy channel dropped the show after season 3, but Amazon picked it up after a lot of fan support.

One of the most realistic sci-fi series ever made.

Worth watching even just to see that you don't need time-travel, artificial gravity and lasers for a good story.

This is by far one of the most memorable and well made Sci- Fi shows out there. I would recommend watching it to anyone. The CGI and the Actors are amazing, the setting interesting, the plot, while at times a bit "unrealistic", is also alright.

It's the best sci-fi series. It's even better than classic battlestar galactica series which was my favourite for a long time. The details in this are exceptional. I recommend this to everyone who loves a good sci-fi.

I really enjoy this series and was glad that Amazon saw the potential to keep it going. They do more then any series before it to stick to the real world physics of being in space while still keeping the science fiction interesting. The world building takes some time and the political sides can take a bit of time to weed through, but it was excellently cast and subsequently very well acted. OK, this used to be a great space sci-fi show but season 4 is absolute hot garbage. They spend 10% of the time in space/ships and the rest of the the show thus far (up to episode 3) is a crime drama set on earth/mars solving irrelevant mysteries, connecting with family we don't care about, and watching very terrible forced drama for characters with bad acting. Season 4 is exceedingly boring and looks like it's on a downward trajectory. The good news is that the show has far exceeded their diversity quota with 90% of the cast now Black and/or female so that pretty much makes up for the piss poor writing and space battles. The white males on the show except 1 are pretty much villans or a-holes so we've gone with the full StarWars final trilogy/Star Trek: Discovery formula here.… Expand

The best "hard" scifi shows ever made. The Belters are a faction that I love and totally relate too. The writing is great and so is the acting. I love season 2 but season 4 is also amazing! I can't wait for season 5!

Not many sci-fi tv-series are this good, and season 4 cemented the quality even more. Actors upped their game and it feels that Amazon did put heir budget into good hands.

Flawless pacing and plot for season 4. So glad Amazon decided to pick the show up before it was forgotten forever. This is sci-fy at its finest. Honestly i was a little discourage at first because there is a bunch of things (also politicals) to digest, but it was worth it!! It was since Battlestar Galactica that i was waiting for something like this!

What a masters series people. Rich, diverse, solid and highly entertaining. It captured me from the first episode to the last and left me longing for more. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. THIS is good Sci-Fi. Overall, outstanding development and delivery, and (so far) a very open ended story with a universe of potential. A few bumpy moments here and there that may leave you impersonating the RCA puppy, but they never last, and (usually) make sense later on (or on a re-watch).

My one point draw down was for an agreement with another opinion on a certain female characters development track, which I felt took a slight detour through a slum bar on hobo pirate night. If we can avoid that nav system in the future and get his character back on track, you just might earn back that point.… Expand

it's hard to find a better adaptation of a series of books. The characters are gritty, they have a relatable arc, are very well constructed and outside of minor quirks, it's a fantastic production.

Basically, the whole thing is epic and, weirdly, you can kind of envisage that the future will probably look something like this. The Metacritic score is weirdly harsh. It’s my favourite show of all time for its great and consistent writing and world building . Seasons 1-season 4 had arguably the greatest script and sci fi mystery in any sci fi show or movie I’ve seen. Puts modern Star Wars and a lot of modern movies to shame . That season 1 mystery had me hooked, so many moving pieces , changing scenarios and conflicts. And literally every individual plot is connected by the overall big umystery.I rewatched seasons 1-4 like 7 times , and it still feels fresh every time I rewatch it, no other show aside from game of thrones and breaking bad had that effect on me.
I recommend learning the factions before watching the show as I was confused on who was who my first time watching. OPA,earth and Mars plus the overall belt. One negative is that the end of season 5 there is a dip in writing quality a little it felt like the writers went tunnel vision with the script , the plot partially took a hit. The story got so small scale , it lacked the bigger picture. Season 6 the finals season, got better even though it was a shortened season.… Expand

The overall universe and its plot is consistently thought through as well. From a realistical and quantum-physical perspective, I think this is as realistic as a Sci-Fi universe can get. The factions have so much depth as well, and the viewer can connect to the whole dynamic and the motivations of each party. Storytelling methods aren't special per se. The sub conflicts among the factions in the contrast of the overall challenges that humanity faces make this story so compelling. It really feels like a role-playing game and that the end result is inevitable. What makes this show so special is the investment of the whole crew and the book writers. The actors understand their characters and roles. They also managed to keep their high quality throughout the whole series, unlike GoT. It's like a modern equivalent of BSG that plays in our own universe.… Expand

Huge fan of the books and the series continues to track fairly closely to the original stories' narrative and themes. Where they vary, the changes are (almost uniquely in book->tv development) generally strengthen the storyline.

Strong characters and clear narrative progression of the story, coupled with unbelievably high production values make this a not-to-be missed viewing experience for any sci-fi (and most drama) fan.
The show demonstrates that 'hard science' fiction (that is 'realistic', science-based fiction) has a good audience when done well. Most science fiction that makes it into TV production relies completely on the drama and tension between characters, often at the expense of the science fiction elements themselves and so are more correctly considered as 'drama of the week in space'. In The Expanse series, space itself is almost another character in the story, even to the point of allowing story development to slow at times(mostly successfully)due to the issues with communication, travel and distances involved.… Expand

I’ve watched the whole series every time a new season comes out. The writing is superb and the character development is well done. The special effects are also so well done. It’s a must-see if you love sci-fi that’s done well.

I know I'm late to the game but lord, this is a good show. Season 1 took some adjusting to the characters and story line. A lot to absorb but Seasons after that are just fantastic.

The Expanse is one of those rare instances of a show that does sci-fi well while also allow its characters to feel real people and not cookie cutter architypes or fill in for certain tropes. At the center of this show is the conflict betweenThe Expanse is one of those rare instances of a show that does sci-fi well while also allow its characters to feel real people and not cookie cutter architypes or fill in for certain tropes. At the center of this show is the conflict between its various factions. There is Earth which is and Old dying world which relies on the other factions for resources but tends to overstep its boundaries when it comes to the rights of the other factions, Mars, the militaristic police state where all citizens work towards the goal of terraforming the planet so that they can have a future and The Belt, the young upstart collective people who live entire lives in space and subject to the military powers of both the "Inners" and exploited as a result of this. This three way struggle is what sets up most of conflict in the story along side a strange alien particle with weird properties which is as majestic as it dangerous. The story spans multiple season and follows the struggles of various characters and their struggles as conflict and war over the system and the Alien particle begin to drive wedges between the different human faction. However, at no point does this feel like sci-fi dribble or played out. While many of the shows struggles are large scale in nature, there is always a human element at the core of each one. Everything that plays out in the show always feels tether to choices that individuals make and subsequent choice always have a strong and evolving cause and effect feeling to them. This leads to a much more grounded and personal experience highlighted by moments of sci-fi intrigue and action. One of my only complaints about the is where where Amazon is choosing to leave off with it, as the book series which the show is based on continues on wards into far more interesting territory and concept then the final season of the show presents. This is a must watch or any who loves Sci-fi as a genre or character drama's in general.… Expand

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a sci-fi series with such depth. The Expanse main storyline takes us through timeless subjects like resentment, prejudice, greed, anger and love. Show how nobody is necessarily better than the other, everyoneI don’t think I’ve ever watched a sci-fi series with such depth. The Expanse main storyline takes us through timeless subjects like resentment, prejudice, greed, anger and love. Show how nobody is necessarily better than the other, everyone commit atrocities in the name of something they believe be a ''just cause.'' - The first season starts a little slowly, giving time to understand who the characters are, the factions, the current situation and the way things work in the midst of a political intrigue surrounded by secrets.

The universe itself shows up as a ''character'' and follows the same laws of physics seen in our universe. Thanks to that, the Spaceships are created based on these laws... like design, weapons, acceleration system, artificial gravity and lots more! That enhance the storytelling and creates several possibilities that I had never imagined. Please do watch it!

- The season two focuses more on a cold war between two superpowers (Earth and Mars), at the same time our main characters start to delve into that sordid secrets surrounding this conflict. These secrets prove to be something something never imagined, something beyond this world.

- In season three, characters from both sides of the conflict come together to prevent a full-scale war from spreading across the solar system. Unlike previous season's this one has lots of action, spaceships battles, suspense, thrills and even more politics.

But it does not stop there, the second half of the season an event in particular (The Ring) takes the story to a new path and has lot of effect on different characters lives. New habitable worlds have been discovered and this creates a new gold rush. This season is one of the best I've watched. - Season four show us survival of people on a unknown planet, we also get more knowledge about the protomolecule and it's builders. Humanity learned nothing from past conflicts. New habitable worlds were discovered giving the opportunity for a fresh start, but certain groups think they have ownership rights to things that don't belong to anyone. This makes the colonization process a disaster.

There is also a subplot in the solar system. Showed us how Mars fell into decay and corruption took all over. On the other hand on earth we have general elections in the midst of a crisis. This season was one of most satisfying I've seen. - Season 5 is outstanding. Shows how the oppressed have become the oppressors and the breakdown of society on Earth. At the same time has taken a strong turn towards wrapping the personal stories of the main characters into the action. Enjoyed every episode.… Expand

One of the best TV adaptations from a book series I have seen. Great acting as well as special effects. The story though altered does not take take away form the heart of the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Seasons 1-3: Amazing storytelling and plot. Definitely watch these.

Season 4: Interesting plot but not as cool as the previous seasons. It felt drawn out in the middle.

Seasons 5-6: Just ignore these. You will feel disappointed/annoyed in the end. Instead, I'll tell you a better story: everyone goes through the ring and finds new planets to live on; they all live happily ever after.… Expand

Being a huge Babylon 5 fan, I was dismissive of the expanse season 1. Was hard to get into it. Tried again after realizing was science was spot on (except sounds in space). I think its my favorite show over all. All aspects (eg. acting, sets, action, message) are balanced. Everything in the compelling plot gets paid off. The Expanse is a science-fiction series that truly deserves all the praise it receives. The story is exceptionally well-written, coherent, and scientifically realistic, transporting us to a captivating and fascinating universe. The story is exceptionally well-written, coherent, and scientifically realistic, transporting us to a captivating and fascinating universe. The creators have clearly taken special care to introduce scientific concepts through their science-fiction, and the result is nothing short of spectacular.

What's truly remarkable about The Expanse is the universe it creates. It's both complex and cohesive, based on human history and with an incredibly rich geopolitical context. There's corruption, oversized egos, patriotism, class struggle, selfishness, political extremists, and so much more. All of this is expertly crafted with meticulous attention to detail, making the entire experience even more immersive.

In addition to all of this, the 3D renderings in The Expanse are absolutely stunning. The sets and special effects are of exceptional quality, plunging us into a universe that feels real and tangible. You can literally feel the dust of the planets and the flashes of space combat.

In summary, The Expanse is a science-fiction series that has everything going for it. The story is excellent, the characters are complex and fascinating, the universe is incredibly well-crafted, and the 3D renderings are breathtaking. Surprisingly excellent. Give it a chance. As good or better than Altered Carbon & Stranger Things. Probably more of a guy show. Yes, I went there. Not a "woke" in your face show. Just great Science Fiction.

Prior to watching The Expanse, I had seen Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Universe, Farscape, Red Dwarf, Caprica. I now count The Expanse as top shelf and one of the greats. Although the critics rated Star Trek: Strange New Worlds an inconceivably high score of 80!… Expand

Pretty much the best sci-fi history i watched, it's so much subestimated that it hurts me, everything in this show is perfect, if u like the genre u need to watch this.
